West Ham are a shambles – and Nuno shows little sign of being able to fix it | Jacob Steinberg

West Ham United are in a state of crisis, with Portuguese manager Nuno Espírito Santo struggling to turn around the team's fortunes since taking charge just over a month ago. Despite having some talented players at their disposal, such as Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson, the Hammers have been outperformed by promoted sides Brentford and Leeds, losing both matches in embarrassing fashion.

Nuno's tactics have been widely panned, with critics calling into question his ability to get the best out of his players. The team's start to the season has been so poor that it rivals one of the worst begins in Premier League history, when Avram Grant managed the side back in 2010-11. However, there was some improvement against Leeds, where West Ham ultimately lost 2-0.

Despite this small glimmer of hope, West Ham are still struggling to find their footing under Nuno's management. The team lacks direction and has a number of key players missing due to injury or international commitments. Even the most optimistic fans would struggle to see Nuno's side avoiding relegation, with West Ham already on four points from nine games.

Transfer talk is beginning to circulate, with some suggesting that funds may be available in January to bring in some fresh talent. However, it's unlikely that any major signings will be made, and those who are already at the club seem woefully out of form. Nuno has shown little faith in Wilson, who was a late substitute against Brentford but failed to make an impact.

The question on everyone's mind is what went wrong under previous manager Graham Potter? One answer might be that Nuno lacked the necessary support and ideas coming into West Ham. But rather than focusing on his own shortcomings, it's worth taking a closer look at the club's recruitment department and their role in the team's decline.

West Ham's largest shareholder, David Sullivan, has been widely criticized for allowing Tim Steidten to waste vast sums on transfers while technical director. And despite an attempt to replace Kyle Macaulay with a new head of recruitment, it's unclear whether this change will have any lasting impact.

Ultimately, the only way out of the mess that is West Ham United is for Nuno to find his mojo and make some smart decisions. Until then, fans can expect another long and arduous season in the Premier League.

Ugh, can't believe how bad West Ham's start has been 🤦‍♂️. I mean, they've got talented players like Bowen and Wilson, but Nuno just can't seem to get it right. He needs to shake things up ASAP or we'll be heading straight for the Championship 😩. And don't even get me started on the recruitment department - David Sullivan's been sitting on his hands while wasting cash on dodgy transfers 💸. It's time for a change, whether that means Nuno leaving or some new blood being brought in 🔄. Can't wait to see what the January transfer window brings... maybe some much-needed fresh faces? 🤞

I think West Ham's troubles run deeper than just Nuno's tactics 🤔. The fact that they've been outperformed by promoted teams suggests there might be a bigger issue at play. I'm not convinced it's all on Nuno, but rather a lack of solid recruitment in the past. David Sullivan needs to take some responsibility for the club's transfer policy and get Tim Steidten back under control 🤑. If they can sort out that department, maybe we'll see a different story unfold at West Ham ⚽️.

idk what's going on with west ham atm 🤷‍♂️ they've got talent but nuno's tactics are whack 💔 he's not doing enough to get the best out of his players, if u ask me... it's all on david sullivan & tim steidten, who r supposed 2 b runnin' the recruitment show 🤦‍♂️ they're just wastin' money on transfers that don't work out 😒 maybe they shd take a hard look at themselves 1st b4 blame nuno 👀

🤔 I mean, come on... Nuno's tactics are rubbish, but at the same time, I think he's being unfairly judged... The team's poor form is more a result of the players not working together properly than Nuno's management style... 🤷‍♂️ But, and this is a big but, even if Nuno does find his mojo, it's still going to be tough for West Ham to turn things around with that dodgy recruitment department... 💸 I mean, who lets Tim Steidten waste all that cash on transfers? That's just not good enough... 🤦‍♂️ But, on the other hand, maybe they're finally getting it right with this new head of recruitment guy... 🤞 Who knows?

I think its not all doom and gloom for the Hammers 🙅‍♂️! Yeah, they're having a tough patch right now but thats just how it goes when you bring in new blood and try to shake things up 😊. I mean, Nuno's had some tough matches already and the squad's been hit with injuries and whatnot 🤕. But we all know that West Ham's got the talent there – Jarrod Bowen's a beast on the pitch 🔥! And let's not forget they've still only played 9 games so far 😅.

The thing is, Nuno needs some support from the backroom staff, especially the recruitment team 🤝. They need to sort out their transfer strategy and get some quality players in ASAP 💸. And fans can't help but wonder what could've been done differently under Graham Potter 🤔. But lets not forget that West Ham's got a huge following and they'll get through this together as a team 👊!

😐 I'm not expecting much from West Ham this season 🤦‍♂️. They've got some talented players but it's like they're stuck in neutral gear ⛔️. Nuno needs to shake things up, figure out a winning formula and get the squad working together 💡. The recruitment department is a joke 🤣, I mean seriously, how many years has Steidten been at this job? Four? Five? It's like they're making it harder for themselves 🙄. Fans deserve better than to watch their team get embarrassed by teams like Brentford and Leeds 😳. Can't wait to see what January brings (or not) 🤞... probably just more of the same 😔

omg i feel so bad for west ham fans 🤕 they're having such a tough time this season!!! nuno's tactics just aren't working out and it's so frustrating when u see ur team getting smashed by promoted sides like brentford 🚫 those talented players like jarrod bowen & callum wilson deserve better ⚽️ david sullivan needs to step in and sort out the recruitment department ASAP, tim steidten is a disaster waiting to happen 😩 nuno still has time to turn things around but it's gonna take some serious changes on the pitch and behind the scenes 🔄 fingers crossed for west ham!! 🤞

I'm getting a bit worried about West Ham's season 🤕. I mean, they've got some talented players, but it's clear they need some changes behind the scenes 👥. Nuno's tactics just aren't working out, and with all these injuries and international commitments, it's like they're playing with 9 on the pitch 🏆. The fact that they're struggling to find direction is a big concern - if they don't get their act together soon, I think relegation is definitely a possibility 😬.

