California man who survived 20 days in snowy wilderness says it was walk or die

A Solo Hunter's Harsh Realization: In California Wilderness, 'You Either Try to Walk Out or You're Going to Sit Here and Die'

In a breathtaking display of resilience and faith, Ron Dailey, a hunter from Selma, California, spent 20 days lost in the Sierra National Forest after his solo hunting trip turned disastrous. The harrowing ordeal left him with a haunting realization: that survival depended on making one crucial choice – to walk or perish.

Dailey's journey began when he became stranded after losing his bearings and ending up at an elevation of over 10,000 feet, where his truck broke down. With limited food and water, and as a intense snowstorm hit the area, Dailey was left with no choice but to take shelter in his truck. He recalled those moments of doubt, saying "Oh man – I'm in trouble," when it dawned on him that he had two options: try to find his way out or succumb to the harsh environment.

As he trudged through the snow-covered wilderness, Dailey faced numerous challenges, including losing his phone and falling several times. The thin air at such a high altitude also took its toll, forcing him to sit down every 20-100 yards. Despite these hurdles, Dailey credited his faith with sustaining him through those dark moments.

It was only when he realized that survival depended on making a choice between walking or dying that Dailey found the strength to keep going. "You either try to walk out or you're going to sit here and die," he later said. A group of fellow hunters, who happened to be on the same trail as him, eventually came across Dailey around 12 miles into his journey. They took him to safety, notifying authorities that they had found the missing man.

Dailey's truck was discovered with the rear window broken out by a search party the next day. The fact that he survived for so long in the pickup truck has left many in awe, including those who were searching for him. In a statement confirming his rescue, the local sheriff's office declined to release further details until it interviewed Dailey.

In a poignant statement recorded while he was in the hospital and shared with KFSN, Dailey described the walk that led to his rescue as "the toughest...in my life." He expressed his gratitude to God for helping him survive what could have been a fatal ordeal. Dailey's harrowing experience serves as a testament to the human spirit's capacity for resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

man this guy is like super lucky to be alive after 20 days stuck in the wilderness with no food or water 🤯 i mean we all know that survival depends on making a choice between walking or dying, but come on! it's not like he was out there just chillin' and enjoying nature 🌲🏞️ dailey's story is literally a testament to human resilience and determination in the face of adversity 💪 but seriously though, can you imagine being stuck up at 10k feet with no phone signal and just having to trudge through the snow for miles? it's crazy how he found the strength to keep going despite all those obstacles 😓

I mean, can you even imagine being lost in the woods with no phone and no food? I'd go crazy after like 2 days without a hot shower or a decent meal 🤯. But I guess that's what makes Ron Dailey's story so inspiring - he just kept pushing forward, even when it seemed like all hope was lost. It's crazy to think about how one little choice (like walking or sitting down) can make such a huge difference in survival. And yeah, his faith definitely played a big role in keeping him going - I'm not gonna lie, I've got some respect for that 🙏. Anyway, it just goes to show that even when things seem impossible, we've got the strength and resilience inside us to get through them 💪.

this guy's situation is crazy 🤯, 20 days stuck in the snow with no phone? that's mental 😱 but i guess having faith helps or something ✝️ i don't know if i could've handled it like he did...i think most people would crack under the pressure. Dailey's right though, survival comes down to making a choice - walk or die 💀, and that's not an easy one. i'm just glad he made it out alive with some decent folks helping him along the way 🙏

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Ron Dailey's story 🤯. 20 days stuck in that snow-covered wilderness, just him and his thoughts... it's like he was given a chance to re-evaluate his priorities. The fact that survival depended on making that one choice – walk or die – is pretty mind-blowing. It makes me think about how we often take things for granted, like having a phone or being able to call for help when needed.

I'm also curious about the mental aspect of this ordeal. Dailey credits his faith with sustaining him, but I wonder if there were other factors at play. Was it just the physical exhaustion that made him realize he had to keep moving? It's a sobering reminder that even in our most desperate moments, we have the capacity for resilience and hope.

It's also interesting to think about the role of luck in Dailey's story. Getting found by those fellow hunters at 12 miles into his journey – it could've gone either way. Either way, he made it out alive 🙏. It's a testament to the human spirit, but also a reminder that we're never truly prepared for the unexpected.

🤯 I just can't believe this guy was stuck in that truck for 20 days with no food or water 🍔💧. It's crazy to think he could have given up and died from exhaustion or hypothermia ❄️. But at the same time, his faith helped him through those super tough moments 💆‍♂️. I feel like we can all learn from his story about making choices when things get really rough 🤔. Like, do you try to keep moving forward even when it feels impossible or do you just sit down and accept that? For Ron Dailey, the choice was clear - he had to keep walking 🚶‍♂️. And I think we can all relate to feeling like he's "sitting here and dying" sometimes 😩. But with a bit of courage and determination, we can overcome even the toughest challenges 💪!

man this guy dailey is literally insane how he survived 20 days lost in the wilderness with no food or water i mean yeah his faith played a role but come on thats not the only reason ppl survive in tough situations its all about mental toughness too like hes literally saying to himself "i either try to walk out or im gonna sit here and die" talk about having some serious guts now
