Nigeria, Egypt or Senegal: Who can spoil Morocco’s AFCON 2025 party?

"AFCON Semifinals: The Morocco Show Must Go On"

The stage is set for two mouthwatering ties in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinals, and the hosts Morocco are looking to make it count. With their unbeaten record since losing to South Africa at the last AFCON, Walid Regragui's side is confident of a spot in the final.

But they won't be easy opponents for Mohamed Salah's Egypt or Victor Osimhen's Nigeria, who remain in contention to win the trophy. The African powerhouse has been boosted by the return of injured captain Achraf Hakimi and winger Brahim Diaz, the tournament's top scorer so far with five goals in five games.

Despite facing pressure at home, Regragui insists that Morocco is the team to beat. "We're the team to beat. As the team to beat, people will try to find all sorts of reasons to say Morocco has an advantage," he said. The Atlas Lions' sole advantage, according to Regragui, is playing in front of a 65,000-strong crowd.

Meanwhile, Nigeria is seeking to improve on their performance over the last three weeks, which saw them score 14 goals and reach the semifinals for the second time since 2019. Their presence has made four out of five top-ranked African teams qualify for the semis, with Algeria being the exception after a shock loss to Senegal.

The other semifinal tie pits Egypt against Senegal in Tangier, a repeat of the 2022 final, which the Lions of Teranga won on penalties. Senegal is ranked second in Africa and stands one game away from a third final appearance in four editions. Mohamed Salah, who has scored four goals at the tournament, is determined to fire Egypt to a record-extending eighth title.

However, he knows that it won't be easy against their opponents. "We have very good players, but most play in Egypt. We have three players playing abroad, but all of them are in a difficult situation – none of them are playing for their clubs just now," Salah admitted. The pressure on the Pharaohs is mounting, and only time will tell if they can break their AFCON drought.

The stage is set for an exciting semifinal showdown between Morocco and Nigeria, with Egypt and Senegal following closely behind. Will the Atlas Lions' home advantage be enough to propel them to victory, or will their opponents spoil the party? Only one thing is certain – it's going to be a thrilling ride!

morocco's home crowd of 65k should give them an edge 🏠⚽️ but i think nigeria's squad depth could pose problems for morocco they've been scoring goals left and right, might just break through the atlas lions' defense 💪🔴

OMG u guyz 🤯🏆 Morocco's unbeaten record is nice n all but Egypt's Mohamed Salah is having a blast 🔥 he got 4 goals already & he's on fire 🔪 Nigeria's also lookin good w/ Achraf Hakimi back from injury 💪 so it's hard to predict who's gonna win 🤔

I'm still not convinced about this whole "Morocco show must go on" hype 🤔 Morocco's unbeaten record since South Africa beating them at AFCON last time is impressive, but so are Egypt and Nigeria. They've both had incredible tournament runs and have the skills to take down Morocco.

And let's be real, 65,000-strong crowd at home might just give Morocco an edge, but what if they choke under pressure? 😬 The Atlas Lions' sole advantage is playing in front of a packed stadium, which could also be their downfall. Nigeria has been scoring goals for fun lately and looks like the dark horse of this tournament.

I'm more intrigued by Egypt's squad situation 🤷‍♂️ Mohamed Salah and co are having to deal with some serious travel fatigue and pressure to win it all. If they can't overcome that, it might be a long night for the Pharaohs. This one's gonna be a battle, folks! 🔥

omg i'm so hyped for this semifinals!! morocco has been on fire since that loss to south africa and regragui's team confidence is at an all time high 🤩👑 they've got the home crowd advantage and brahim diaz is back in the mix - it's a different story now 💥 i'm rooting for them to make it to the final btw, can u imagine the atmosphere if they win? 😍 it's gonna be so intense against nigeria tho, that osimhen dude is a beast 🦁 salah and egypt need to step up their game if they wanna take down senegal tho, that final was so close in 2022 🤯 bring on tangier!! 🌟

I'm gonna say it, Morocco's got this! They've been on fire since that loss to South Africa and Regragui's squad is looking solid. I mean, who wouldn't want to play in front of 65k screaming fans? It's like they're feeding off the energy of the crowd. Nigeria's definitely a threat too, but Morocco's got some serious firepower with Hakimi and Diaz back on the field.

