Aitana Bonmatí makes Guardian top 100 history with third title in a row

Aitana Bonmatí has cemented her position in history by becoming the first player to top the Guardian's list of the world's best female footballers for a third consecutive year. The 27-year-old Barcelona midfielder, who has been a dominant force in the women's game for several years now, has consistently impressed with her incredible skills on the field.

Her impressive record speaks for itself - last year she won the top spot for the second time running, narrowly missing out on perfection this time around when she finished 453 points clear of compatriot Mariona Caldentey. However, it's a testament to Bonmatí's consistency that she has managed to reclaim the top spot once again, leaving everyone else in her wake.

Bonmatí's incredible career is full of highlights, including her impressive performances for Spain and Barcelona, as well as her impressive display in the Euro 2025 semi-final victory over Germany. Her ability to step up when needed most has earned her the respect and admiration of fans around the world.

With a record-breaking number of top-class talents entering the scene every year, it's getting harder for anyone to dethrone Bonmatí from her position at the top. Nevertheless, she continues to prove why she's considered one of the best in the game.

Bonmatí has become an iconic figure not just at home but around the world, with a legacy that will continue to inspire and influence future generations of female footballers. Her remarkable achievement is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport.

🤔 I mean, what's up with this "world's best" list anyway? Can't just pick one person and say they're the best, feels like they're not even trying anymore 🙄. And 453 points clear of that other girl? That doesn't even sound right... sounds like they're just making it up as they go along 😒.

And don't even get me started on the semi-final win over Germany 🏆. Like, who cares about one game in a tournament? It's not like she won some huge championship or anything 🤷‍♀️. I mean, I guess it's cool and all that, but still... 😐

And what's with the "iconic figure" nonsense? Can't just say someone is iconic because they're good at football 🙃. That sounds like a total cop-out to me 💔. I want to see some real analysis and thought put into these kinds of articles, not just superficial praise that doesn't even make sense 🤦‍♀️.

can't even imagine anyone dethroning Aitana now she's on a whole other level 🤩💪🌟 got so used to seeing her at the top of those lists it's crazy to think about anyone else giving her a run for her money 👀 still loving how passionate and dedicated she is to the game, and an inspiration to us all 🙌

omg can't believe aitana bonmatí is on top of the list again 🤩👏 she's literally unstoppable on the field!! 3 years in a row is insane! i mean don't get me wrong, there are so many talented players out there right now, but aitana's skills and consistency just take it to another level 🌟🔥 what's even more inspiring is seeing her inspire a whole new generation of female footballers - we're gonna see some amazing things in the future 😎

I'm so glad someone mentioned Aitana Bonmatí's crazy skills on the field lol 😂 she's honestly the real deal! I mean, being top 3rd consecutive year is insane for any female footballer let alone a midfielder 🤯 and to think she's only 27 years old? She's still got so much to give. I love how Spain and Barcelona have been her playground all these years, she's literally carried them to victory on multiple occasions 💪

lol @ "iconic figure" - like she's got a statue in Barcelona or something 🤣 anyway, congrats to Aitana Bonmatí on another #1 spot 😎 it's def not easy maintaining that level of consistency year after year, but i guess you could say she's 'sticking the boot in' 👞 to everyone else 💪
