An English Song Winterreise review – Roderick Williams masterfully mirrors Schubert's iconic song cycle

omg I just heard Roderick Williams sing and it was soooo good 🤩 I don't know what kind of training he had but his voice is insane 😲 I was listening to the video and I started thinking about how music can evoke emotions so strong... like you know when you hear a song that makes you feel all nostalgic and stuff? 🎵 it's crazy how art can do that

🎶 this english song cycle by Roderick Williams is giving me all the feels 🤩 he's really brought out the emotions in these classic pieces, like he's singing directly to your soul 📸 his approach is super different from Schubert's but it works so well in its own way 💡 i love how he weaves together themes of lost loves and passing time - it adds a new layer of depth to the music 🌟

I'm loving the way Roderick Williams reworks melodies from other composers to create this unique connection to Schubert's Winterreise 🐈💫 Like, have you ever noticed how some of those old songs just make you think of others? It's like he's found these hidden threads that weave the whole thing together 😻 And I'm curious, what do you guys think about how Williams' themes are more focused on lost loves and time passing? Does it change the feel of the whole cycle for you 🤔

idk why ppl are so hyped about this singer, Roderick Williams or whatever...he sounds like every other dude who sings classical songs. his rendition of that English song cycle inspired by Schubert is just a watered down version of the original...I mean, it's not like he's breaking new ground or anything. maybe ppl like how he "refines" the genre or whatever...newsflash: there's already great singers out there who can do the same thing without all the fuss. and don't even get me started on how his lyrics are just a bunch of sappy romantic nonsense 🙄

I'm lovin' this new rendition of the English song cycle! It's like Roderick Williams is tryin' to outdo Schubert himself 🤔, and I gotta say, he's comin' pretty close. The way he's curated the playlist, it's like he's challengin' our perceptions of what a song cycle should be. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good underdog story? Williams is definitely showin' that with his own unique take on the genre.

Now, I know some people might say it's a bit too melancholy, that he's leanin' too hard into the long-lost loves vibe 🌫️. But I think that's what makes it so compelling. It's like he's shakin' things up and makin' us feel all the feels. And have you heard Britten's Midnight on the Great Western? That's some next-level stuff! The way Williams is bringin' out the drama, it's like a mini-political debate in there 🤝.

And let's not forget about Christopher Glynn's piano playin', that's like the ultimate coalition builder 🤜🤛. They're workin' together like a well-oiled machine, creatin' somethin' truly special. It's like they're sayin', "Hey, we might have different ideologies, but when it comes to music, let's put our differences aside and just make some beautiful noise." 🎶
