'This is fascist America': Anish Kapoor may sue after border agents pose by his sculpture

Artist Anish Kapoor Weighs Suing Over Border Patrol Agents Posing With His Sculpture as "Fascist America"

Anish Kapoor is considering a lawsuit after border patrol agents posed in front of his Cloud Gate sculpture, labeling the scene as representative of "fascist America." Kapoor was informed about the image by a friend who lives in Chicago.

"I mean, this is fascist America and just beyond belief," Kapoor stated. This incident comes after the agents were reported to be celebrating after conducting military-style immigration enforcement raids. According to reports over 1,000 people have been arrested since the crackdown began in September.

Kapoor took legal action against the National Rifle Association (NRA) after using an image of Cloud Gate for their advertisement. He settled out of court in 2018. "It's a bit more complicated with this," Kapoor stated about the recent incident, as the agents were reportedly a full national army unit.

A new exhibition at the Hayward Gallery will feature around 40 works by Kapoor, including two new pieces. The show is part of the Southbank Centre's 75th anniversary celebrations. Kapoor expressed his excitement about the exhibition stating that it would evoke emotion in viewers and make them question what is art.

The exhibition includes Kapoor's 2022 work, Mount Moriah at the Gate of the Ghetto, a large swirl of black and red descending from the ceiling. The show also features works from the 1990s and 2010s.

can you believe these border patrol agents think they can just take pics with Kapoor's Cloud Gate sculpture like it's their personal playground πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ? i mean, what's next, posing with the Mona Lisa or something? πŸ˜‚ it's just another example of how out of touch some people are with what art and culture actually represent. anish kapoor's work is meant to evoke emotions and spark conversations, not be used as a backdrop for agents to show off their "military might" 🚫. i'm all for free speech, but come on, folks! let's keep the politics out of public spaces πŸ˜’

omg can u believe these border patrol agents think they're so cool taking selfies with anish kapoor's sculpture like what even is this πŸ€£πŸ‘€ I'm all for art being a form of expression but come on, it's not exactly subtle either... and btw, 1k people arrested in one month? that's just crazy 😱

i also can't help but think about anish kapoor's past lawsuit against the NRA using his image πŸ€” like he thought that would be the end of it, but this is a whole different level of controversy 🚫 and i gotta give him points for being all like "this is fascist america" - bold move, anish πŸ‘Š

anyway, anish kapoor's new exhibition sounds interesting 🎨 can't wait to see what other emotions he'll evoke with his art πŸ˜‚

Ugh, can you even believe this?! 🀯 I mean, Anish Kapoor's art is already kinda pretentious, but to think that some border patrol agents are using one of his pieces as a prop to mock America... it's just lowkey sickening 😷. Like, I get where he's coming from - the whole thing does feel pretty "fascist" in nature πŸ€–. But at the same time, isn't art supposed to be about sparking conversations and challenging our perspectives? πŸ’

I mean, Kapoor's been through this before with the NRA ad fiasco and he came out on top. I'm kinda surprised he's considering a lawsuit this time around... maybe it's just the fact that these agents are posing in front of his actual work instead of some Photoshopped image πŸ“Έ.

But you know what really gets me? The whole exhibition thing seems like a clever move by Kapoor to get people talking. I mean, who needs an explanation when you can just create something that makes us question what's art and what's not? Genius or narcissistic genius, either way... πŸ€“

You know I've seen some crazy stuff in my time, but this one takes the cake 🍰. Artists like Anish Kapoor are just trying to showcase their talents and bring some culture to our lives, and then we have border patrol agents posing with his sculpture and calling it "fascist America"? It's just plain weird, and a bit sad, really πŸ˜”. I mean, what's next? Are they gonna start using Picasso's Guernica as a prop for their coffee breaks? 🀣. But seriously, Kapoor seems like a reasonable guy who's just trying to protect his art, and if that means taking them to court, so be it πŸ’Ό.

omg u wont believe whats goin on w/ Anish Kapoor!!! so these border patrol agents r takin selfies w/ his cloud gate sculpture and lablin it like its a rep of "fascist america" lol i no its super racist and insensitive but like, what can u do? kapoor's all like "idk bout dis" and is thinkin about suing them but idk if he'll actually go thru w/ it. the thing is, these agents r celebratin after raidin people's homes and families... thats not funny at all. anyway, kapoor's got a new exhibit comin up @ the hayward gallery and its supposed to b all emotional and art-y. cant wait 2 c it!!!

omg u wont believe what just happened to anish kapoor 🀯 his sculpture cloud gate was used by border patrol agents to represent "fascist america" idk man who does that lol the guy took it really seriously tho apparently he's thinkin of lawsuitin the agents and maybe even the national rifle association again πŸ€‘ anyway he's got a new exhibition comin up at the hayward gallery which looks kinda cool i guess

can u imagine seeing ur artwork being used as a symbol for something so messed up? Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate sculpture was meant to be a celebration of community & inclusivity, but these border patrol agents turned it into a propaganda tool to represent "fascist America" 🀯😱 what's next? πŸ™„ their actions are literally arresting people & dehumanizing them & now they're using art as a way to intimidate & control the narrative? it's like they think they can just co-opt our culture & use it against us πŸ’” anyway, Kapoor is considering taking action & I think he should go after these agents too - the hypocrisy is real πŸ˜’

omg u guys i cant even ... so anish kapoor is thinking of suing those border patrol agents who posed with his sculpture as "fascist america" idk why they felt the need to do that but like, its not worth it tbh Kaplan would've already dealt with this after the NRA ad incident but still. on a more positive note i'm super hyped for the new exhibition at the hayward gallery ! cant wait to see mount moriah at the gate of the ghetto in person 🀯🎨 i mean, kapoor is all about evoking emotions and making people question what art is so i can def get behind that πŸ’–

I don't get why these agents gotta be so dramatic πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... like, they're posing in front of Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate thingy and suddenly it's "fascist America"? I mean, come on! It's just a sculpture, you know? Kapoor was already all upset about something with the NRA, but this just takes the cake 🍰. And now he's thinking of suing them again... I don't blame him, though. The agents were basically using it as some kinda propaganda tool 🚫. But Anish should know that art is subjective, you feel? Like, what's going to make people question what's "art" if they're just gonna use someone else's work for their own agenda? Anyway, I'm hyped for the new exhibition at the Hayward Gallery - Kapoor's works are always thought-provoking πŸ’‘.

omg u guys i just cant even I was talking to my friend who lives in chicago and she told me about this like what's going on with anish kapoor and these border patrol agents posing with his sculpture its literally insane they're saying it represents fascist america lol like um isnt that kinda the opposite of whats happening right now in america where we're trying to be more inclusive and stuff anyway Kapoor is thinking of suing them which is pretty cool I guess because at least someone's taking a stand but also can you even imagine how hard this must be for him knowing that his art was being used like that and all the drama around it is just making me want to go see the exhibition more now lol 40 works by kapoor including two new pieces at the hayward gallery sounds amazing btw

🀣 Can you imagine getting so bent out of shape over some border patrol agents posing in front of your sculpture? I mean, come on Anish Kapoor, it's just a statue... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I get that you're passionate about art and all, but "fascist America" is just dramatic. 🎨 It's like they took your work and turned it into a meme. 🀣 Still, if he's gonna sue over it, I guess his sculpture will have its 15 minutes of fame... or at least in court. πŸ˜‚
