The Chicago area woke up to a winter wonderland on Friday morning, with ice and snow building up along Lake Michigan. The cold weather has brought temperatures plummeting, with wind chills hovering around -30 degrees.

**Ice Forms Along the Lakefront Trail**

A photo taken by Tyler Pasciak LaRiviere shows ice cakes forming on a ladder along the Lakefront Trail on the North Side. The image captures the frozen landscape and the harsh conditions that come with winter in Chicago.

"The cold weather is making everything feel like it's stuck in time," said Pasciak LaRiviere, who took the photo. "It's like the world has been put on pause."

**Snow Builds Up at North Avenue Beach**

Another photo taken by Pasciak LaRiviere shows snow and ice building up at North Avenue Beach. The image captures the impact of the cold weather on Lake Michigan.

"The beach is normally a popular spot for people to enjoy the sun and sand, but today it's more like a frozen landscape," said Lopez, audience engagement specialist. "It's amazing to see how quickly the snow and ice can cover everything."

**Runners Brave the Cold**

Despite the harsh conditions, some runners took to the streets to enjoy their daily jog along the Lakefront Trail. Pasciak LaRiviere captured an image of a runner jogging along the trail, bundled up in layers.

"It's not easy running in this cold weather," said Lopez. "But for those who enjoy it, it's a great way to clear your head and get some exercise."

**Ice Forms Along the North Avenue Beach Pier**

Pasciak LaRiviere also took photos of ice forming along the pier at North Avenue Beach. The image captures the frozen landscape and the impact of the cold weather on the beach.

"It's amazing to see how quickly the ice can form," said Lopez. "It's like a whole new world has been created overnight."

**People Brave the Cold**

Despite the harsh conditions, people took to the streets to enjoy their day out. Pasciak LaRiviere captured an image of people walking along the North Avenue Beach Pier.

"It's not easy venturing out in this cold weather," said Lopez. "But for those who enjoy it, it's a great way to experience the city and get some fresh air."

The cold weather is expected to continue throughout the day, with temperatures remaining below freezing. Stay warm and stay safe, Chicagoans!

Ugh, I wish we had to deal with this kinda weather on exam days lol, my brain can't even focus right now thinking about all that ice and snow 🤣. But seriously though, it's crazy how quickly everything changes in Chicago, like one day it's sunny and the next it's all icy and snowy ❄️. I'm more worried about our school's heat system than anything else tho, can you imagine trying to study for a test with hypothermia? 😂

this whole winter wonderland thing sounds like just another excuse for people to be glued to their screens instead of getting outside 🙄 it's always something with the weather, can't we just have normal temperatures for once? and what's with all this ice and snow, is that really necessary? just a bunch of frozen water if you ask me ❄️

I mean, can you believe this winter in Chicago? It's like they're trying to break some sort of record for most ice and snow. I'm talking frozen lakefront trail, snow-covered beaches... it's like someone just flipped a switch and suddenly everyone had to bundle up. I guess it's not all bad though, at least the snow makes everything look like a fairytale or something 😂.

Ugh I wish my kids could just enjoy going out in this cold weather like those runners on the Lakefront Trail 🤣! They'd be shivering and complaining after like 2 minutes outside 😂. And don't even get me started on trying to take them ice skating at the rink, it's chaos every time ❄️. But seriously though, can someone please explain to me how we got to the point where our kids have to bundle up just to go outside and play in the snow? It's like a winter wonderland but also super harsh 🌫️.

aww man, chicago is looking like a winter wonderland out there 🌨️❄️! and i love how the cold weather has brought people together to enjoy the scenery - whether they're running, walking or just taking in the views along the lakefront trail 🏃‍♀️. it's amazing how quickly the snow and ice can cover everything, but in a weird way, it's kinda beautiful too 😊. and let's be real, who doesn't love an excuse to bundle up and stay cozy indoors with a hot cup of cocoa ☕️?

🌨️ This cold snap in Chicago is giving me chills... I mean, literally! ❄️ It's crazy how quickly everything can freeze up, from the lakefront trail to North Avenue Beach. I love how some people are still out enjoying the winter wonderland, bundled up like the Michelin Man 🤣. But for those who aren't a fan of this weather, I feel you - it's not easy venturing out in temps below freezing 😓. On the bright side, it's a great excuse to stay indoors with a hot cuppa and catch up on some Netflix shows 🍵👀. Anyone else hunkering down today?

