‘Squid Game’ Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk Sets New Netflix Series ‘The Dealer,’ Starring Jung So-min

"Netflix Unveils 'The Dealer,' A New Korean Casino Thriller from Hwang Dong-hyuk"

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the visionary creator behind Netflix's global phenomenon "Squid Game," is back with a new series that delves into the dark world of casino gaming. "The Dealer" marks the directorial debut of celebrated cinematographer Choi Young-hwan and promises to be a gripping ride.

Set in the treacherous underworld of Korean casinos, the drama follows Geonhwa (Jung So-min), a skilled but repressed dealer who has spent years hiding her extraordinary abilities at gaming tables. As she navigates a complex web of deceit and manipulation, Geonhwa finds herself drawn back into a world she thought she'd left behind – one that's about to destroy everything she holds dear.

The series boasts an impressive cast, including Ryoo Seung-bum as the struggling gambler Hwang Chisu, Lee Soo-hyuk as the formidable casino competitor Jo Jun, and Ryu Kyung-soo as Geonhwa's seemingly gentle fiancé Choi Wooseung – a man with a hidden agenda.

With its unique blend of psychological thriller and high-stakes gaming, "The Dealer" is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of complex narratives and morally ambiguous characters. As the production team behind "Squid Game," Firstman Studio has proven themselves to be masters of crafting intricate storylines with unexpected twists – and this latest effort looks set to deliver.

Choi Young-hwan's cinematography, which has earned recognition for its dynamic visual work in genre films like "Smugglers" and "Veteran," will undoubtedly play a key role in bringing the dark, gritty world of casino gaming to life. With Hwang Dong-hyuk at the helm as producer, fans can expect another expertly crafted series from the mind behind one of Netflix's most iconic shows.

"The Dealer" is set to bring its own brand of tension and suspense to the world of streaming, and with its talented cast and crew, it's shaping up to be a must-watch for 2026.

omg i cant wait to watch this new series "The Dealer" on netflix!!! i loved hwang dong hyuk's work in "squid game" and the idea of a psychological thriller with high stakes gaming is giving me all the feels 😍🃏 i mean who doesnt love a good underdog story? geonhwa's character sounds so intriguing too, repressed dealer by day and mysterious woman by night lol. cant wait to see ryoo seung bum and lee soo hyuk bring their A-game to these roles 🤞📺

I'm excited about this new series but also kinda worried 🤔... I mean, we've already seen how "Squid Game" was able to tap into the darker aspects of human nature, so I'm curious to see if "The Dealer" will follow a similar path without getting too dark or exploitative. I love that Hwang Dong-hyuk is back at the helm as producer, he's got a great track record of creating complex characters and storylines.

At the same time, I think it's awesome that this series is focusing on the world of casino gaming - it's such an interesting and underrepresented topic 🃏. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the cinematography plays out, Choi Young-hwan did some amazing work on "Smugglers" and "Veteran".

Overall, I'm pretty stoked for this series but also a little nervous 😬... we'll just have to wait and see what it's all about!

🚨 just checked the box office stats for "The Squid Game" franchise 📊 and it's insane! The original series dropped in 2021 and already raked in $6.2 billion worldwide 🤑... and that's not even counting merch, streaming revenue, or licensing deals 🤯. Fast forward to 2025 and we're seeing a new show from the same creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, which is expected to bring in similar numbers 📈. The gaming genre has clearly struck gold for Netflix 🎮... did you know that "Fortnite" players spend an average of $50 per month? 💸 that's some serious cash being dropped on streaming shows 🤑

Anyway, let's talk about the stats behind "The Dealer". With its unique blend of psychological thriller and high-stakes gaming, this show is poised to become a hit 🔥. The cast is looking solid too - Jung So-min has already gained a following for her roles in "Reply 1988" and "Hotel Del Luna", while Ryoo Seung-bum's experience in dramas like "Kill Me, Heal Me" will surely bring depth to his character 🤔.

What I'm most excited about is the cinematography 🎥... Choi Young-hwan has a proven track record of delivering stunning visuals with films like "Smugglers" and "Veteran". His work on "The Dealer" will undoubtedly be a highlight of the show 🔒. Here's to another hit series from Hwang Dong-hyuk - I'm expecting 1 billion+ viewers by the end of 2026 📊
