64-year-old bystander wounded by stray bullet in Upper Manhattan, police say

A woman in her sixties was caught in a violent crime in Upper Manhattan yesterday when a stray bullet grazed her buttocks while she walked by West 204th Street and Broadway. She claimed to have witnessed a group of young people walking nearby before one of them fired a 9mm round, hitting her.

Police say the alleged shooter fled southbound on Broadway after firing the shot, leaving the woman's condition uncertain until paramedics arrived at the scene. The 64-year-old was rushed to Harlem Hospital where she received treatment in stable condition.

As authorities investigate this incident, police have yet to make an arrest. However, some positive trends are emerging from data analysis of recent shootings within the 34th Precinct โ€“ which includes Inwood and Washington Heights โ€“ in Upper Manhattan. There has been a notable decline of nearly 60% in shooting incidents compared to the same period last year.

In total, seven shootings have occurred in the precinct this year as of November 23, down significantly from 17 at the same time point in 2024.

Man, I'm still trying to wrap my head around these violent crime stats for Upper Manhattan ๐Ÿคฏ. A lady grazed by a stray bullet is never okay, but it's even more concerning when you look at the bigger picture. The fact that there's been a decline of 60% in shooting incidents in this precinct is something to be hopeful about ๐Ÿ’ก.

But, I mean, seven shootings is still seven too many ๐Ÿค•. It feels like the NYPD has made some progress, but we need to keep pushing for more ๐Ÿ‘Š. And what about our community? How are people feeling about these shootings? Are we doing enough to support those who've been affected or their families? We can't just focus on the stats; we gotta make sure everyone's safe and sound ๐ŸŒŽ.

I'm also wondering, why is this happening in a place that's supposed to be family-friendly like Inwood and Washington Heights? What's driving these shootings, and how can we work together to stop 'em ๐Ÿ”. We need more than just data analysis; we need real solutions ๐Ÿ’ช.

Just saw this news about that random shooting in Upper Manhattan ๐Ÿคฏ and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. A bullet just grazes a woman's bum and she's lucky to be alive? It's crazy how quickly things can take a turn for the worse. And now they're saying there's been a decline in shootings in that area? Like, isn't that just a really nice coincidence? Or is everyone just getting more cautious around this time of year? I'm not buying it yet... 60% less shootings sounds too good to be true ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿ˜ฉ just heard about this lady who got grazed by a stray bullet and I'm still trying to process how scary that must be for her... 64 is old to be going through something like that ๐Ÿค•. You'd think with all the attention on gun control, we should see more of a decline in shootings, but at least from what I've seen, there's some hope in this particular precinct ๐Ÿ™. Those numbers are crazy - 60% less shootings? That's amazing news for those communities ๐Ÿ’–. Fingers crossed they catch whoever did it and make sure they face justice ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ.

Ugh ๐Ÿ˜ฉ just thinking about that woman and what she went through is giving me the chills... a stray bullet can happen to anyone, anywhere, and it's not like we're prepared for it here ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, what's going on with our city? Can't we do better than this?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ And 60% decline in shooting incidents? That's awesome, but it still doesn't change the fact that these young people are putting themselves and others at risk. What kind of message are we sending by not taking action against them? ๐Ÿ™„ We need to find a way to address this violence and keep our community safe ๐Ÿ’•

I'm thinking about this recent shooting incident... it's crazy that some young people are involved and it makes me think about how we can break the cycle of violence ๐Ÿค”. On a positive note, I'm glad to hear that there has been a significant decline in shooting incidents within the 34th Precinct - 60% less is a huge improvement! However, I'm still worried about the fact that no one's been arrested yet... it's like, we need to see some real progress on this front ๐Ÿš”. And can't help but wonder what led up to this incident... was it just a random shooting or was there something more going on?

man that's so scary what happened to that woman she's lucky to be alive ๐Ÿคฏ u gotta wonder wut made dat young dude shoot a random person in broad daylight?? and i'm glad her condition is stable tho, but like how did she even see the shooter after it was already too late? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ & yeah its good 2 hear that there's been a decline in shootings in that area, hopefully more cases like dis one will show ppl that violence isn't the answer ๐Ÿ’•

OMG I'm so relieved to hear that the woman is stable after being grazed by a stray bullet ๐Ÿ™... I mean what would you do if something like that happened? You're just walking along minding your own biz and suddenly BAM! A bullet whizzes past you, it's like something out of a movie.

And honestly, 60% less shootings in the same area is like, totally awesome news ๐ŸŽ‰... as much as I hate to think about crime, it's great that there are positive trends coming from those numbers. I just wish we could get to the bottom of why these incidents happen and how we can prevent them from happening in the future.

I was talking to my friend who lives near Inwood, she said that the area has changed a lot over the years... more young people moving in, maybe? Whatever it is, I hope they can figure out what's going on and keep everyone safe ๐Ÿคž

Just had to report another scary incident on Broadway ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŒ†. A lady in her 60s grazed by a stray bullet is lucky to be alive! How did she avoid getting hit? Anyway, it's still unsettling for all of us. On a more positive note, I've seen those stats about shooting incidents decreasing in Upper Manhattan and it's kinda uplifting ๐Ÿคž. Hope the community continues to show signs of improvement ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

Ugh, that's crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I mean, can you even imagine being grazed by a stray bullet? ๐Ÿคฏ It sounds like such a traumatic experience for her. The fact that she witnessed something before it happened is just wild...like, was she just standing there or what?! ๐Ÿค” And that the shooter fled on Broadway? That's just reckless and irresponsible. I feel bad for her and her family too, knowing they might've been dealing with this kind of uncertainty all day...not good! ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿค” y'know I'm not buying it... like what's really goin on here? This woman gets grazed by a stray bullet and suddenly there's a ton of data showin' a decline in shootings in that area? ๐Ÿค‘ seems like they're tryin' to spin somethin'. And what about the alleged shooter who got away? That's just too easy. I mean, what if this whole thing was staged or somethin'? Like, maybe it was all part of some bigger experiment to test out new gun control laws? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ IDK, but somethin' don't sit right with me... ๐Ÿ˜’