🥶❄️ this cold snap is crazy, -30 wind chills who thought it was a good idea to wear shorts in chicago in january? 😂

This reminds me of that time in '98 when we had that crazy polar vortex, remember? The whole city was blanketed with snow and ice, just like this time. I swear, it felt like we were in a scene from a movie or something. Nowadays, everyone's always talking about how hard winter is, but back then, we didn't even think twice about shoveling our driveway at 6 am. These days, people are all bundled up just to take their dogs out for a walk! I'm just glad it's not as bad as the '98 storm, that was straight-up brutal 🥶💨

Ugh, I'm so over this cold snap already! 🥶❄️ It's like, I get it, winter in Chicago can be brutal, but 30 degrees with wind chill? That's just crazy talk! 😩 Anyway, I was out and about yesterday and saw all these people braving the elements to enjoy their day. And honestly, I think that's what makes life worth living - finding joy in the little things, even when it's freezing outside 😊. The photos of the ice and snow are gorgeous, btw... it looks like a winter wonderland out there! ❤️

omg this cold weather in chicago is crazy!!! 🤯 i mean who needs hot chocolate when you can have -30 degree wind chills? 😂 but seriously, it's like the city has been transformed into a winter wonderland and i'm here for it! ❄️ i saw a pic of ice cakes on the lakefront trail and it was so cool (get it? 🤷‍♀️) i wish i could run with those runners who are braving the cold, but i think i'll stick to sipping hot cocoa instead 😊

🌨️ I'm loving how Chicago's winter wonderland is bringing out the best in its people! From runners braving the cold to ice cakes forming along Lake Michigan, it's clear that everyone's making the most of this chilly weather 🏃‍♀️❄️. And can we talk about how quickly the snow and ice are covering everything? It's like a whole new world has been created overnight! 🌐 Anyway, just a heads up to everyone out there: stay warm and stay safe, Chicagoans! ☕

❄️ ice is like nature's own canvas, painting the city with shades of white and grey. but you can't help but feel for the runners out there, bundled up like mummies to brave the -30 degree winds 🧤💨. some people have a love-hate relationship with winter, but for those who enjoy it, it's like the whole world is frozen in time 🕰️✨. just stay warm and safe, chicagoans! ❤️

omg I hate waking up to -30 degree temps 😩, it's like someone took all the chill out of chicago and put it in the freezer 🥶. but at the same time, there's something magical about seeing lake michigan all frosty and icy ❄️... like the whole city is one big winter wonderland. I remember going ice skating on the trail a few years back and it was so much fun 🎿. the cold weather might be harsh, but it definitely makes for some epic photo ops 😊.

Wow ❄️ interesting how quickly snow and ice can cover everything, it's like the whole city has been frozen in time 😲. I guess some people actually enjoy running or going out in that kinda cold, good on them ☕️. The pics are straight fire 📸

ICU IT GETS COLD IN CHICAGO RIGHT NOW!!! THEY'RE LIKE, FROZEN TIME OR SOMETHING 🥶😂 AND YEAH THE ICE IS BUILDING UP ALONG LAKE MICHIGAN WHICH IS INSANE! BUT AT THE SAME TIME I FEEL FOR THOSE RUNNERS WHO ARE OUT THERE JUGGING AROUND IN THE COLD WEATHER... I GUESS IT'S NOT EASY BUT I GET WHY PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO DO IT ❄️🏃‍♂️

Ugh, can't even walk outside without freezing my buns off 🥶😒. I mean, I get it, winter in Chicago is no joke, but 30 degrees windchill? Are we living in some sort of dystopian novel or something? 😂 On the bright side, at least the Lakefront Trail looks like a legit ice rink now 🏒️. Runners are crazy for braving this stuff, though - I'd rather just drink hot cocoa and stare out the window 🍫😴.

You guys, it's like chicago is officially in winter mode 🌨️❄️! i'm not mad about it tho, i think its kinda cool to see the city all frozen over and stuff. like, have you ever seen the lakefront trail all icey and slippery? its like a giant ice rink just waiting to happen 🏒️. but at the same time, i feel bad for people who are trying to enjoy the outdoors in this crazy cold weather. like, yeah it's great exercise or whatever, but -30 degrees is no joke! 😓

anyway, i think its pretty cool that some ppl are actually out and about braving the elements. theres something so peaceful about walking along a frozen lake or something 🌊. and the pics from tyler pasciak lariviere are amazing btw. he's got such a great eye for capturing these winter wonderland moments.

overall, im just hyped to be living in chicago during winter. its like, the city takes on this whole new persona when it gets all snowy and icy ❄️🌨️.
