Why Gavin Newsom is gambling on new rules for Trump 2.0

California Governor Gavin Newsom has been taking heat from his own party for his right-wing podcast guests and his willingness to appear on conservative media outlets. However, in recent weeks, he's shifted his tone and is now focusing on engaging with the public and positioning himself as a lefty alternative in the GOP-de-jour manosphere space.

Newsom has launched a new solo podcast called "This is Gavin Newsom" where he discusses topics such as the importance of science and reason in politics. He has also been using social media to connect with voters and share his views on various issues, including climate change, healthcare, and education.

In addition, Newsom's campaign for Proposition 50, a ballot initiative that would redraw five congressional districts in California to be more Democratic-leaning, has been gaining momentum. The proposition is expected to pass if it gets the necessary signatures, which could potentially flip five existing Republican seats in the midterms.

Newsom's strategy of engaging with conservatives and using humor to connect with voters appears to be working. His podcast has gained a large following, and his social media presence has increased significantly. Additionally, his campaign for Proposition 50 is gaining momentum, with many experts predicting that it will pass.

However, some critics are accusing Newsom of being hypocritical by taking conservative views on certain issues while also promoting himself as a progressive Democrat. John Dennis, former chair of the San Francisco Republican Party, said that Newsom doesn't know who he is and is trying to be everybody else. Dan Schnur, a longtime California political analyst, called the Proposition 50 campaign "a self-delivered political gift for Newsom."

Despite these criticisms, Newsom's strategy appears to be working, at least in the short term. He has positioned himself as a formidable contender for the Democratic presidential nomination and is gaining momentum in his state's politics.

In an interview with ABC News' Jonathan Karl, Newsom explained that he is trying to have a little humor in this process while also fighting fire with fire. He said that by engaging with conservatives and using humor, he can get into the work he is trying to do on Prop 50 and other issues.

Overall, it seems that Newsom's strategy of taking heat from his own party and positioning himself as a lefty alternative in the GOP-de-jour manosphere space is working. However, it remains to be seen how long this will last and whether it will ultimately help or hurt his chances of becoming president.

I'm thinking that Gavin Newsom's unorthodox strategy to connect with conservatives and use humor to win over voters is actually a genius move 🤔. By taking heat from his own party and engaging with the right-wing crowd, he's successfully flipped the script on traditional politics. I mean, who wouldn't want to listen to a progressive Democrat who can poke fun at himself and have real conversations about issues like climate change and healthcare? 🌎💡

Newsom's ability to use humor and self-deprecation has helped him build a massive following on his podcast, which is a huge deal for a politician. And let's be real, his social media presence has been on point lately 📱👍. By sharing his views on issues like education and healthcare, he's positioned himself as a lefty alternative in the GOP-de-jour manosphere space.

However, I do think some critics have a valid point when they say that Newsom is being hypocritical by taking conservative views while promoting himself as a progressive Democrat 🤔. But at the end of the day, his strategy seems to be working, at least in the short term. And who knows, maybe this will be the starting point for a new era of bipartisan politics 💬.

I think Gavin Newsom's new strategy is pretty smart 🤔... I mean, who doesn't love a good podcast, right? 😂 But seriously, connecting with voters and using humor to break the ice can be really effective. It shows that he's willing to listen and have a conversation about issues that matter, even if they're not always progressive. And Props 50 is looking like it's gonna pass, which would be huge for CA 🤞... I'm curious to see how this all plays out in the long run though. Will he get stuck in that middle ground forever? Or will his message really start to resonate with folks? 🤔

Wow 🤯 Newsom's strategy is crazy! He's like a chameleon - one day he's talking right-wing stuff on his podcast, the next he's tweeting about climate change 😂. I'm not sure if it's genius or just desperate attempts to stay relevant. His campaign for Prop 50 has definitely gained traction, but how long will that last?

I'm not sure about Gavin Newsom's new podcast thing... 🤔 I mean, why does he need a podcast? Can't he just do the same stuff on Twitter or something? But I guess it's kinda cool that he's trying to connect with voters and all that jazz... 💡 He's got a point about science and reason in politics, that's something we should all be talking about. 🌟 The thing is, though, some people are saying he's being hypocrite by saying one thing and doing another... 🤷‍♂️ I don't know, man... maybe he just wants to show that he can appeal to both sides of the aisle? 😊

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say, Gavin Newsom's podcast is kinda interesting 🤔. He's talking about science and reason in politics which is a breath of fresh air, you know? But at the same time, it feels like he's trying too hard to be funny and relatable on social media... it's just not his thing 😂. And yeah, using conservative media outlets to boost his image is some weird strategy 🤷‍♂️. I mean, I get what he's trying to do – connect with voters and break the mold of traditional politics – but it feels like he's sacrificing his values in the process.

