Aliro arrives – the smart lock standard is set to launch this year

"Smart Lock Standard Aliro Set to Launch This Year, Bringing Unified Unlocking Across Platforms"

In a move that could revolutionize the smart home industry, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) is finally launching its long-awaited smart lock standard, Aliro. The specification, which standardizes NFC-based tap-to-unlock and UWB hands-free unlocking for smart locks, will arrive early this year.

Developed by Apple, Google, and Samsung, along with lock makers and chip makers such as Allegion, Assa Abloy, Qualcomm, and NXP, Aliro is an open standard that provides a standardized way for smart locks to communicate with smartphones and watches, regardless of manufacturer or platform. This means that users on different devices can unlock their smart locks simultaneously.

The key benefits of Aliro include direct, secure communication between a phone or wearable and the lock, without the need for cloud-based services or apps. Asymmetric encryption ensures that credentials are stored securely on the user's device, allowing the lock to function independently of internet connectivity.

With Aliro, users can enjoy hands-free unlocking using UWB technology, as well as tap-to-unlock functionality via NFC. Locks must have compatible radios and antennas to support these protocols, but existing models may not be upgradeable to Aliro due to the need for new hardware.

Major lock manufacturers such as Schlage, Kwikset, X-Things/U-Tec, Level, and Nuki have announced their plans to support Aliro, setting the stage for widespread adoption of the standard. As a result, users can expect to see smart locks with Aliro support arriving soon.

The launch of Aliro marks an exciting development in the smart home industry, promising more seamless and secure unlocking experiences across different devices and platforms. With its promise of unified unlocking and direct communication between devices and locks, Aliro is set to revolutionize the way we interact with our homes.

ugh i'm so excited for this 🤩 like how can it get any easier than just tapping your phone on the lock and forgetting about it? 🙄 meanwhile, i've had issues with my nuki lock where it's always asking me to re-authenticate or something annoying like that. this aliro thing seems like a game changer 💡 fingers crossed it'll make smart locks more user friendly

🤔 so yeah i think this Aliro thing is gonna be huge for smart home users... think about it, no more fiddling around with multiple apps on your phone just to unlock your door 📱💡 and no need for cloud services either, that's just a security risk waiting to happen 🔒. also, if existing locks can't be upgraded, that's a bummer... but still, major lock manufacturers are on board, so fingers crossed they'll make it worth our while 💪. one thing that gets me is the hardware requirement... i mean, what's the deal with having compatible radios and antennas? sounds like a pain to upgrade 🤷‍♂️

omg I'm so hyped about this Aliro standard launch 🤩 it's about time we have a unified way to unlock our smart locks across platforms! having to switch between different apps or services just to get my lock to work is such a pain in the neck 🙄 but with this new standard, I can imagine syncing all my devices and getting instant access to my home without any hassle 😌 and I love that it's an open standard so all manufacturers can get on board - more options for us as consumers means more savings 💸

🤷‍♀️ so nice that it's finally happening... I mean, who doesn't want to unlock their door without having to deal with a bunch of different apps and services? 💡 like this is going to change everything (yawn). Can you imagine not having to download some new app just because your lock manufacturer decided to get on the bandwagon? 🤦‍♂️ on the bright side, it's about time we got a standardized way to do smart locks, so I guess that's something... 🔒

🤔 I'm not surprised they're finally launching this standard. I mean, think about it... who benefits from smart locks being standardized? The major lock manufacturers, that's who! They get to sell their existing products and make a quick buck without having to invest in new hardware. And what about the cloud services companies? They were making money off of storing user credentials and now they're going to have to compete with an open standard. This whole thing smells like a setup to me... 🤑

🤩 This is gonna be HUGE for smart lock users! Did u know that according to a recent study, 75% of homeowners want to use their smartphones to unlock their doors? 📊 And now, with Aliro, they'll finally get the seamless experience they're looking for. 💻 The stats are crazy, with over 50 million households expected to adopt smart locks by 2027 🚀🔒

I'm thinking about how this is gonna change the game for people with smart homes... especially those who've had issues with locking systems not working on different devices 🤔. And I'm wondering if it's too late for some existing locks that aren't upgradeable, considering they need new hardware to support Aliro? It's like, imagine having a state-of-the-art lock in your home but still being stuck with an old one because you can't afford or don't want to get a new one... that's frustrating 🤷‍♂️. On the other hand, it's awesome that major manufacturers are already on board with Aliro, so we should start seeing more locks with this tech soon 💻. I'm just curious about how this whole thing is gonna play out and what kind of impact it'll have on the smart home industry 🤔💡

omg I'm so hyped for this!!! having a universal standard like Aliro will make my life SO much easier - no more switching between apps just to unlock my door 🚪📱 can't wait to see all the major lock brands jump on board and make it seamless for us to control our homes in one go 💡 plus, the security aspect sounds rock solid with asymmetric encryption and all that jazz 🔒 fingers crossed existing locks get an update soon so we don't have to shell out $$$ for new ones 🤑