I'm not sure what Graham Potter was doing wrong, but I do think Nuno needs some support from the recruitment department 💸. It's been criticized in the past for making some dodgy transfers, and it looks like they're still having issues 🤦‍♂️. David Sullivan's got to step up and sort this out - the fans are getting frustrated 😩.

One thing's for sure, West Ham need to make some changes ASAP ⏰ or they'll be facing another long year in the Premier League 🔁.

Man, West Ham's struggles are real 🤕😩. I mean, you've got talented players like Bowen and Wilson, but they're just not getting the results on the pitch. Nuno's tactics have been a disaster so far, it's like he's trying to lose games rather than win them. And don't even get me started on David Sullivan, their owner, he's clearly dropped the ball when it comes to recruitment. I mean, who signs Tim Steidten in the first place? 🙄 It's all about Nuno making some smart decisions and getting his team back on track, but until then, it's gonna be a long season for the Hammers ⏰.

I gotta say, it's a total shock that West Ham's having such a rough time under Nuno. I mean, they've got talent like Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson, but clearly, something's not clicking. The thing is, all these injuries and player absences are making it tough for the team to find consistency. And yeah, the losses to Brentford and Leeds were pretty embarrassing. But you know what's even more shocking? How they're still struggling after Graham Potter left. I'm no expert, but it seems like Nuno needed some support when he came in, maybe some fresh ideas from the recruitment department. David Sullivan and Tim Steidten need to get their act together, pronto! Until then, fans are stuck with another long season... 🤦‍♂️

🤔 I'm getting skeptical about this whole Nuno thing... what's the evidence that he was a good manager elsewhere? I mean, Brentford got promoted too, and they still have their own issues 😒. And what about those injuries and absences that are plaguing West Ham right now? Is it really fair to blame Nuno when the team is missing half its squad? 💔 The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering if West Ham's problems run deeper than just one manager... maybe they need a complete overhaul of their scouting department and coaching staff? 🤝

I mean, it's crazy how quickly things have fallen off a cliff at West Ham 😱. I remember when they had that great run under Slaven Bilic back in 2016-17, they were almost automatic promotions contender. Now, look what's happened 🤦‍♂️. Nuno's tactics just aren't cutting it and the team is missing that spark. And don't even get me started on the recruitment department... it's like they're trying to make things worse ⚠️.

I know Graham Potter did a good job, but maybe he didn't have all the resources he needed? But at this point, Nuno needs to step up his game and make some smart decisions before it's too late. The fans are getting frustrated and I don't blame them 😩. It's been ages since West Ham had a decent season... 2016-17 was a distant memory by the end of last season 📆.

I think if they want to get out of this mess, they need to make some real changes behind the scenes. New heads in recruitment and maybe someone who can bring in some fresh ideas? Nuno needs to find his mojo and fast ⏱️. Otherwise, it's just going to be another long and painful season for the Hammers 🤕

omg I'm so tired of nuno's tactics lol 🤯 he's just not getting it right, you know? like, i get that west ham's had some tough breaks with injuries and all that, but four points from nine games is just insane 😂. and don't even get me started on callum wilson - what's going on with that guy? 🤷‍♂️

i think the real problem is david sullivan not doing his job properly as shareholder 👀 he needs to get in there and sort out the recruitment department ASAP. it's all about getting the right players, you feel me? 💪 nuno's got some good players on paper, but if they're not being utilized correctly... 🤔

anyway, i'm gonna stick by west ham, even when it seems like everything is going wrong 😊 we'll get 'em out of this mess yet! ⚽

omg, west ham united is literally in a dark place right now 🤯 they need to shake things up big time, starting with that recruitment department - david sullivan needs to step up their game 💪 it's not all nuno's fault (although he's gotta do better), they're missing some key players and the tactics just aren't working 📉 a fresh injection of talent would be just what the doctor ordered 🎯 but let's not forget, fans have been patient before... remember when avram grant took over in 2010-11? yeah, same vibes 😬

I feel so bad for the Hammers' fans! They're just getting roasted in the league right now 🤕. I mean, you've got these talented players like Bowen and Wilson, but they're not even winning games against promoted teams? It's crazy to think that their start is already rivaling one of the worst beginnings in Premier League history... ever! 😲

I think the bigger issue here is the recruitment department, though. They're getting slammed for throwing money at transfers without actually making them work out 🤑. I'm not saying Nuno can't turn it around, but he's definitely got his work cut out for him. And what about all the fans who are just waiting to see if they'll make some smart signings in January? Fingers crossed! 🤞

I don't think we should be too hard on Nuno just yet, though - he's only been in charge a month! 👍 But at the same time, it's gotta be tough to see his team struggling so much. Can someone please just find some magic for this squad?! ✨