I think what's interesting about this whole thing is how it reflects the current state of politics in America 🗳️. We're living in a time where party lines are blurring, and people are looking for alternatives to traditional politicians. Newsom's strategy might just be one of many ways that politicians are trying to adapt to this new landscape.

But anyway, I don't know if his plan is gonna work out in the end 🤞. There are still plenty of folks who'll call him out on his hypocrisy and accuse him of being a sellout 😒. Only time will tell if he's able to make it work and become a viable candidate for the presidency 💥

idk why newsom's doin dis 🤷‍♂️. 1st he's takin heat from his own party for bein too centrist, then he starts talkin to conservatives on podcast & social media... its like hes tryna flip the script lol. ppl r all over it - some say hes being hypocrite, but others say its genius strategy 🤯. either way, newsom's comin out strong 4 his prop 50 campaign & seems like shes got a shot at the dem nom. wut do u think tho?

omg just read that gavin newsom's gonna run for dems prez 🤯 what if he actually wins tho? idk about him trying to connect with conservatives, feels like a cop-out 😒 his podcast is gaining a lot of followers but i wonder how long it'll last... and btw, prop 50 is expected to pass, which means more reps will be shifted to the dems 🤝 not sure if this is a good thing or not, probs just gonna lead to more partisanship 🤕

I'm not sure if Gavin Newsom's trying to start a new trend here 🤔 but it kinda works? Like, who wouldn't want to listen to the Cali governor dish out some laughs and hot takes on climate change and all that jazz 😂? It's def got me curious about his views, you know? And I'm low-key rooting for him to take down some of those Republican seats in California 🤞

But at the same time, idk if taking conservative views just to appeal to folks is the most genuine thing ever? Can't help but feel like he's trying to flip sides or something 🤑. Either way, I'm interested to see where this whole thing goes and what impact it'll have on his presidential bid 💬

Newsom's shift towards being more relatable to voters by engaging with conservatives on social media and his podcast is a bold move! 🤔 He's using humor to connect with people, which is actually kinda genius 💡. I mean, who doesn't love a good laugh while discussing policy? 😂 Plus, his stance on issues like climate change and healthcare is still firmly in the progressive camp. #ProgressOverPolarization

The fact that he's taking heat from his own party for it might be a sign of his willingness to listen and adapt 🗣️. And who knows, maybe it'll pay off if he can win over some moderate Republicans with his message 🤞. But we gotta keep an eye on this, 'cause hypocrisy accusations are always a possibility 😬.

All in all, I think Newsom's strategy is working for now, but only time will tell if it's sustainable 🔮 #GavinNewsom2024

I gotta say 🤔, Gavin Newsom's been on quite a roll lately. I mean, who would've thought the Cali Governor'd start spewing right-wing vibes and then just shift gears to being all lefty and funny 🎉? His new podcast is straight fire 🔥, and his social media game is stronger than ever 💁‍♀️. He's really showing that you don't have to be a one-trick pony in politics - can pivot and adapt when needed! 👍 And let's be real, if he can pull off flipping 5 seats with this Prop 50 thingy 📈, that'd be huge for Dems in the midterms. Love how he's poking fun at himself and not taking it too seriously 🤷‍♂️...only time'll tell if it's a gimmick or the real deal 💬.

🤔 So I'm watching Gavin Newsom's podcast and he's talking about science and reason? That sounds kinda cool, but also a bit weird coming from someone who's been hanging out with conservatives on the other side. 🚀 I mean, it's like trying to convince people to wear sunscreen by wearing a leather jacket to the beach. 😂 But hey, if it's working for him, more power to him, right? 💪 It's also kind of interesting that he's positioning himself as a lefty alternative in the GOP-de-jour manosphere space... that just seems like a bunch of confusing buzzwords to me 🤯 Does anyone actually know what they mean? 😂

Imo 🤔 Newsom's strategy is pretty clever 👊. He's not afraid to be himself & show a different side of the coin ✨. By engaging with conservatives, he's able to connect with voters on a more personal level 💬. It's all about building bridges, not just preaching to the choir 🌉. Plus, who says you can't have a good laugh while also getting stuff done? 😂 His podcast & social media presence are on point, btw! 👍 Newsom's a shoo-in for the Dem nom, IMHO 💪. #NewsomForPresident #CaliforniaPolitics #LeftyAlternative

