OpenAI is piloting group conversations in ChatGPT

OpenAI has begun testing a new group chat feature within its popular ChatGPT platform. In Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan, users are now able to create conversations with friends, family, or colleagues, with ChatGPT serving as one of the participants.

The ability to engage in multi-person discussions is similar to those found in traditional messaging apps. Users can collaborate on various tasks, such as planning a vacation, renovating a home, or brainstorming business ideas. For instance, ChatGPT can assist in outlining reports by analyzing articles and notes provided by users.

To initiate a group chat, users tap the people icon at the top right corner of any conversation. When starting from an existing chat, ChatGPT creates a new conversation without retaining user history. Users then add participants or share a link to the group chat with up to 20 individuals, who must set up a profile before joining.

Notably, anyone with access to the link can invite others to join, and participants can mute or leave the chat except for the creator. Additionally, users under 18 will have sensitive content restricted by the chatbot automatically.

The responses in group chats are powered by GPT-5.1 Auto, a model that uses AI to choose the most suitable response based on the prompt. OpenAI claims it has taught the chatbot to adapt to the flow of conversations, allowing it to decide when to remain silent and when to contribute. Participants can summon ChatGPT by mentioning its name, "ChatGPT." The company plans to refine the feature through user feedback before a wider release.

Group chats are gonna change everything! I mean, think about it - we're already used to having long conversations with our loved ones and colleagues, but now we can actually collaborate on stuff while doing it ๐Ÿค. Planning a vacation or renovating a home? No more separate emails or messaging threads needed! And the AI chatbot's supposed to make it super helpful by analyzing articles and notes for you ๐Ÿ’ก. But I wonder if people are gonna get bored with just having a conversation with a bot... or if it's gonna be cool to have that extra brain in the room ๐Ÿค”

Omg I'm loving this new group chat feature on ChatGPT!!! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ’ฌ It's like having a virtual watercooler where you can hang out with friends and colleagues and just chill while getting stuff done ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ“ Like, I was thinking of planning a trip to Japan with my squad and now we can all be in the same chat and brainstorm together ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ The fact that ChatGPT can assist with tasks like outlining reports is super helpful too ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ’ก It's so cool that they're adapting the chatbot to flow with conversations... it makes sense that it would know when to chime in or just sit back and let others talk ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ‘

You know what's wild? I just got back from the most amazing weekend getaway to the beach ๐Ÿ–๏ธ. Had the best seafood and tried this new restaurant that serves the crispiest fish 'n' chips ever! ๐Ÿคค I was thinking, have you guys ever had one of those moments where everything just feels right? Like, the weather is perfect, your favorite food is on the menu, and all you want to do is chill with good company? ๐Ÿ˜Ž That's what I'm talking about. Anyway, back to this group chat feature... ๐Ÿค” it's kinda cool how they're using AI to help with tasks like outlining reports. I wonder if we'll see more of these kinds of features popping up in other messaging apps? ๐Ÿค–

omg u guyz! i just tried this new group chat feature on chatgpt and it's lowkey game changing ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‘ฅ!! it's so cool being able to brainstorm with friends or colleagues in real time, like we're literally sitting around the same table ๐Ÿ’ก. and omg the way it responds is insane, like it actually remembers what we talked about before ๐Ÿ˜‚. i was trying to plan a vacation with my squad and chatgpt helped us come up with the most lit itinerary ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ–๏ธ. can't wait for this feature to roll out globally tho!

๐Ÿค” what's next? group chats are gonna be EVERYWHERE. think about it, no more boring meetings or long online threads... just a bunch of chatty bots and humans spewing info left and right ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ฌ we gotta keep an eye on how this plays out tho. can you imagine some CEO trying to dictate the convo with their bot? ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿคฉ I'm low-key stoked about this new group chat feature on ChatGPT! Can you imagine having a virtual brainstorming session with friends or colleagues without leaving your laptop ๐Ÿ“Š? It's like, super convenient and fun! The fact that it's powered by GPT-5.1 Auto is mind-blowing - AI getting better at understanding human conversations all the time ๐Ÿค–. I also love how users can collaborate on tasks, like planning a trip or renovating a house ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ. It's gonna be awesome to see what kind of crazy ideas come out of these group chats! ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค” just thinkin... whats wrong with havin a group chat on chatgpt? people are always sayin its gonna change the world and stuff... but idk if i dont like that u gotta create a new convo every time u wanna collaborate with someone... feels kinda clunky ๐Ÿคฏ maybe they should jus keep it in the app or somethin ๐Ÿ“ฑ

๐Ÿค” think this new group chat feature is kinda limiting - i mean, if you're already having a convo with someone, just extend it as a one-on-one chat or make it a traditional messaging app instead. don't need 20 ppl on there messing up the flow... ๐Ÿ‘€ also not sure why anyone would want to invite random people into their convo... how do we know who's legit and who's just gonna spam the place? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This group chat feature is gonna be lit ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, who wouldn't want to brainstorm ideas or plan vacations with AI-powered chatbot? It's like having a super smart virtual assistant that can keep up with our conversations. But, I'm a bit curious about how it'll handle complex tasks like business strategy... will it just spit out generic answers or actually understand the context? Also, what's the deal with the 20-person limit? Can't we invite more people to join in on the convo?

Just saw that OpenAI's got a new group chat feature on ChatGPT ๐Ÿค–. I'm not sure if it's gonna change the way we communicate or just make our lives more complicated. On one hand, being able to collaborate with others and get ideas faster is pretty cool ๐Ÿ’ก. But on the other hand, having a chatbot in the middle of all that conversation might be weird ๐Ÿค”. I'm not sure if it's gonna work out in practice but I'm curious to see how people use it ๐Ÿ“Š.

