All the Sports You Won’t See at the 2026 Winter Olympics

At the 2026 Winter Olympics, several sports are expected to make their absence felt. Among them is bandy, a sport that combines elements of field hockey and soccer. The game involves using a curved stick to move a ball around on an ice rink, with goalies able to defend only by hand. This unique combination has historically been part of the Winter Olympics lineup.

Another sport set to be omitted from the 2026 Games is ski ballet. This event, which emerged in the mid-20th century, involves skiers performing choreographed jumps and steps while being accompanied by music. With its artistic flair and competitive edge, it can still be sensed in modern freestyle events like slopestyle.

For those who have ever fantasized about strapping on skis and getting pulled across the snow by a galloping horse, equestrian skijoring might seem like an appealing activity. However, this sport only made one appearance at the Olympics during the 1928 Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and no one took home any medals.

Another event that fell by the wayside is sled dog racing. This sport, which involved a team of six dogs pulling a sled with an athlete on board, emerged as a demonstration event at the Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York, in 1932. With some teams reaching speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour, it was certainly an exhilarating experience.

The military patrol also did not make the cut for the 2026 Olympics. This sport, which debuted at the 1924 Games in Chamonix, France, involved rifle shooting with cross-country skiing. Unlike biathlon, participants had to wear a military uniform as part of a four-person team called a patrol. Switzerland took home gold in 1924 but was only a demonstration event during the subsequent Winter Olympics until its eventual disappearance from the program.

These sports may no longer be part of the Winter Games lineup, but they all left an indelible mark on the history and evolution of winter sports.

I'm like super bummed that bandy isn't gonna make it to the 2026 Olympics 🤔🏒️. I mean, who doesn't love a good game of hockey and soccer combined? It's all about strategy and skill on ice, you know? And can we talk about how cool the goalies must be, just defending by hand like that? 💪

But you know what's even cooler? The history behind these sports! Like, sled dog racing was soooo fast - 30 km/h is crazy! 🐕💨 And equestrian skijoring sounds like an absolute rush. I can see why it didn't quite catch on, but still...

And I gotta say, the Olympics are always changing and evolving, which is kinda cool, right? It's all about what's new and fresh for us to try out and get stoked about 🎉💥

I'm reading this thread like it's from another planet lol what happened to these sports btw i feel sad that equestrian skijoring is not back since it sounds sooo cool imagine getting pulled across the snow by a horse 🐴🎿 I've never even tried ski ballet but it looks super artistic and fun would be awesome to see more events like slopestyle at the Olympics

I'm sad to see bandy & ski ballet get dropped from the 2026 Olympics 🤕. I mean, who doesn't love a good game of stickball on ice or watching skiers bust out some sick choreo moves on the slopes? But at the same time, I can see why they might be considered a bit niche for modern audiences. I do wish equestrian skijoring would make a comeback though - that sounds like an absolute blast! 🐎🏂

Sled dog racing was so cool & it's sad to think it won't be around anymore. Those dogs are the real MVPs 🐕💪. And as for military patrol, I'm not sure why they're being dropped from the program entirely - maybe it could be reworked into a biathlon discipline or something? Idk, just seems like an interesting compromise between shooting & skiing.

On the bright side, it's awesome that these sports are getting the recognition they deserve, even if they won't be part of the main event. They've all contributed to the rich history of winter sports & I'm sure we'll see some new, innovative events emerge to take their place 🎉💥

🤔 I'm kinda bummed that bandy isn't making a return to the 2026 Olympics. It's such a unique sport that requires skill and strategy, and it would've been dope to see more athletes competing in it. Plus, who doesn't love watching people smash into each other on ice? 😂 As for ski ballet, I get why they decided to drop it - it's an art form, but not everyone's cup of tea, you know? Equestrian skijoring is straight up weird tho... like, why would anyone want to be pulled behind a horse when you could just ski or ride normally? 🐎💨 Sled dog racing was pretty cool though, I can imagine how intense that must've been. And military patrol... yeah, it's always sad when something gets dropped from the Olympics. Still, these sports will live on in history, and who knows, maybe they'll make a comeback at some point. 🤞

OMG, I'M LIKE TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR THAT BANDY IS GETTING THE AXE FROM THE 2026 WINTER OLYMPICS 🤔!!! IT'S SUCH A COOL SPORT AND I LOVED WATCHING THE MATCHES AT THE OLD GAMES! 🏒😢 BUT, ON THE OTHER HAND, SKEJIROING SOUNDS CRAZY FUN 😂🐎 AND I CAN SEE HOW IT WOULD BE SO EXCITING TO SKI DOWN A HILL WHILE SOMEONE IS PULLING YOU ALONG BY A HORSE! 🐴💨

🤔 The Olympics are always evolving and it's cool to see what makes the cut 🎉. I'm a bit sad that bandy won't be back - I love the sound of that curved stick on ice 🏒️. And equestrian skijoring is just too fun 😂, who wouldn't want to go for a galloping horse ride on skis?! 🐴❄️

But you know what's still cool? The sports that didn't make it 🤷‍♂️. Sled dog racing was so intense - imagine being pulled by six dogs at 30 km/h 💨! And the military patrol event sounds like a real challenge 🔫🏔️.

