St. John’s erases 15-point deficit to top Seton Hall for fifth straight win in throwback performance

St. John's Mounts Stunning Comeback Against Seton Hall, Extends Winning Streak

In a game that felt eerily familiar, the Red Storm woke up from their slumber and staged an epic comeback against rival Seton Hall on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. Down by 15 points with 20 minutes left to play, St. John's reversed the deficit and emerged victorious, 65-60.

The Pirates had been dominating early, with Seton Hall scoring the first nine points of the second half. However, as they began to lose steam, St. John's suddenly snapped out of its doldrums. The Red Storm, now fueled by desperation, managed to claw their way back into the game, outscoring Seton Hall 33-13 over the final 15 minutes.

Dillon Mitchell led the charge for St. John's with an impressive 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Bryce Hopkins chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Dylan Darling also contributed eight points and three steals off the bench.

The turning point came when Mitchell gave his team the lead for good with just over four minutes remaining, and later added insurance with a steal and basket that sealed the win.

Despite trailing by as many as 15 early in the second half, St. John's managed to force 13 Seton Hall turnovers and hold the Pirates to just 28 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes. It was a masterclass defensive performance from the Red Storm, which allowed them to ride their momentum all the way to victory.

For Seton Hall, it was a night of frustration and missed opportunities. The Pirates were outrebounded by eight on the glass and committed an alarming 13 turnovers. Their offense also cooled significantly in the second half, with just four made three-pointers compared to six attempts.

The win extended St. John's winning streak to five games, marking their biggest comeback of the season. With this victory, they remain atop the Big East standings, and it was a testament to the team's resilience and ability to overcome adversity.

For Rick Pitino's Red Storm, this win marked another step towards redemption after a series of close losses earlier in the season. The coach celebrated an impressive team effort, saying: "I'm proud of our guys for sticking together and finding a way to get back in it."

As St. John's look to continue their winning ways, they'll need to rely on their newfound ability to bounce back from adversity if they hope to stay on top of the Big East standings.

🤯 What a game!! I'm loving how St. John's came back from 15 down 🔄 that's what wins championships right? Their team effort was amazing, and it's great to see them bouncing back from tough losses earlier in the season 🔥. Rick Pitino must be so proud of his guys for sticking together and finding a way to get back in it 🙌. The stats were insane - 33-13 run in the final 15 minutes? That's what separates champs from contenders 💪. Now they've got some momentum going into their next game, let's see if they can keep it up 🔜

lol just think about this diagram:

yeah so st john's was down by like whoooo 15 points but they didnt give up lol. then they just started playing super defense and outscoring seton hall 33-13 in the last 15 mins. its like a game of cat and mouse, seton hall is trying to get ahead but st john's keeps coming back
Dillon mitchell was on fire tho 17 points and 11 rebounds 🤯 he basically carried his team to victory. Bryce hopkins also chipped in with some clutch plays 🙌

🤔 this comeback is kinda like life itself - you never know when things are gonna take a dark turn, but it's how we respond that really matters... all that desperation and frustration can fuel us to become better versions of ourselves 🔄 it's a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there's always a spark within us waiting to be fanned into a flame 💡 and sometimes all it takes is one person (or team) to ignite that spark 🔥 so the question is, how will St. John's use this momentum to propel themselves forward 🚀?

🤯 I'm still trying to process how much of a difference a 15-point deficit can make in a game! Like, you gotta feel for Seton Hall - they had it all but fell apart, and then St John's just... didn't give up 🙅‍♂️. It's crazy how that turning point with Mitchell coming down the pipe completely flipped the script. And can we talk about the Red Storm's D for a sec? 13 turnovers from Seton Hall is insane! They were like, "Nope, we're gonna just take that away" 💪. St John's really showed their resilience and ability to adapt when things aren't going their way... it's been a wild ride watching them come back from those close losses 🔄.

man I gotta say that comeback by st john's was crazy 🤯 like they just gave up and then started playing like there was no tomorrow 😂 and Dillon Mitchell was straight fire 🔥 17 points and 11 rebounds? that's a double-double for days! but what really got me is how they were able to shut down seton hall's offense in the 2nd half. it was like st john's just turned up their defense overnight 🔄 and I'm not sure if I believe all this hype around their winning streak, seems like they've just been playing teams that aren't as tough as everyone says 👀
