Americans increasingly concerned about government shutdown, more blame Republicans and Trump than Democrats: Poll

Americans are growing increasingly concerned about the ongoing federal government shutdown, with a significant majority expressing disapproval of how President Donald Trump is handling the situation. The latest ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll reveals that nearly three-quarters of Americans say they are concerned about the shutdown, up from two-thirds at the start of the crisis.

The public's perception of responsibility for the shutdown has also shifted, with more people blaming Trump and Republicans than Democrats. A whopping 45% of respondents hold both parties responsible, while only 33% blame congressional Democrats. Independents are more likely to point fingers at Trump and Republicans (46%), whereas Democrats themselves believe they bear some culpability (81%).

The survey highlights stark partisan divisions in opinions about the shutdown and Trump's management style. A larger proportion of women than men express concern over the situation, while nearly nine in 10 Democrats, seven in 10 independents, and six in 10 Republicans agree that they are concerned.

As for Trump's handling of the government, a growing majority disapproves of his performance (63%), up from 57% in April and 54% in February. A mere 36% approve of his management style.

When asked why they think either party is responsible for the shutdown, respondents provided various reasons. Many attribute the problem to Trump's refusal to negotiate on healthcare costs, citing concerns that he prioritizes his own interests over those of Americans. Some also point out that Republicans control Congress and refuse to work with Democrats in good faith.

I'm super frustrated about this government shutdown 🀯... it's like they're not even trying to find a solution! I mean, 63% disapprove of Trump's handling? That's crazy talk! He's supposed to be the leader of the country, right? πŸ™„ As for me, I just think both parties are at fault. It's like they're playing politics instead of working together to fix things. And don't even get me started on healthcare costs... it's like they're not even considering how it affects regular people like us πŸ’Έ.

I've been following this whole thing, and honestly, it's getting old. Can't we just find a way to work together? 🀝 I've seen so many memes about this, but seriously, it's time for some grown-ups in Washington to step up and do their job. Anyone else as fed up with all this back-and-forth? 😩

omg, i'm like really hoping this shutdown thing doesn't get out of hand 🀞... but at the same time, i think it's kinda cool how people are finally speaking up and demanding more accountability from their leaders πŸ—£οΈ. it's like, we've been hearing so much about politics for years now, and it's about time we start seeing some real change πŸ’ͺ. plus, who wouldn't want to see the parties actually work together and find common ground 🀝? maybe this is just what we need - a wake-up call that makes people realize that there's more to life than just partisan bickering πŸ˜‚. fingers crossed for a peaceful resolution soon! πŸ‘

Ugh, I'm so tired of these polls! 🀯 Can't we just have a decent discussion without the whole "who's responsible" thing being framed as a party issue? It feels like everyone's too quick to point fingers at either Trump or the Democrats... Meanwhile, what about the actual people affected by this shutdown? Like, I'm sure some poor dude working for NASA is struggling to get paid... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Anyway, it's interesting to see that most Americans are concerned about the shutdown - but can we please focus on finding a solution instead of just bashing each other online? πŸ’‘

I'm really worried about this government shutdown πŸ€•. It seems like nobody trusts Trump or the Republicans to get things done. I mean, it's not just one party or the other, it's a whole mess! 45% of people think both parties are equally responsible? That's crazy talk! πŸ˜‚ To me, it's pretty clear that Republicans in Congress are the ones making this shutdown happen, and they're being super stubborn about working with Democrats.

And honestly, I don't get why Trump can't just negotiate on healthcare costs. It seems like a no-brainer to me, but I guess when you're used to getting what you want, it's hard to compromise πŸ˜’. As for the numbers, 63% disapproving of his handling? That's a lot! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ What does that say about Trump's leadership skills?

I think it's really concerning to see how much people are divided on this shutdown 🀯. It's like, we're all supposed to be one team, you know? But now, it feels like there's just a huge rift between Trump and Congress, and it's hard to see a way out of it 😩. I'm worried that because everyone is so angry and frustrated, we might start to lose sight of what's really important – taking care of each other 🀝.

I mean, 63% disapproving of Trump's handling? That's crazy high 🀯! And the fact that people are pointing fingers at both parties, but mostly blaming Trump... it just feels like a big mess 😳. We need to find a way to work together and stop playing politics with our lives πŸ’”. It's time for some serious compromise and cooperation 🀝. Can't we all just try to agree on something for once? πŸ™„

omg, its so crazy how divided America is rn 🀯 I'm worried about the toll this shutdown is taking on ppl's mental health... all this uncertainty can be super stressful πŸ’” and it's no wonder more women are expressing concern than men - self-care is key, you know? πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ prioritizing our well-being should b at the forefront of our conversations. as for trump's handling, idk about him just saying he's not gonna negotiate on healthcare... seems like a pretty selfish stance πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ what do u think tho? πŸ’¬

I feel so bad for the American ppl rn πŸ€•πŸ˜© Trump's handling is super unpopular & it's not hard to see why! 63% disapprove, yikes! 😲 I think both parties are being super unfair to each other & the ppl should come together instead of pointing fingers. It's just so stressful for everyone involved πŸ€―πŸ’” Women, especially, are showing more concern than men which is totally understandable - healthcare is such a big deal for them πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ

" Politics is too serious a business to be entrusted to the unwary." πŸ€”

I think most people just want politicians to get along & do what's best for everyone, not just their own party or interests. It seems like the public's getting really tired of all this partisan bickering & gridlock πŸ˜’. If only we could find a way to put country over party...

