Taulupe Faletau: Number eight ruled out of first three Wales games in Six Nations

Wales' hopes of a successful Six Nations campaign have taken an early hit with the news that Taulupe Faletau, their key number eight, is ruled out for the first three games. The 35-year-old suffered a calf injury while playing for Cardiff against Ospreys on January 1.

The injury comes at a bad time for Faletau, who had recently returned from a knee injury which kept him out of Wales' autumn internationals. With the tournament set to kick off in late February, it seems unlikely that he will be back in contention by then.

Cardiff coach Corniel van Zyl has been open about the team's injury situation, stating that they are aiming for Faletau to return around the middle of the Six Nations, with the visit from Leinster on 27 February potentially being his first game back. However, this is now looking increasingly unlikely given the current timeline.

Wales head coach Steve Tandy will name his squad in early January, but he is already missing several key players due to injury, including captain Jac Morgan and Gloucester centre Max Llewellyn. Aaron Wainwright, Olly Cracknell, and Taine Plumtree were among the options considered for the autumn series, while Ross Moriarty may also return as an option at number eight.

For now, Faletau's injury casts a shadow over Wales' chances of a successful tournament. With the team facing stiff competition from England, France, and Scotland, it is unclear how they will adapt without their key midfielder.

OMG, this is not what we needed! 😱 Faletau was gonna be the X-factor in the midfield for them... now with him out, I'm not sure how they're gonna manage the tackles and turnovers. They need a strong number 8 to dictate the pace of the game, but it looks like that's gonna be a major issue. Can't say I blame Faletau though, 35 and still playing at this level is impressive... now if only he could get back on the pitch in time for the Leinster game 🀞

πŸ€• I'm really bummed for Wales fans right now... Taulupe Faletau was like their best bet at number eight 🀯 And to have him go down with a calf injury just when he's getting back from his knee issue is super frustrating πŸ˜’ The fact that they're having to rely on younger players like Ross Moriarty and Aaron Wainwright to fill the gap is gonna be tough πŸ€” They need their experience and skills in midfield if they wanna take on England, France, and Scotland πŸ’ͺ It's gonna be a real challenge for Wales without Faletau...

Ugh πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, this is bad news for Wales - they really need Taulupe Faletau on the field right now! πŸ‰ With him out for the first three games, it's gonna be tough for them to get a good start in the Six Nations. πŸ€” I mean, who are these other guys they're counting on? Aaron Wainwright and Olly Cracknell will have to step up their game if they wanna fill the void left by Faletau. πŸ’ͺ But seriously, it's like, what were the teams doing before the tournament even started? Shouldn't there be some kind of injury protocol in place? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Anyway, fingers crossed for Wales and I hope Faletau makes a speedy recovery! πŸ‘

Oh man 😩... Taulupe Faletau is OUT for 3 games? That's like, super bad timing! He just got back from a knee injury too, so he needs some time to get ready πŸ€•. I was hyped about Wales' chances this Six Nations, but now I don't know if they can make it happen πŸ€”. They're gonna need to scramble for another number eight, maybe Ross Moriarty or someone else? That's gonna be tough πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And with England, France, and Scotland all looking strong, Wales are in trouble πŸ‰...

πŸ˜• I think this is a huge blow for Wales, especially with the Six Nations just around the corner. They're already missing some big names like Morgan and Llewellyn, so losing Faletau on top of that is not what they needed. The team's depth is going to be tested, and it's hard to see them competing with England, France, and Scotland without their best player. πŸ’”

awww man, this is bad news for wales... they need faletau to be 100% for those key games against england & france πŸ€•. leinster's gonna crush 'em anyway though πŸ˜‚. i think van zyl should've been more careful with their squad selection back in the autumn πŸ™„. hopefully ross moriarty can step up at number 8, but wales are gonna struggle without faletau 🌎. still got some faith in tandy tho, they'll get it together πŸ’ͺ.

and btw, when's the next six nations? i wanna watch more rugby πŸ‰πŸ˜

can't believe this is happening to wales... so early in the campaign 😩. gotta wonder if they were gonna make it far in the tournament anyway πŸ€”. still a huge fan of faletau tho πŸ™Œ, his comeback story was inspiring! πŸ’ͺ

omg what bad timing for wales!! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ faletau is like their best number 8 ever and now he's out for 3 games πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ i feel bad for corniel van zyl, cardiff coach has to deal with all this injury drama 😩 hopefully he can get faletau back by march tho πŸ’¨ that would be a huge boost for wales' chances in the six nations 🀞

πŸ€• This is like when life gives you lemons πŸ‹... but they're not even ripe yet! 😩 Taulupe Faletau's injury is a tough break for Wales, and I feel for the team right now. But here's the thing – sometimes, it takes setbacks to make us appreciate what we have in the first place. Injuries can be frustrating, but they also give us an opportunity to reassess our priorities and find new solutions.

