Leeds receive permission to redevelop and lift capacity of Elland Road

Leeds United has secured planning permission to redevelop Elland Road stadium, paving the way for a major expansion of the ground's capacity. The move will see the stadium's current 37,645 capacity increased by nearly 40% to around 53,000.

The club had faced concerns over traffic congestion around the stadium on matchdays, but Leeds United have submitted plans to alleviate these issues, including partnering with the city council to fund road improvements and encouraging supporters to park further away from the ground. The proposal appears to have been well-received by planners, who have now approved the project.

The expansion of Elland Road will involve the construction of a new upper tier in the John Charles stand, increasing its capacity from 8,000 to 17,750. Work on this phase is set to begin shortly, with major construction expected to start at the end of the current season. The Don Revie stand will also be expanded from 10,414 seats to a maximum of 15,300.

The news has been welcomed by Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe, who described the decision as "a historic day for the club". He stated that the stadium's expansion is key to the club's ambition to establish itself in the Premier League and continue growing in the years ahead. With the project now greenlit, fans on the club's waiting list for season tickets can look forward to increased capacity at their beloved Elland Road stadium.

Can you imagine walking into an Elland Road matchday with 53k people screaming your head off 🀯 it'll be a whole new energy! The main concern always was that Ellie'd get gridlocked, and I think the club's done a good job to sort that out by partnering with the council. Parking further away will definitely help with that. Now we can look forward to more games at Ellie without worrying about traffic jams πŸš—πŸ’¨

I'm so hyped about this news 🀩! Leeds United is gonna have one of the biggest stadiums in England and it's all thanks to some clever planning πŸ“ˆ. I mean, 40% increase in capacity is massive, especially with new improvements like better road access and parking options for fans. It's a win-win for everyone - more seats means more fans can enjoy the matchday experience, and the club can finally start to reach its Premier League ambitions πŸ’ͺ. I've been following Leeds United for years and it's amazing to see the progress they're making. The new John Charles stand is gonna be insane, especially with that upper tier 🎟️! Bring on the new season and more Elland Road action ⚽️!

Man I'm so stoked they finally got planning permission for this massive expansion of Elland Road πŸŽ‰! I mean 53k seats is insane, it'll be like one of the biggest stadiums in the league! The plans sound solid too, especially the part about partnering with the city council to fix traffic issues. That's just good sense, ya know? Paraag Marathe seems legit too, I love that he's hyping up the club's ambitions. Now let's hope they can get it done ASAP and we're racking up those Premier League points πŸ”₯

Ugh, I'm so excited for Leeds United but also kinda sad for the old Elland Road πŸ˜”. I mean, it's crazy that they're expanding the stadium by nearly 40%! It's like, I get it, a bigger capacity is awesome for more fans to enjoy matches, but can't we just keep some of the nostalgia? Like, what's gonna happen to the old seats and the history behind 'em? πŸ€”

But, at the same time, I'm all about progress! It's cool that they're addressing those traffic concerns and making sure the new expansion doesn't lead to chaos. And, let's be real, 53,000 fans is no joke πŸ€‘! The club's ambition to make it in the Premier League is definitely a step in the right direction.

Can't wait to see the new John Charles stand 🏒, though! It's gonna look so sick!

🏟️ I think it's awesome that Leeds United is getting a major revamp of their stadium! 40% more capacity is huge - they're gonna be buzzing on matchdays now 😊. The traffic congestion was a big concern, but if they can figure out ways to manage it (parking further away, y'know?), I'm sure fans will be stoked πŸ™Œ. Can't wait to see the new upper tier in the John Charles stand and the Don Revie expansion - gonna make Elland Road an even more electric atmosphere πŸ”₯!

Just saw this news about Leeds United getting planning permission for their new stadium expansion 🀩... gotta say, it's about time! I've been following that team since I was a kid and now they're finally getting the chance to upgrade their ground to match the rest of the Premier League. The new capacity is gonna be insane - 53k seats? That's crazy talk! πŸ˜‚ Traffic congestion was always a major issue at Elland Road, so I'm glad the club has come up with some creative solutions to alleviate that problem. Can't wait to see the construction start and get my hands on those season tickets 🎟️... it's gonna be a wild ride for Leeds United fans! πŸ˜ƒ

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s bloody brilliant news 🀩! 53k seats is gonna make Elland Road one of the best stadiums in the country, no question. The plans to ease traffic congestion are a great touch too, shows they actually care about the fans and the community. I mean, can you imagine how much it'll be worth when they do finally get promoted to the Premier League? It's gonna be a wild ride for the club and their fans! πŸš€πŸ‘

I'm totally opposed to this massive expansion πŸ™„. I mean, think about it - more people coming and going from that place every matchday is just gonna cause more traffic jams & parking nightmares... it's not like Leeds United has a good track record of handling the chaos already πŸ˜’. And what about all the fans who don't wanna shell out extra cash for season tickets? They're already on the waiting list, so increasing capacity is just gonna leave them high and dry πŸ€‘. Not to mention, have they even thought about the environmental impact of all this new construction & the added strain it'll put on the city's infrastructure? πŸ€”

🏟️ just saw that Leeds United got planning permission to expand their stadium by 40% 🀩 it's amazing how this is going to boost their chances of staying in the Premier League πŸ’ͺ paraag marathe seems pretty happy about it too 😊 and honestly who can blame him? a bigger stadium means more revenue and better fans experience 🎟️ but also hope they sort out traffic issues around there so we don't end up stuck on the road during matches πŸš—πŸ‘
