Best of 2025: Artemis II Countdown Demonstration Test - NASA

NASA's Artemis II mission is just days away from launching, and the countdown has begun. On December 20, a team of astronauts led by Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, and Mission Specialist Christina Koch boarded their spacecraft atop NASA's powerful Space Launch System rocket, simulating every step of the launch day timeline.

The crew, accompanied by Bill Owens from the Closeout Crew, traversed through the 275-foot level of the mobile launcher to reach the crew access arm at the Vehicle Assembly Building. The image captured a pivotal moment in this preparation process shows the astronauts poised for liftoff, ready to embark on a historic mission that will explore the Moon's surface for scientific breakthroughs and set the stage for future Mars-bound voyages.

As part of NASA's ambitious Artemis campaign, the lunar expedition aims to expand humanity's presence beyond Earth's orbit. The program not only seeks to unlock the secrets of our closest celestial neighbor but also promises to pave the way for a new era in space exploration.
