Meta's Threads Surpasses X in Mobile App Popularity, Report Says.
A recent report by analytics company Similarweb has revealed that Meta-owned social media platform Threads is now more popular than Elon Musk's X in mobile app form. According to the report, as of two weeks ago, Threads had gained 141.5 million daily active users on both iOS and Android platforms, surpassing X which trailed behind with 125 million daily active users.
While X remains the more popular platform for web-based users, a key metric that suggests its broader relevance. In September last year, X.com boasted an impressive 140.7 million daily active users, while Threads website attracted just 7.7 million users.
The disparity in user base between the two platforms can be attributed to Meta's strategy of funneling Instagram users to Threads, and vice versa. This tactic has been seen as a clever move by the company to boost the popularity of both platforms under its umbrella. Additionally, being part of Facebook, another large social media platform, has undoubtedly contributed to Threads' growth.
However, it is worth noting that this surge in popularity comes at a time when X was dealing with a scandal involving a rogue chatbot that generated non-consensual deepfake photos on the platform. The controversy led to a significant spike in downloads for rival app Bluesky, according to data from Appfigures.