Just think about it: if Faletau were playing in every game, would he be fully invested in the team's success? Or is there a chance that he'd get complacent and lose his edge? πŸ’ͺ Let's hope that by the time he returns, Wales will have figured out some ways to adapt without him. After all, life is about finding a way forward even when the path ahead seems uncertain. 🌟

Ugh πŸ€• I'm getting worried about Wales in the Six Nations... Faletau was like their rock at number eight, can't imagine losing him for 3 games already. Knee injury he had last year kinda threw me off too, but you never know when you'll get hurt again πŸ’”. And now this calf injury, it's like the universe is conspiring against them πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. They need their top players back ASAP or they're gonna get left behind in the tournament. I'm not counting out England, France, and Scotland just yet... that Welsh squad better step up their game ⚽️

😞 The thought of Taulupe Faletau sitting out the first three games of the Six Nations is a tough pill to swallow for Welsh rugby fans. He's such an experienced player and always brings a lot of energy to the team. It's not ideal that he's already dealing with another injury, especially after coming back from his knee issue. The fact that Cardiff coach Corniel van Zyl had high hopes for Faletau returning by mid-tournament now seems so unlikely... 🀞

omg this is so bad for wales πŸ€•! taulupe faletau is like the heart of their midfield, you know? he's always the one who gets the team going forward πŸ’ͺ. and now he's out with a calf injury and they're already struggling to name a new number 8 😩. it's gonna be tough for them to compete against england, france, and scotland πŸ‰πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¦.

i think steve tandy is gonna have a hard time naming that squad without faletau and all the other injured players 🀯. they need someone with his experience and skill to lead them forward, you know? πŸ’. hopefully he'll be back in contention by mid-six nations or something, but it's looking less and less likely 😞.

Ugh, can't believe this just happened πŸ€•... like Wales was already struggling to get back on track after the autumn series and now Taulupe Faletau goes down with another injury? This is like dΓ©jΓ  vu all over again 😩. I mean, I feel for Corniel van Zyl and the team trying to cope without their star number eight, but it's just not looking good right now πŸ€”. And what's the point of having a new squad name in early January if they're still gonna be dealing with injuries? It just puts more pressure on Steve Tandy to get his selection spot on... and I don't think we'll see much from Wales without Faletau's leadership πŸ’”.

πŸ˜• this is not good for wales... faletau is like a beast on the pitch and now he's out for 3 games? πŸ€• i hope corniel van zyl has a solid plan to get him back in time for the middle of six nations or it'll be tough for wales. they're gonna need someone with his skills to take on england, france, and scotland... πŸ‘Š meanwhile, wales have other injured players like jac morgan and max llewellyn... what's going on? πŸ€” i wish they'd give us some updates on the squad list in january so we can start making educated guesses about who might step up to fill faletau's role. πŸ“Š

πŸ€” Not good for Wales right now πŸ€•. Losin' Taulupe Faletau for those first three games is a huge blow πŸ’₯. He's like the engine of the team, you know? And comin' back from a knee injury just in time too πŸ‘€. I mean, Steve Tandy and Corniel van Zyl are tryin' to be positive about it all 🀞, but it's hard not to think that this could be a big set-back for 'em πŸ“‰. They're already missin' some key players with injuries... what if they don't get anyone back in time? πŸ•°οΈ The Six Nations is gonna be tough enough as it is 😬

πŸ€• oh noooo! taulupe faletau 🦏 is ruled out for 3 games and that's like, super bad timing 😩. he just came back from a knee injury too! i was really hoping to see him shine in the six nations ⚽️. cardiff coach corniel van zyl said maybe mid-six nations but now that seems so unlikely 🀞. wales gotta find another number 8 and it's gonna be tough without faletau πŸ’ͺ. they're already missing some key players so this is like, a major blow πŸ˜”. can't wait to see the squad announcement in jan tho! πŸ‘€

OMG, this is super unlucky for Wales 😩. Taulupe Faletau is such an important player for them and to have him out for the first three games is a big blow πŸ€•. I feel like they're already under pressure with all these injuries and now this calf injury just throws another wrench in their plans πŸ’”. It's gonna be tough for them to adapt without Faletau, especially against England, France, and Scotland - it's gonna be a really competitive tournament ⚽️!

πŸ€• Oh no, this doesn't bode well for Wales... I was really looking forward to watching Taulupe Faletau in action again πŸ‰β€β™‚οΈ He's always been such a vital part of the team and now with him out for three games it feels like there's a big hole that needs filling πŸ’” The team is already missing so many key players, it's starting to feel like they're playing short-handed 😬
