Peter Gabriel Announces Slow-Burning New Album Release Schedule Ahead of 2026 Full Moon Calendar
After a two-decade hiatus between his last two albums of original material – 2002's Up and 2023's i/o – Peter Gabriel is finally gearing up to release new music. The British singer-songwriter has announced that his long-awaited new LP o/i will be released in stages, with a new song debuting every time there's a full moon until December 23.
The first single, "Been Undone," was released on January 3, accompanied by a work of art created by São Paulo-based artist Janaina Mello Landini. Gabriel has stated that the songs on o/i are a reflection of his thoughts and feelings about the future, particularly with regards to emerging technologies like AI and quantum computing.
"I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it," Gabriel said in a statement. "Artists have a role to look into the mists and, when they catch sight of something, to hold up a mirror." He also emphasized that as humans, we are part of nature, not independent beings with complete control over our world.
To accompany each song on o/i, Gabriel will pair it with a work of art, starting with Landini's Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome). The new album will be released every time there is a full moon until the Cold Moon appears in the night sky on December 23. Producers Mark 'Spike' Stent and Tchad Blake are also working on their own mixes of every song, titled the "Bright-Side Mix" and "Dark-Side Mix," respectively.
Gabriel has not yet announced a touring plan for o/i, which follows his arena tour of Europe and North America in support of i/o.