It's all about what people enjoy and what's exciting to watch, right? So even if these sports are gone, they're still an awesome part of winter sports history 📚. Can't wait for 2026 and what new events we'll see! 🎉👀

I'm not sure about this, but I kinda miss bandy 🤔. It's so unique and fast-paced. I've seen some vids online and it looks like a mix of hockey and soccer that you can't quite put your finger on. Ski ballet is cool too, I mean who wouldn't want to ski and dance at the same time? 😂 But equestrian skijoring sounds super sketchy 🤪. Imagine being pulled across the snow by a horse while trying to stay balanced on skis...not sure that'd be safe for anyone involved.

As for sled dog racing, I can see why it's not coming back 🙅‍♂️. It does look like a lot of fun, but those dogs are huge and powerful 🐕. The military patrol seems weird too, rifle shooting while skiing? That's just not something you'd expect to see at the Olympics 😬.

Still, it's cool that these sports made an impact on winter sports history ⚡️. We can always find new ways to innovate and make things more exciting 🎯.

omg I'm so sad that ski ballet is gone 🌟 like who doesn't love a good horse-pulled skier combo 😂 anyway, it's not like we've been missing out on any Olympic medals in equestrian skijoring either 🤣 at least sled dog racing was kinda cool for its time, I guess 🐕💨 and military patrol was basically just an excuse to wear a fancy uniform 👖 can't say I'm heartbroken about bandy being cut though, it's not like anyone actually plays the sport anymore 😴

Wow 😂, can you believe some of these old-school sports are being cut? I mean, sled dog racing was like something out of a Wild West movie 🤠🐕! And equestrian skijoring sounds like so much fun 🎉, it's crazy they didn't even get a medal 💔. Ski ballet might not be an Olympic sport anymore but I can see how those freestyle events still have some of its flair ✨. Bandy's unique combination is cool but I guess the field hockey and soccer crowd was stronger 🏀🎾. The military patrol event seems kinda intense with all that rifle shooting 🤯! Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what new sports are added in 2026 📆.

I'm not sure I'm gonna miss sled dog racing that much 🐕😐. I mean, it's basically just a fancy way to get pulled down a hill while some dogs do all the work. And what's with equestrian skijoring? Who thought it was a good idea to put horses on skis and pull people around like they're on a horse-drawn carriage ride? 🐴😂 It sounds super sketchy.

And ski ballet? Come on, that just sounds like someone took all the awkward moments from "Swan Lake" and set them on ice. I don't know how they managed to make it sound appealing in the first place... 🤣

I do think some of these events had a certain charm to them, but not enough to justify bringing them back. The Olympics are already crazy enough with all the overhyped sports like skiing and snowboarding. Less is often more, right? 👎

The Winter Olympics are always a bit of a mixed bag for me 🤔. On one hand, I'm loving that bandy is making its return – it's like a sporty mashup of hockey and soccer that sounds super fun to watch! 🏒️ But, on the other hand, I'm kinda bummed that ski ballet and sled dog racing are out. I mean, who wouldn't want to see some artistic skiers or dogs pulling athletes across the snow? 😊 It's always bittersweet when old sports get cut from the lineup – it's like saying goodbye to a friend. But at the same time, it's cool that these sports are still being represented in other forms, like modern freestyle events.

It's also kinda interesting how some of these sports were only around for so long before getting dropped. Like, sled dog racing was this huge deal back in the 30s, but then it just vanished – what happened? 🐕 I guess that's just the way the games go sometimes.

I'm not crying, you're just not used to my jokes! But seriously, what's up with these sports? Bandy, ski ballet, equestrian skijoring... sounds like a wild party 🤪 I mean, who wouldn't want to strap on skis and get pulled by a horse? That's like the ultimate winter thrill ride 🎠 And sled dog racing was like being part of a canine Uber service 🐶. The military patrol is like, "Hey, we're cool with rifle shooting... but not really" 😜. These sports may be out, but they're still awesome in their own ways. I'm just glad the Olympics can get back to normal now... or do they? 😉

I don’t usually comment but... I kinda feel sad to see bandy, ski ballet, equestrian skijoring, sled dog racing, and military patrol not making it to the 2026 Olympics 🏒❄️. They all sound so unique and fun! Bandy with its curved stick and hand-defense is like a hockey-meets-soccer mashup, while ski ballet's choreographed jumps are like freestyle skiing meets dance 💃🏻. Equestrian skijoring might be weird but it's adventurous 🐴, sled dog racing was like skiing on wheels 😆, and military patrol combined rifle shooting with skiing... what a thrill! 🎯💨

These sports may not have medals or Olympic recognition, but they're still Winter Olympics history 📚. They show how winter sports can be innovative and experimental. It's always cool to see new ideas and events emerge, even if they don't make it to the final lineup 🤔.

