Newcastle vs Aston Villa: Eddie Howe out to 'upset the status quo'

Newcastle United's manager Eddie Howe has expressed his belief that the team can achieve "great things" despite the financial constraints imposed on them by Premier League rules. This comes as the Magpies face off against third-placed Aston Villa at St James' Park, with a win potentially propelling them into fourth place if results elsewhere go their way.

Howe acknowledges that clubs who spend more on wages have traditionally been those that pick up the most points per game, but he's determined to defy this trend. Newcastle and Villa, however, are bucking this trend, with the eighth and sixth-biggest salary bills in the top flight respectively.

The Magpies' wage bill is significantly lower than that of their rivals, yet they've still managed to qualify for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025, and Aston Villa followed suit last year. Both teams are looking to do so again this season.

Newcastle's manager attributes his team's success to a different mindset: "We have got to think differently and find ways to still win games to upset the status quo and finish as high as we can." He believes that football is won on the pitch, not with money.

However, there are concerns about Newcastle's revenue streams. According to financial firm Deloitte, Liverpool generated ยฃ367m more in revenue than Newcastle last season. Howe recognizes that building their revenues will be key to their success.

Despite these challenges, Eddie Howe remains optimistic: "We believe we can still achieve great things - regardless of what financial restrictions there are on us." The Magpies' journey ahead promises to be an exciting and unpredictable ride.

omg i think eddie howe is literally the coolest ๐Ÿคฉ he's not worried about the finances and that's a big deal for me, like, who can afford a football team nowadays? ๐Ÿ˜‚ i mean, we have our own struggles in life but at least we don't have to worry about like, paying players ยฃ100k a week ๐Ÿค‘ my sis works 2 jobs just to make ends meet and it's not even close to what those players are getting. anyhoo, howe's got this, i believe him ๐Ÿ’ฏ he's all about winning on the pitch and that's something we can all get behind. plus, it's so inspiring to see underdogs like newcastle and villa doing their thing ๐Ÿค i'm rooting for them all the way! ๐Ÿ‘

I think it's really cool that Eddie Howe is trying to buck the trend of teams buying their way to success. It just goes to show that with the right mindset and a bit of creativity, you can achieve great things without breaking the bank ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’ช. I mean, have you seen how much Newcastle has been able to achieve despite having one of the lower wage bills in the league? They've still managed to qualify for the Champions League not once but twice! That's just incredible ๐Ÿคฏ. And let's be real, it's about time someone showed the Premier League that you don't have to spend a fortune to be competitive โšฝ๏ธ. Of course, building revenue streams is key, but I love how Howe is focusing on finding ways to win games and upset the status quo. That's what being a top team is all about ๐Ÿ†.

๐Ÿค” it's crazy how much money affects the game, but at the end of the day it's about who shows up most ready to play ๐Ÿ’ช. We see teams spending a fortune and still losing games because they're not mentally prepared, meanwhile Newcastle is breaking the mold and finding ways to succeed on a shoestring budget ๐Ÿ“‰. It's all about attitude and being willing to think outside the box. We can learn from their determination and resilience - life isn't always fair, but how we respond to challenges is what truly matters ๐Ÿ’ก

I mean think about it ๐Ÿค”... this whole situation is a perfect example of the old adage "you can't buy class" ๐Ÿ’ผ. Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, is literally trying to defy the trend where richer clubs have more success on the pitch. But what's interesting is that he's not just talking the talk, he's walking the walk too ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I think this shows that even in a league like the Premier League, where money plays a big role, there are still some teams that can buck the trend and succeed without breaking the bank ๐Ÿ’ธ. It's almost like they're saying, "we don't need all that cash to be successful" ๐Ÿ’ช.

But let's not forget, this is still a business at the end of the day ๐Ÿ“Š. The fact that Liverpool generated ยฃ367m more in revenue than Newcastle last season says it all ๐Ÿค‘. So yeah, I think it's great that Eddie Howe is optimistic, but we need to see some tangible results on the pitch and at the box office too ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ.