🤯 I'm so stoked about this new smart lock standard, Aliro! It's gonna make my life so much easier, you know? No more fumbling around for my phone or keys when I get home 📲💪. And the fact that it's an open standard means that all manufacturers will be able to support it, which is a huge win for consumers 🎉. I'm curious to see how this is gonna change the game for smart locks and make our homes even more convenient and secure 🔒🔑

Ugh I'm so excited about this! Having a single standard for smart locks would make my life so much easier 🙌. No more constantly switching between different apps on my phone just to unlock my door or check if it's still locked 🔒. And the fact that it's an open standard means anyone can make compatible locks, which is awesome for consumers like me who want choice and flexibility 🎉. I'm also a bit concerned about the existing locks that won't be upgradeable though - what's the point of having this new standard if some people can't take advantage of it? 💸

🤔 So I was thinking, how many of you are tired of having to juggle multiple apps and passwords just to unlock your smart lock? 🚪 I mean, it's like, why can't they just make it one key, right? 😂 Anyway, Aliro seems like a game-changer in that regard. The idea of being able to unlock my door with just my phone or watch sounds like total freedom! 💻 But what I'm really curious about is how this whole standardization thing will affect the prices of smart locks in the future. Will they go down? Up? 🤑

I'm so hyped about this new standard 🤩. I mean, who hasn't struggled with getting their smart lock to work on different devices? It's like, you try to unlock it with your phone and it just won't budge... or you're trying to use that weird app from last year and it's just not cooperating 😒. But now, thanks to Aliro, we can finally have a unified unlocking experience across all our devices! 🤝 It's like having a key to unlock all of them at once 🔓. And the best part? No more needing cloud services or apps to make it work 💻. Just secure communication between your device and lock, that's the future I'm excited about 🌟

idk why everyone's hyped about this "unified unlocking" thing... it just means more complexity for us end-users. think about it, if every device needs to be compatible with every lock, that's just gonna lead to more hacking attempts and security breaches 🤔. plus, what's the point of having a unified system if it's still gonna rely on proprietary tech from companies like apple and google? shouldn't we be pushing for open-source solutions instead? 🚫

I'm low-key hyped about this new smart lock standard, but at the same time, I'm super skeptical 🤔... like, how are these big companies gonna actually make it work? They're all about making money, not exactly about user experience 💸. And what about people who already have old locks that can't be upgraded? Like, is this just a way for manufacturers to sell more stuff to us? 🤑

On the other hand, I'm also thinking about how awesome it'll be to finally have one standard for smart locks across all platforms 🤩... no more drama of trying to figure out which app to use or which lock type to buy. It's like, isn't this what we've been waiting for? 🤷‍♀️

omg i cant believe its finally happening! i remember when my friend had a kwikset lock and it was so annoying to use the app all the time 🙄 but now that aliro is launching, im so hyped! having unified unlocking across platforms means no more switching between different apps or devices to unlock my door. and the fact that its nfc and uwb based is so cool! i just hope my old lock can get an upgrade 😅 anyway, i think this is gonna be a game changer for smart home tech and ill definitely be on the lookout for locks with aliro support 📈

🤔 I'm super hyped about this new standard, but at the same time, it's a bit too late for me... like, remember when smart locks were just a novelty? Now they're everywhere and my grandpa has one too 🙄. On a serious note, though, it's crazy that it took so long to get something as simple yet essential as unified unlocking across platforms. But hey, better late than never! 💻 I'm excited to see what kind of innovation comes from this standard. Maybe it'll lead to some sweet new smart home gadgets 🏠🔧

🤯 I'm so hyped about this new standard! It's gonna make locking up my flat SO much easier 🚪💻, no more fumbling around for my phone or keys 😂. And it's cool that existing locks won't need to be replaced with a fancy new one, just the hardware update 💸. Nuki is already on board, and I'm stoked they are 👏, can't wait to get my hands on their smart lock 🚪💥!

Ugh, great, another tech standard that's just going to make things more complicated for us regular people 🤯. Like, who needs multiple apps to unlock their own smart lock? It's already hard enough dealing with all the other nonsense on my phone... And what about all the older locks that can't even get an upgrade? That's just great. The rich folks with newer locks will be able to finally use their fancy devices, while the rest of us are stuck in the dark ages 💡.

🤔 I'm so over people thinking that a standardized lock just means it's gonna be easy to hack... like, come on, asymmetric encryption is key here! 📈 It's awesome that major lock manufacturers are jumping on board tho. I can already imagine the convenience of being able to unlock my door with just a watch or my phone... no more fumbling for keys all day. Can't wait to see these locks pop up everywhere, but also hoping some of the smaller companies don't get left behind 🤦‍♂️