This new group chat thingy on ChatGPT is gonna be HUGE! I mean, who doesn't love having conversations with friends and family while also getting some AI-powered help? ๐Ÿคฉ It's like, imagine planning a sick vacation or brainstorming business ideas with your squad and having ChatGPT chime in with some awesome suggestions. And the fact that it can adapt to the flow of the conversation is just genius ๐Ÿ’ก. I'm low-key hyped for this new feature, especially since it's getting refined through user feedback. Can't wait to see how it goes down! ๐Ÿ‘

I think this group chat thingy is gonna be super useful for us netizens ๐Ÿค! No more back-and-forth email threads or boring old messaging apps - we can just chill and discuss stuff with our friends and family in real-time ๐Ÿ˜Ž. I mean, who doesn't love having a virtual brainstorming session or planning a trip together? ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ But, gotta say, the fact that it's powered by AI makes me a lil' curious - how do they ensure that the chatbot doesn't get too carried away and dominate the convo ๐Ÿค”? And what about data security - are they keeping our convo history private or is it all stored somewhere ๐Ÿคซ? Anyways, can't wait to try it out and see how it goes! ๐Ÿ‘

OMG, I'm low-key obsessed with this new group chat feature ๐Ÿคฏ! Just think about all the possibilities - like having a convo with your squad while planning a trip ๐ŸŒด or collaborating on a project at work ๐Ÿ’ผ. The fact that ChatGPT can assist with outlining reports and analyzing articles is total game-changer ๐Ÿ“Š! And I love how users under 18 have sensitive content restricted automatically - parents, you're welcome ๐Ÿ˜Š!

But what's up with the max limit of 20 participants? Can't we just make a group chat for the whole family or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Also, why can't anyone invite others to join except the creator? That feels kinda restrictive ๐Ÿšซ. And what about the mute/leave feature - is that gonna be super easy to use? ๐Ÿค”

Anyway, I'm all for refining this feature through user feedback - OpenAI's all about listening and improving ๐Ÿ’ก! Bring on the updates and let's get this group chat party started ๐ŸŽ‰!

Stats:
- 70% of users expect more features in group chats
- 40% of users already use group chat apps for work collaborations
- The average user spends 2 hours a day on messaging apps ๐Ÿ“ฑ

I'm so not down on this new group chat thing ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ... In fact, I think it's gonna be super lame. Who needs another way to get bombarded with notifications and group messages from people who can't even be bothered to make time for a real convo? And what's up with the "create a conversation" button? Sounds like a bunch of corporate-speak for "let's all just agree on something and move forward"... Where's the fun in that?! ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” I'm not sure if this group chat feature is gonna be a game changer or just another distraction for users... Like, think about it - how often do we actually use traditional messaging apps to collaborate on stuff? ๐Ÿ“ I mean, yes, it's convenient that ChatGPT can help with tasks like outlining reports, but what about the actual human interaction and creativity that comes with having a real convo? ๐Ÿ’ฌ I'm worried that this feature is gonna make us all think we're doing more than we actually are... ๐Ÿ˜ Still, I guess it's cool that they're listening to user feedback and planning to refine it. And hey, if it helps people connect over some boring task, like planning a vacation, then I say, yay! ๐ŸŒด

๐Ÿค” you know what's wild about this new group chat thing on ChatGPT? it feels like we're getting closer to having these AI assistants as real-time collaborators... but is that really something we want? i mean, think about it - these bots are already changing the way we work and interact with each other. what happens when they start "adapting" their responses based on our habits and preferences? are we creating a culture of dependency on technology to facilitate human connection? ๐Ÿค– it's like, can we even trust that the AI is being used for good or if its just perpetuating the same patterns of behavior we're trying to change?

๐Ÿค” I think this new group chat feature on ChatGPT is super cool! ๐Ÿš€ It's like having a virtual discussion circle where you can bounce ideas off each other and collaborate on projects. The fact that ChatGPT can assist with tasks like outlining reports is a huge plus, as it takes the load off your own brain ๐Ÿ’ก.

But what I find really interesting is how OpenAI has designed the chatbot to adapt to conversations ๐Ÿค–. It's not just about spitting out generic responses; it can actually read between the lines and know when to chime in or keep quiet ๐Ÿ‘€. The whole thing feels pretty seamless, like having a human conversation buddy who's always up for an interesting discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ.

Of course, there are some caveats ๐Ÿค”. I'm not sure how well this feature will scale, especially with so many people joining the group chat at once ๐Ÿ“ˆ. And what about the potential for distractions or groupthink? But overall, I think OpenAI's got a winner on their hands ๐Ÿ‘. Can't wait to try it out and see where these virtual conversations take me! ๐Ÿ˜„

OMG u guys I was just thinking about trying out this new Pokรฉmon game ๐ŸŽฎ and how it's gonna be so cool to have like a virtual team of Pikachu & Squirtle ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‘ซ. I heard they're gonna have some crazy new features like augmented reality battles... anyway back to ChatGPT group chats, omg the fact that they can do multi-person discussions is kinda mind-blowing ๐Ÿ’ฅ I mean what if we could use it for planning a trip to Japan or something? ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ I heard OpenAI's chatbots are getting pretty good at understanding context & adapting to conversations... but I'm still skeptical about AI taking over the world ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿค–

just saw this new group chat thingy on ChatGPT ๐Ÿค”... i think it's pretty cool that you can have real-time conversations with friends and family without having to switch between different apps or tabs ๐Ÿ˜Š. but what really got me is how the AI part comes into play - I mean, who needs human judgment sometimes? just kidding lol. seriously though, i'm curious to see how this will help people collaborate on tasks and get things done faster ๐Ÿ“ˆ. openAI's doing some neat stuff with GPT-5.1 Auto... hoping it'll be stable and work smoothly for all users ๐Ÿคž.
