L’Oréal USA Honors Diverse Group of 2025 Women in Science Awardees
In a celebration of female excellence and scientific innovation, L'Oréal Groupe hosted an evening event to recognize the 2025 L'Oréal USA For Women in Science awardees. Since its inception in 2003, the program has presented over $5 million in grants to support hundreds of women researchers in STEM fields.
The US program is part of a global initiative by L'Oréal-UNESCO, which aims to address the underrepresentation of women in science. According to UNESCO, only one-third of the world's scientific researchers are female. The For Women in Science initiative seeks to raise this number by inspiring more women to pursue careers across various scientific disciplines.
This year, five talented individuals have been selected for the prestigious award: Kaveeta Kaw from Emory University, studying pulmonary arterial hypertension; Kaitlyn A. Webster from Harvard Medical School, exploring reproductive biology in Mexican tetra fish; Rebecka J. Sepela from Harvard University, investigating animal chemical receptors; Georgia Squyres from California Institute of Technology, researching biofilm communities and antibiotic resistance; and Sydney Aten from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, examining the body's internal clock and its effects on female fertility.
To share their remarkable stories with a wider audience, Vox Media Creative will premiere five short documentaries profiling each recipient and their groundbreaking work. The event serves as a testament to the impact of these women in shaping our understanding of the world through scientific inquiry.
Now, applications for the 2026 For Women in Science grants are open, offering support to talented researchers like those featured this year. As L'Oréal-UNESCO continues to inspire and empower women in science, its commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse scientific community remains unwavering.
