Meet the 2025 L’Oréal USA For Women in Science Awardees

L’Oréal USA Honors Diverse Group of 2025 Women in Science Awardees

In a celebration of female excellence and scientific innovation, L'Oréal Groupe hosted an evening event to recognize the 2025 L'Oréal USA For Women in Science awardees. Since its inception in 2003, the program has presented over $5 million in grants to support hundreds of women researchers in STEM fields.

The US program is part of a global initiative by L'Oréal-UNESCO, which aims to address the underrepresentation of women in science. According to UNESCO, only one-third of the world's scientific researchers are female. The For Women in Science initiative seeks to raise this number by inspiring more women to pursue careers across various scientific disciplines.

This year, five talented individuals have been selected for the prestigious award: Kaveeta Kaw from Emory University, studying pulmonary arterial hypertension; Kaitlyn A. Webster from Harvard Medical School, exploring reproductive biology in Mexican tetra fish; Rebecka J. Sepela from Harvard University, investigating animal chemical receptors; Georgia Squyres from California Institute of Technology, researching biofilm communities and antibiotic resistance; and Sydney Aten from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, examining the body's internal clock and its effects on female fertility.

To share their remarkable stories with a wider audience, Vox Media Creative will premiere five short documentaries profiling each recipient and their groundbreaking work. The event serves as a testament to the impact of these women in shaping our understanding of the world through scientific inquiry.

Now, applications for the 2026 For Women in Science grants are open, offering support to talented researchers like those featured this year. As L'Oréal-UNESCO continues to inspire and empower women in science, its commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse scientific community remains unwavering.

I mean, who doesn't love a good underdog story? 😊 Five talented individuals, all doing something unique and groundbreaking, are totally deserving of this honor. And let's be real, the world could use more women in science, right? 🌎 Only one-third of researchers are female - that's just not fair! 💁‍♀️ But I'm so grateful for initiatives like this that aim to change that. It's all about empowering each other and creating a more inclusive community. Plus, those short documentaries on Vox Media Creative? Can't wait to check them out! 📺

I'm so stoked about the L'Oréal USA For Women in Science awardees for 2025! 🙌 These women are totally crushing it in STEM fields and breaking down barriers for future generations of female scientists. It's amazing to see them getting the recognition they deserve, especially since the program has been around since 2003 - that's like, a whole decade of empowering women in science! 💪 The fact that there are only one-third female researchers globally is still crazy sad, but initiatives like this show we're moving in the right direction. Can't wait to see the documentaries profiling these talented individuals and learn more about their groundbreaking work! 📺

Yooo, can't believe these 5 women scientists just got their hands on some serious grant $$$ 🤑💸. Pulmonary arterial hypertension, reproductive biology, animal chemical receptors... it's like they're solving all the world's mysteries one lab at a time 🔬💡! What I love about this program is that it's not just about recognition, but actual funding to help these women change the game in STEM fields 📈💪. It's time we get more females in science and break down those glass ceilings (or should I say, lab goggles?) 🕶️🔬! Can't wait to see what these talented ladies come up with next 👩‍🔬💡

ugh another year another bunch of smart women getting recognized for what they're already doing lol 🤣 i mean seriously though these five awardees are literally changing the game in their respective fields like who else is studying biofilm communities and antibiotic resistance? 🎉 kudos to L'oreal for backing them all the way 💸
