New England's Best Kept Ski Secrets

If you're a serious skier or snowboarder, it's time to ditch your resort destinations in California and Colorado and head to the East Coast. New England ski resorts are a hidden gem when it comes to world-class skiing and riding on varied terrain for all levels.

At the top of the list is Saddleback Mountain Resort in Rangeley, Maine, which was voted the best ski resort in the East by Ski magazine readers. The mountain boasts 68 trails, two terrain parks, seven lifts, and a vertical drop of 2,000 feet.

Massachusetts has several excellent ski resorts, including Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, which offers 125 skiable acres, 27 trails, eight lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,000 feet. The resort is also known for its family-friendly atmosphere and scenic views of Wachusett Lake.

Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford ranks among the top places to ski in Massachusetts, with a vertical drop of 240 feet, 17 trails, ten lifts, and a snowboard and tubing park.

The Berkshires offer a range of excellent ski resorts, including Jiminy Peak in Hancock, which was named the best ski area for beginners by OnTheSnow.com users. The mountain boasts 45 trails, covering over 167 acres, nine lifts, and two terrain parks.

Vermont is home to Killington Ski Resort, which has the most skiable terrain in the East and was among the first resorts to open this season in New England. The resort offers a behemoth of skiing and riding with over 1,500 skiable acres, seven distinct mountain areas, tall peaks, and steep vertical drop.

Stowe Mountain Resort was named one of the top 20 ski resorts in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler readers and is known for its iconic tram ride to the summit. The resort offers a vertical drop of 2,360 feet, 485 skiable acres, 116 trails, and 12 lifts.

Jay Peak, located in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, was named the best ski resort in Vermont by Boston.com readers. The resort boasts a vertical drop of 2,122 feet, 81 trails, and nine lifts.

New Hampshire has several excellent ski resorts, including Bretton Woods, which offers a vertical drop of 1,600 feet, 464 acres of skiing and riding, ten lifts, 63 trails, and views of Mount Washington and the Presidential Range. The resort was named one of the top 20 ski resorts in the U.S. by Good Housekeeping readers.

Ragged Mountain in Danbury is a hidden gem with 57 trails, five lifts, and 250 skiable acres. The resort has been named among the best ski resorts in New Hampshire by Travel + Leisure magazine and considered the best value in New England by the New England Ski Journal.
 
I'm not sure I buy into all these East Coast ski resorts being hidden gems ๐Ÿค”. I mean, have you seen the prices for lift tickets in Vermont? It's like they're charging per snowflake or something ๐Ÿ’ธ. And don't even get me started on the crowds at Stowe and Killington - can't we just keep it chill on the slopes? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I've been to Saddleback Mountain Resort in Maine and it's literally one of my fave places on earth - the views from the top are breathtaking ๐Ÿ’ซ! And I'm also super excited to try out Killington Ski Resort in Vermont, I've heard they have some of the most epic terrain on the East Coast ๐ŸŽฟ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Stowe Mountain Resort is another favorite of mine, their tram ride to the summit is so Instagrammable ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ‘! Can't wait to hit the slopes at Jay Peak and Bretton Woods too โ„๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธ!