Ugh, I'm so over this whole thing 🙄. Newsom thinks he can just go around being a pseudo-lefty and still get away with saying whatever the hell he wants? Like, come on, Gavin! You're not fooling anyone with your "This is Gavin Newsom" podcast 📻. It's just a bunch of scripted soundbites to make you seem like a regular guy who cares about science and reason... meanwhile, you're still talking trash about conservatives on that right-wing podcast 🤦‍♂️. And don't even get me started on Prop 50 – it's just a cheap ploy to try and flip some seats in the midterms and get himself noticed for the Dem nom 🤑. Give me a break! 😒

I'm low-key impressed by Gavin Newsom's move 🤔. I mean, who wouldn't wanna connect with voters on their own turf? He's kinda like a hipster trying to bridge the gap between lefty & righty 😎. But at the same time, it feels like he's walking a thin line – like, is he really being genuine or just playing the role of the "cool progressive" 🤷‍♂️?

I think his podcast is actually kinda funny 📻, and it's dope that he's using social media to share his views. But, like, what about when it comes down to actual policy decisions? Will he be able to keep it real or just cave to the masses? 💔

It's also wild how quickly he's gained momentum 🔥 – I guess you could say he's "ghosted" the whole Democratic party 😂. Fingers crossed that his strategy doesn't backfire, but we'll have to wait and see 🤞

This whole thing is just like the old US Senate adage - "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". 🤔 Newsom's decision to poke fun at conservatives on his podcast and connect with them on social media is just another form of pragmatic politics, where the line between left and right gets blurred. But let's be real, who does this benefit? The people, or Newsom himself looking for a way in to the White House? 🤷‍♂️ It's all about finding common ground, but at what cost? Will he become just another centrist politician, watered down and lacking conviction on his actual progressive values? 📉

I'm not surprised Gavin's trying to be "cool" like that 🙄. I mean, who doesn't love a good dose of humor with their politics? It's not like he's just trying to pander to the masses or anything... 😒. But seriously, if it gets him more signatures for Prop 50, then I'm all for it. Maybe this is the perfect blend of "being in" and "not being out"? 🤔

I think Gavin Newsom's trying something super cool here 🤩 - he's taking a risk by engaging with conservatives and using humor to connect with voters. It's not always easy to make people from different sides see eye to eye, but I love that he's giving it a shot 💡. His podcast is gaining so much traction and his social media presence is killing it 📈! Props to him for being brave enough to try something new and shake things up in the California politics scene 😎. And let's be real, if Prop 50 passes, it's gonna be HUGE 🤯... fingers crossed that it all works out for him 💪!

Newsom's about 5 years into being gov, now he tryin' to connect with people on a more personal level. He realize that bein all serious and robotic won't get him the votes he need. So instead of just focusin' on what party he belongs to, he start showin' people that he actually care about their problems.

It's like when you're tryin' to lose weight, you can't just cut out all the food groups and expect it to work. You gotta make changes that are sustainable for you, not just some quick fix. Newsom doin' somethin' similar here - takin' the things he's passionate about (science, reason, climate change etc) and sharin' them with people in a way that's relatable.

It's also showin' that even when we disagree with someone, we can still respect 'em for their opinions. Newsom not tryin' to force feed his views down people's throats, he's more about listenin' and understandin' where they're comin from.

So who knows, maybe this is the start of somethin' new in politics - takin' a more nuanced approach that actually makes you wanna listen.

OMG, I'm low-key surprised by Gavin Newsom's new podcast 🤯! He's like totally embracing the whole lefty thing and sharing his views on science and reason in politics 💡. But for real though, I think it's cool that he's trying to connect with voters through social media and humor 😂. Like, who doesn't love a good joke or two? And I'm all about Proposition 50 passing 🙌, it would be amazing to see some of those Republican seats flip in the midterms.

I mean, I know some ppl are calling him out for being hypocritical, but like, come on guys 😒. He's just trying to find his way and make a difference in politics, right? And honestly, his strategy seems to be working 🤝. He's gaining traction and momentum, and who knows, maybe he'll even catch the attention of the Dem presidential nom 🤞.

I'm curious to see how this whole thing plays out though 🤔. Will Gavin Newsom become the next big thing in politics? Only time will tell 💭