I guess what I'm saying is... don't count them out just yet 😊! Who knows? Maybe future Winter Olympics will bring back some of these retro sports in a modified form or as demonstration events. That would be awesome 🎉!

the thing is... i think it's kinda sad that these unique sports like bandy, ski ballet, equestrian skijoring, sled dog racing, and military patrol are being dropped from the Olympics. don't get me wrong, they might not be as widely popular or competitive as other winter sports, but they all have their own charm and history 🤔🏂

i mean, who doesn't love the idea of skiing while being pulled by a horse? 🐴😂 or watching athletes perform choreographed jumps on ice to music? it's definitely more exciting than just sitting around waiting for downhill skiing events. but i guess that's just not what the Olympics are about anymore. it's all about speed, power, and athleticism these days 💪🏼

anyway, i think it's great that they're preserving their history and legacy even if they're not part of the main Olympic lineup. who knows, maybe one day they'll make a comeback 🤞 or inspire new sports to emerge 🎯

I'm kinda bummed to hear that bandy and ski ballet are outta the 2026 Olympics 🤔. I mean, who doesn't love a good game of hockey on ice? And ski ballet sounds like it would've been so much fun to watch - all those skiers flying around, music playing in the background... it's like something straight outta a Disney movie ❄️.

And equestrian skijoring? That just sounds like an awesome way to get some exercise while also having a horse gallop around you 🐴. It's crazy that it only made one Olympic appearance back in '28 though - can you imagine what it would've been like if they'd stuck with it?

Sled dog racing is pretty cool too, I think. Those dogs must've been so fast! 🐕 And the military patrol? That just sounds like a tough sport... all that rifle shooting and skiing, huh? Maybe it's for the best that it didn't make the cut this time around.

It's still gonna be awesome to watch the 2026 Olympics, though. New sports always bring new excitement! 🎉

I'm defo gonna miss those weird sports 🤔🏂. Bandy was like the ultimate ice rink party – who wouldn't wanna use a curved stick to score goals? 😂 And equestrian skijoring... I mean, can you even imagine being pulled by a galloping horse on skis? 🐎😱 That's some next level stuff right there! As for sled dog racing and military patrol, they might not have been medal winners, but man, that was some serious athleticism going on 💪🏽. It's always sad to see sports get cut from the Olympics, but at least we can look back and appreciate the weirdness that made them unique 🤷‍♂️.

I'm kinda sad to see bandy go, I've played a few pickup games with friends and it's actually really fun! The combination of hockey and soccer is unique and I love how skillful you need to be to control that ball on ice 🏒😅. As for ski ballet, I remember watching it in old VHS tapes of the Olympics and it was so elegant and beautiful 💃🏻. Equestrian skijoring sounds crazy though, like a wild rollercoaster ride 🎠! Sled dog racing is so cool too, imagine pulling that sled at 30km/h! 😅

🤔🏃‍♂️ so i feel kinda sad that some cool sports r getting cut from the olympics 🌪️ like sled dog racing is such a unique & thrilling event! imagine being pulled by 6 dogs on skis at high speed 😆 it's definitely not something u see every day. and ski ballet was pretty awesome too, i mean who doesn't love a good freestyle skiing competition with music? 🎵 but i guess the olympics gotta stick to what's gonna be popular & easy to organize 📝

here's a simple diagram of how sled dog racing worked:
```
+---------------+
| Sled Dog |
| Team |
anyway, i guess it's all part of the evolution of sports 🏔️👍
I'm so bummed to hear that bandy isn't making a comeback 🤕. I mean, it's already a pretty niche sport, but still, can't we get some more variety in the Olympics? I remember watching this one guy play on TV years ago and he was just so fast with his curved stick 🏒️... but I guess times change and new sports come along 😊.
I did kinda feel bad for equestrian skijoring though 🐴. I mean, who wouldn't want to be pulled across the snow by a horse while wearing skis? Sounds like an epic adrenaline rush 💥! But yeah, it's not exactly a crowd-pleaser, and I can see why they dropped it from the Olympics.
And sled dog racing was so cool too 🐺... I love watching those dogs pull the sleds at high speeds. It's like they're flying across the ice! But again, safety concerns and all that, maybe it was just a phase 😊.
It's always sad to see sports get dropped from the Olympics, but you have to respect the process 🤝. At least we can look back on these events and remember how exciting they must've been for those who competed in them 💭.