And let's be real, Egypt's just getting started. Salah's gonna light it up, mark my words! He's been quiet so far, but I can tell he's itching to break that AFCON drought. Senegal's a dark horse too - they're looking fierce and I wouldn't count them out just yet.

I'm predicting an Atlas Lions win, though. They've got the momentum on their side and Regragui's squad is ready for this moment. Bring it on!

🤔 The biggest challenge for Morocco is not just facing their opponents, but also handling the pressure of playing in front of 65,000-strong crowd at home. They need to stay focused and composed under that kind of energy. 🏟️ It's going to be a tough semifinal showdown between them and Nigeria, but I think Morocco's unbeaten record will give them an edge over their opponents. 🔥 As for Egypt and Senegal, both teams have good players but they're struggling with key players missing due to injuries or other issues. It'll be interesting to see how they perform under that pressure. 😬

I'm lovin this AFCON vibe 🌴🏈 Morocco's got the momentum, but Egypt's squad is stacked with talent. Mohamed Salah's gonna light up that pitch 💥 and Nigeria's been on fire lately 🔥. Regragui says home advantage matters? I think it's all about who shows up on game day 🕰️. Can't wait for these ties to go down! 🎉

Morocco is defo gonna crush it at AFCON 🚀🇲🇦. They've got an unbeaten record and are playing in front of their huge home crowd, which should give them that extra edge. The other teams are all strong contenders, but Morocco's squad looks solid with Achraf Hakimi back from injury. Nigeria is looking to improve on their performance too, and Egypt's got Mohamed Salah, who's always a threat on the pitch 🤯. This is gonna be an epic semifinal showdown! 🏆

OMG 🤩 I'm so hyped for this AFCON semis!!! Morocco's unbeaten record since South Africa beat them at the last tournament has got me thinking they're gonna crush it 😎 They've got that home advantage, which is huge. Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Diaz are back in the mix, and they're on fire 🔥! But Nigeria's not gonna be easy to beat either 🤯. They're on a roll, scoring 14 goals in three weeks, and Osimhen's got some serious skills 💪. I'm loving this semifinal matchup – it's gonna be an epic battle between the Atlas Lions and Super Eagles 🦅👊

omg I'm so hyped for the afcon semifinals 🤩!! Morocco is looking super confident with that unbeaten record and achraf hakimi back in the mix, but nigeria is still a strong contender too 😬. I feel bad for mohamed salah tho, his team pharaohs are under so much pressure to win after all these years 💔. Egypt has some amazing players but it's tough when most of them play abroad 🤔. what do u think will be the deciding factor in this semifinal showdown? 🤝

man... those teams are gonna give it their all 🤯 i mean, morocco's been on fire lately and nigeria's got some serious firepower too... but at the end of the day, it's all about who can stay calm under pressure 🕳️. africa cup of nations is always crazy, and these semifinals are shaping up to be epic 😃. let's see how the pharaohs' squad comes together - with salah & company having some major chemistry issues 🤝... i'm thinking nigeria might just take it to morocco 🏆💪

😒 Morroco thinks they got this one in the bag but Egypt and Nigeria are about to give them a run for their money 🏆. Those teams have been on fire lately scoring 14 goals in three games... meanwhile Morocco just managed 3.5 goals per game 🤦‍♂️. And lets not forget Achraf Hakimi's return from injury, but what if he gets injured again? 🤕. Nigeria is looking to take the pressure off Egypt and make a deep run in the tournament. This one is gonna be a real nail-biter! 😬

omg i'm so hyped for this afcon semifinals 😆 morocco's unbeaten record since south africa beat them is insane!!! i think brahim diaz is gonna tear it up on the pitch 🤯 and achraf hakimi coming back from injury gives morocco a huge boost ⚽️ but nigeria is looking strong too, especially with mohamed salah on fire 🔥🔥🔥 i'm rooting for egypt to break their afcon drought, they've been so close for years 🙏 but senegal's got some great players too, it's gonna be a tough semifinal showdown 🤯

OMG 🤩 I'm so hyped for Morocco vs Nigeria!!! They're like my ultimate faves 😍 and I've been rooting for them since day 1. Regragui is right, playing in front of those crazy fans will give them the extra boost they need to win 💪. And can you believe Achraf Hakimi is back?! 🙌 He's like the key to unlocking their success. My money's on Morocco taking it all the way! 🏆🔴
