At least 32 killed as crane collapses on train in Thailand

Tragedy Strikes Thailand as Crane Collapses onto Passenger Train, Killing at Least 32

A devastating accident has occurred in Nakhon Ratchasima province, north-east of Bangkok, where a crane collapsed onto a passenger train, derailing it and resulting in the deaths of at least 32 people. The incident, which is being investigated by authorities, also left scores injured.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as one of utter chaos, with the broken crane structure resting on giant concrete pillars and smoke billowing from the wreckage below. Rescuers worked tirelessly to extract passengers from the tilted carriages, where many were trapped or injured.

According to local resident Mitr Intrpanya, who witnessed the accident firsthand, the crane appeared to strike the middle of the second carriage with such force that it sliced through the metal and severed three carriages in half. The impact was described as a loud noise followed by two explosions, sending shockwaves throughout the area.

The health ministry has confirmed that 32 people have died, while 64 others are receiving treatment for their injuries. Seven of those injured are reported to be in serious condition.

At the construction site where the accident occurred, which is part of a $5.4 billion project backed by Beijing to build a high-speed rail network in Thailand, authorities are struggling to determine the cause of the crane collapse. The project aims to connect Bangkok to Kunming in China via Laos by 2028 as part of China's Belt and Road infrastructure initiative.

In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has vowed to hold anyone responsible accountable for the accident. He stated that incidents like this are "very regular" and called on lawmakers to reconsider blacklisting construction companies that have a history of repeated accidents.

this is so sad ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜ฑ 32 people lost their lives in one minute... how can something like this happen? was it just bad luck or was there something wrong with the crane? ๐Ÿค” it's like they say, "be careful what you wish for" - a $5.4 billion project sounds huge but at what cost? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ and why were there no safety measures in place? i'm sure those 64 people who are injured will be paying this accident for a long time... ๐Ÿ’” is the government really taking responsibility for this? ๐Ÿค

this is so horrific cant believe whats happening in Thailand ๐Ÿคฏ i feel bad for all those who lost their lives and their families too its just not right when cranes collapse like this no wonder the project was backed by china but at what cost? $5.4 billion seems like nothing compared to the human lives lost the premier is right tho shouldnt he be doing more than just making empty promises like blacklisting companies we need concrete action now ๐Ÿ™

omg 32 lives lost is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜” my thoughts are with the families of the victims and all those injured ๐Ÿ˜ฉ can't believe such an accident happened at a construction site where people's lives are supposed to be safe what was going on that day? did they follow safety protocols? so many questions... ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’” This is just awful, a total disaster ๐Ÿ˜ฑ! I can imagine the chaos at the scene, with people trapped and injured everywhere ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’‰. How could a crane collapse like this happen? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's not just the 32 lives lost that are heartbreaking, it's also the scores of people who got hurt ๐Ÿค•.

๐Ÿ“Š I think we need to take a closer look at the construction site's safety protocols and make sure they're super strict ๐Ÿ’ฏ. And maybe, just maybe, some blacklisting might be in order ๐Ÿ‘Š? I mean, 7 people in serious condition is no joke ๐Ÿ’”.

The fact that this happened on a $5.4 billion project is just crazy ๐Ÿค‘! You'd think with all that money involved, safety would be top priority ๐Ÿ’ธ. But I guess we'll have to wait and see what the investigation turns up ๐Ÿ”.

๐Ÿค” This is insane! 32 people dead, scores injured... how can a crane just collapse onto a train? ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ And it's part of some super expensive project backed by China... what's the rush? The gov's all like "hold ppl accountable", but they're not giving us any deets on the construction companies involved or what kinda safety measures were in place. Where's the transparency, fam? ๐Ÿ˜’ Need more info before I'm convinced it was just a fluke ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is absolutely devastating... i mean 32 lives lost is just heartbreaking think about all the families affected by this tragedy ๐Ÿค• and now china's belt and road project which aims to connect thailand to china is at the center of it all? so much pressure on the government to figure out what went wrong ๐Ÿ™„ and yeah, holding anyone responsible for their actions is good but you gotta make sure they're held accountable too ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜” 32 lives lost in one tragic accident is just too much... I mean, I'm glad authorities are investigating the cause but it's hard not to think about all those people who were just going about their day and then suddenly caught up in this chaos ๐Ÿšจ. And with a project that huge and expensive, you'd think there would be more safety measures in place ๐Ÿค”... I'm not saying that's entirely the fault of the contractors or government, but it does raise some questions ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. The prime minister's response seems good on paper, but we need to see what actual action gets taken ๐Ÿ’ช. And 7 people in serious condition? That number should be a lot lower... ๐Ÿ˜ž