Shutdown drama 🀯: Trump's approval ratings are tanking fast ⬇️ 63% disapprove? Guess all those tweeting skills ain't gonna cut it πŸ’”. People need healthcare, not drama 😩.

OMG, I'm so done with these gov't shutdowns πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ! It's like they're playing a big game of chicken, but we're the ones who get stuck in the middle 😩. I mean, 63% disapproving of Trump's handling? That's like, a LOT of people 🀯. And don't even get me started on how partisan it all gets - it's like, can't we just try to find some common ground and work together? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I'm team "let's get this done already" πŸ’ͺ! Have you guys tried the Pomodoro Technique for staying focused during those long shutdown-induced work days? It's a total game-changer ⏰!

lol 1st off, cant believe whats goin on w/ this gov shutdown 🀯 Trump's doin a major bad job if u ask me. I mean, 63% of ppl disapprove of him? thats crazy!!! The fact that more ppl blame Republicans and Trump than Democrats is wild. Im all for negotiation and compromise, not just Trump makin deals for himself πŸ’Έ And yeah, women r way more concerned about this shutdown than men. Like, what's goin on there? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ On a side note, 81% of Democrats think they're responsible too? Um, no πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ that can't be right...

πŸ€” I'm like totally stoked about this whole government shutdown thing! I mean, who needs functioning government services anyway? It's just a chance for people to get a little exercise by waiting in line at the DMV or dealing with delayed packages online πŸ“¦πŸ˜‚. Plus, all that extra time spent on social media is basically free entertainment 😊. And let's be real, Trump's handling of the shutdown has been super effective – I mean, who else can make an entire nation talk about their feelings and stuff? It's like he's a modern-day therapist, except instead of charging $200 an hour, he's just... well, being himself πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ.

Ugh, this shutdown thingy is getting soooo frustrating 🀯😩 Trump's handling is literally a mess. Like seriously, 63% disapprove of his performance? That's crazy! I mean I get it, he's got his own style and all but come on man... Women are more worried about the situation than men? Not surprised tbh. And what's up with people blaming both parties for this mess? Can't they just work together already? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ I read an interesting article on Vox about why the government shutdown is so hard to break through - worth a read: https://www.vox.com/policy-explained/2023/10/12/23944563/federal-budget-shutdown-trump-technology

Ugh πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, can't believe we're stuck dealing with this crazy shutdown situation again! I mean, who doesn't want their government to be working smoothly? The numbers are pretty eye-opening – nearly three-quarters of Americans are concerned, and the public's perception is that Trump and Republicans are more responsible than Democrats. That 45% blaming both parties is wild 🀯. I'm not surprised, though – have you seen how dysfunctional Congress can get? Anyway, it's not like this is a new issue, but still, it's disheartening to see our leaders struggling so much... sigh πŸ˜’

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, can you believe this? The whole country is freaking out because Trump won't negotiate on healthcare costs... like, isn't that kinda basic? πŸ™„ And what's up with the Republicans not working with anyone? It feels like a total lack of leadership. 63% disapproving of his management style? That's just crazy talk! πŸ˜‚ I think the real problem is that both parties are too caught up in their own egos to actually work together. 🀝

I'm really surprised by how polarized people are about this shutdown πŸ€”. It seems like the more information we get, the more entrenched everyone becomes in their opinions - whether it's Trump or the party affiliation of the respondents. I think it's interesting that women are more concerned than men, and Democrats feel a bit guilty for what they perceive as Republican intransigence πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

The reason behind these divisions is complex, but I agree with many respondents who attribute the shutdown to Trump's insistence on sticking to his guns, especially when it comes to healthcare costs πŸ’Έ. Meanwhile, Republicans get a bad rap for not collaborating with Democrats, and Independents seem to be pointing fingers in all directions πŸ”.

It's fascinating to see how partisan loyalties can influence opinions so strongly - sometimes I wonder if people are more concerned about being seen as "right" or "left" than actually understanding the nuances of an issue πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole government shutdown thing πŸ˜•. I mean, it's not like we don't have enough on our plates already - dealing with rising costs of living, traffic jams, and whatnot. Do we really need the government holding everything hostage? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

From what I've seen, Trump's handling is definitely a major point of contention for many Americans. I get it, he's got a strong personality, but some folks just can't seem to work with him or each other 🀝. It's like, we're all in this together, right? 🌟

I think what really gets my goat (no pun intended 😜) is how partisan the whole thing has become. I mean, I've got friends who are Democrats and Republicans, and they can't even agree on what to have for dinner sometimes βš”οΈ. It's like, let's try to find some common ground here 🀝.

Anyway, it's clear that Americans are fed up with the whole thing, and rightly so πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. We deserve better leadership that actually listens to us and works towards our best interests πŸ‘.

omg what is going on with trump?? like seriously how can one person cause so much drama 🀯😱 the numbers are crazy 63% disapprove of him already and it's just gonna keep getting worse i feel bad for america, they deserve better than this πŸ˜”

ugh, this shutdown thing is just gonna drag on forever πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ... I mean, what's the point of even having a president if they can't get anything done? Trump's handling of it is straight-up terrible πŸ’”, and now people are starting to blame Republicans too, which is just great, because who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned bipartisan mess 🀯. And don't even get me started on the fact that women are more worried about this than men... like, what's up with that? Is it because we're just more emotionally invested in politics or something? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ anyway, I guess this is just another example of how our government can't even function properly 😩.
