A woman in her sixties was caught in a violent crime in Upper Manhattan yesterday when a stray bullet grazed her buttocks while she walked by West 204th Street and Broadway. She claimed to have witnessed a group of young people walking nearby before one of them fired a 9mm round, hitting her.
Police say the alleged shooter fled southbound on Broadway after firing the shot, leaving the woman's condition uncertain until paramedics arrived at the scene. The 64-year-old was rushed to Harlem Hospital where she received treatment in stable condition.
As authorities investigate this incident, police have yet to make an arrest. However, some positive trends are emerging from data analysis of recent shootings within the 34th Precinct โ which includes Inwood and Washington Heights โ in Upper Manhattan. There has been a notable decline of nearly 60% in shooting incidents compared to the same period last year.
In total, seven shootings have occurred in the precinct this year as of November 23, down significantly from 17 at the same time point in 2024.