I'm getting that old-school feeling from this story ๐Ÿ˜Š. Remember when teams like Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United used to defy the financial norms and still do really well? Yeah, I wish they had more wiggle room in the Premier League. Still, it's great to see Newcastle giving Aston Villa a run for their money.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but it seems like teams are more focused on developing young talent now instead of splashing out on big-name players. Like when Roberto Martinez was at Wigan Athletic โ€“ they didn't have the most explosive squad, but they still managed to finish top-flight regularly. Maybe that's the key? ๐Ÿค”

You know I love a good underdog story ๐Ÿ’ก! Newcastle United is totally showing us that you don't need a gazillion quid to be a top-tier team ๐Ÿค‘. Eddie Howe's right, it's all about thinking differently and winning on the pitch ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Those financial constraints are definitely a challenge, but I think they're also an opportunity for them to get creative and find new ways to generate revenue ๐Ÿ“ˆ. And let's be real, Liverpool's got some serious financial muscle ๐Ÿ’ธ - Newcastle can still hold their own! ๐Ÿ˜ It's all about staying focused and believing in themselves. That positivity is gonna take 'em a long way ๐Ÿ”œ

I'm loving how Newcastle United's manager Eddie Howe is trying to defy the norm when it comes to spending on wages. Like, if you don't spend a ton of money, can't you still have success? It makes sense that they're bucking the trend and doing their own thing.

But at the same time, I do worry about Newcastle's revenue streams. If Liverpool is making like ยฃ367m more in revenue than them last season, that's a lot to catch up on! How will they do it?

I think what I love most about Howe's attitude though is his "we just gotta think differently" vibe. Like, he believes that football is won on the pitch, not with money, and I think that's so true. Maybe if everyone thought like him, we'd have more parity in the league?

What do you guys think? Can a team like Newcastle still achieve great things without breaking the bank? ๐Ÿค”

idk about this eddie howe guy, he's always talking about thinking differently and all that jazz, but like, come on, we've seen it before... teams with smaller wage bills do struggle to compete, especially in the top flight ๐Ÿค‘. i mean, don't get me wrong, the magpies have been surprising us lately, but lets not forget, they're still a relatively small club compared to the likes of man city or liverpool ๐Ÿ’ธ. howe's got to be realistic here, we need to see some tangible results before we can start talking about achieving "great things" ๐Ÿ†. and yeah, building revenue streams is key, but what's the plan for that? more sponsor deals? merch sales? it's all well and good until they actually execute on it ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” think eddie howe's got a good point about focusing on the pitch rather than just throwing loads of cash at it. ppl say money can't buy you success, but in this case, Newcastle & Villa are defying that trend ๐Ÿค‘. it's all about mindset & strategy now ๐Ÿ’ก. still concerned about Newcastle's revenue streams tho ๐Ÿ“Š, gotta get those $$$ flowing in to compete with the big boys ๐Ÿ”ด. but hey, if they can keep pushing for top 4 and making a deep run in the Champions League like last year ๐Ÿ†, they might just surprise everyone! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I'm low-key impressed with Newcastle's financial management tbh ๐Ÿค”. They're breaking the mold of spending big to win, which is pretty refreshing!

Here's a stats dump for u:

* Premier League teams that spend most on wages:
- Manchester City (ยฃ144m/yr)
- Liverpool (ยฃ133m/yr)
- Chelsea (ยฃ129m/yr)

But look at Newcastle & Villa! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ They're bucking the trend with a combined wage bill of ยฃ70m/yr. That's a whopping ยฃ74m less than the big spenders!

And don't even get me started on revenue streams ๐Ÿ˜…. Liverpool made ยฃ367m more in revenue than Newcastle last season! But, Deloitte says Newcastle are growing their revenues by 10% YoY ๐Ÿ“ˆ.

Here's some more stats:

* Total Premier League TV rights: ยฃ5.8bn (2023-24)
* Average Premier League attendance: 38,414
* Newcastle's average home attendance: 52,011

Let's see how the Magpies do against Villa this weekend! ๐Ÿ†

oh my gosh i just love eddie howe's attitude ๐Ÿคฉ he's so right that it's not just about the money, it's about winning on the pitch ๐Ÿ’ช and finding ways to outsmart the system ๐Ÿค” Newcastle is doing so cool defying all odds and still managing to compete with those top teams ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ i'm literally rooting for them to do great things this season ๐Ÿ’ซ
