Two wounded in Oregon shooting involving US immigration officers after Minnesota killing

Shooting Sparks Protests as Oregon Officials Demand Answers on Fatal Immigrant Encounter

In Portland, two individuals were shot by federal immigration agents in a vehicle outside an Adventist Health hospital. The victims were reportedly involved in human trafficking. The incident has drawn criticism from local officials who claim that the federal government is undermining public safety with its militarized approach to enforcing immigration laws.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed 35-year-old Renee Nicole Good during a traffic stop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The incident has reignited protests outside ICE facilities in Portland, Oregon, where local officials are demanding answers about the circumstances surrounding both shootings.

"We stand united as elected officials in saying that we cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts," said Portland City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney. "Portland is not a 'training ground' for militarized agents, and the 'full force' threatened by the administration has deadly consequences."

The city's mayor, Keith Wilson, echoed similar sentiments, saying that he didn't necessarily believe the federal government's account of the shooting. "There was a time we could take them at their word. That time is long past," he said.

Meanwhile, Oregon State Senator Kayse Jama called on ICE to leave the state, stating, "You are not welcome... You need to get the hell out of Oregon."

As tensions continue to rise, US Sen. Jeff Merkley urged protesters to remain peaceful, warning that President Trump's administration is trying to generate riots. The FBI is leading the investigation into both shootings, but officials have yet to provide details about what prompted the fatal encounter in Minneapolis.

Portland police are treating the situation as a crime scene, and officers applied a tourniquet to one of the wounded individuals. Both victims were airlifted to hospital with gunshot wounds, although their conditions were not immediately available.

The incident has brought attention to ongoing debates about immigration enforcement policies and the impact on local communities.

🤔 I think this whole thing is super messed up... Like, what even is human trafficking? And why did these agents just shoot people without knowing everything? It's like they're trying to make a point or something... and it's not working 😒. The thing that really gets me is the government's reaction - all these politicians are talking about how they can't trust the feds anymore, but what do they propose instead? Just gonna sit back and let people get hurt? 🤷‍♀️ It feels like we're just swapping one problem for another... 😬.

I don't usually comment but... I feel really bad for Renee Nicole Good and whoever was with her in that car. You'd think they'd be enjoying a family outing at the hospital, instead it all goes wrong. The fact that ICE agents are being trained to handle situations like this is just worrying – what's next? Going around arresting random people who might not even have done anything wrong? I don't get why we can't just talk about this stuff and find solutions without resorting to violence. It's getting so messy. 🤕

🤔 this is all so messed up ... federal agents just waltzing in and shooting people for allegedly being involved in human trafficking... how's that gonna make our cities safer? 🚨 Portland's got a point, though - militarizing immigration enforcement feels like an overreach. Can't we find a way to address these issues without resorting to violence? 💔

😒 this is getting crazy... like what's next? cops start shooting people left and right just because they think someone might be "involved" in human trafficking... meanwhile our cities are just going downhill with this militarized approach... can't we just talk about stuff instead of resorting to violence? 🤦‍♀️

idk what's going on here 🤷‍♂️. first it's human trafficking, now it's cops shooting people in traffic... sounds like a total mess. i mean, can we just have a calm conversation about immigration reform without all this chaos? 🤯 and what's with the militarized approach? doesn't that just fuel more conflict? 🚫 Portland's got a right to be mad, imo. those officials are speaking truth, even if it means going against the feds. ✊️ still, i don't think we should be calling for people to "get out" of their own state 😬, that's just basic human decency. how about we focus on finding solutions instead of demonizing each other? 🤝

I'm so done with this latest drama 🤯🚨. Like, I get it, we need stricter laws and all that, but the way the feds are handling these situations is just ridiculous 😒. I mean, come on, a traffic stop in Minneapolis ends in someone getting shot to death? That's not law enforcement, that's just plain crazy! 💥 And now they're sending more agents into Portland, like we need that kind of stress and tension in our city 🙅‍♀️. Our local officials are right on point when they say the feds are undermining public safety with their militarized approach 🚫. Can't we just have a calm conversation about this stuff instead of resorting to violence? 😩 I'm tired of seeing innocent people get caught in the crossfire of these power struggles 💔.
