Islanders spoil Wild homecoming with OT win

Minnesota Wild's homecoming party spoiled by Islanders in overtime thriller

The New York Islanders dealt the Minnesota Wild a crushing blow, spoiling an impressive show by defenseman Quinn Hughes and handing the Wild a heart-stopping 4-3 overtime loss at their home game on Saturday night. The Islanders came from behind three times to secure the thrilling victory.

In what was expected to be a commanding performance for the Wild, they struggled to hold onto their leads as the Islanders consistently found ways to respond. Minnesota took the lead early but gave up the equalizer just 87 seconds later after a messy play in front of the net. The Islanders capitalized on this mistake to tie the game and eventually went on to take the lead themselves, forcing the Wild into overtime.

In overtime, Simon Holmstrom scored his second goal of the game, securing the win for the Islanders. Ben Jones finally got his first career goal for Minnesota after redirecting a perfect cross-ice pass from Brock Faber earlier in the third period, but it was not enough to secure the win.

Forward Ryan Hartman suffered a scare early on when he blocked an Islanders shot that appeared to hit him on the side of his skate. He limped off the ice but managed to return for a few shifts later.

Despite their impressive performance, the Wild struggled to close out games in regulation, handing over leads three times in the past six games. Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves for Minnesota, but ultimately came up short.

The Islanders now hold an advantage in their two-game season series with the Wild. The team faces a reunion of sorts on Monday as defenseman Quinn Hughes will face his brothers Jack and Luke for the first time in a Minnesota sweater.

omg I'm still tryna process this game 😲 the wild were so close to winning but those islanders just kept finding ways 2 come back πŸ™Œ simon holmstrom's overtime winner was insane! ben jones finally got his debut goal tho and it was sweet πŸŽ‰ but u feel for the wild fans who had their hearts set on a win πŸ˜” filip gustavsson made some sick saves but sometimes r u just not meant 2 win? πŸ’” i'm curious if quinn hughes will be able 2 contain his brothers during the game tho πŸ€”

Dude come on, 4-3 overtime? That's not exactly a commanding performance, is it? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ The Wild were like all over the place out there, giving up leads left and right. And Quinn Hughes just came back from that family reunion and scored a hat trick? πŸ˜‚ Priorities, man! Quinn was supposed to be the hero for his brothers, but instead he's just another reason why Minnesota can't close out games in regulation. πŸ™„ Filip Gustavsson had 23 saves, but it wasn't enough. Maybe they should work on their team chemistry a bit? ⏰

Man, what a game 😱! I mean, those Wild players were looking so good out there, but they just couldn't close it out. It's like they gave away 3 leads already? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Those Islanders are on fire though, they're like the ultimate comeback team. Quinn Hughes is a beast, I'm low-key kinda excited to see him go up against his brothers too 😏. And dude, Ryan Hartman dodged a major injury, that's some crazy stuff. Gustavsson made 23 saves, but you can't just rely on one goalie to save the day. Minnesota needs to work on their defensive skills if they wanna stay competitive in this league πŸ€”. The Islanders got lucky, but still, that was an insane game!

omg what's going on with that team? 🀯 they can't even close out a game 😩 i mean, 4-3 is a tough loss, but you'd think they'd be able to hold onto that lead. and simon holmstrom just swoops in and scores again? πŸ’₯ like, what's his secret πŸ€” ben jones getting his first goal tho is def a bright spot for the wilds πŸŽ‰ and ryan hartman being all brave after taking a hard shot skate to the side 😬 you'd think that'd be a game-changer. guess they'll just have to regroup and try again next time ⏰

man this game was SO intense 🀯 i'm still trying to process what happened, the wild had such a great showing but just couldn't close out the game, quinn hughes is literally a superhero on ice πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ he came from behind not once but TWICE! and that overtime goal by simon holmstrom was insane 😲 ben jones finally got his first career goal and it's about time we needed some good news for the wild fans... gotta feel bad for filip gustavsson, 23 saves just wasn't enough πŸ€•

omg what a game!!! 😱 I'm literally shaking just thinking about that last minute OT goal 🀯 Simon Holmstrom is straight up a hero!! πŸ’₯ I mean, that kid scored 2 goals in one game and his team comes out on top πŸŽ‰ The Islanders played like total sharks tho 🦈, they just wouldn't quit. And can we talk about Ben Jones getting his first career goal? πŸ’ͺ so sweet! 😊 And poor Ryan Hartman, he almost got hurt out there... glad he's okay πŸ‘ But, the Wild just can't seem to close out games in regulation right now πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Filip Gustavsson made some amazing saves tho, I'm not sure what else he could've done πŸ™„ anyway, on to the next game! πŸ’ͺ🏻

Ugh πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, can't believe the Wild gave away that game again 😩. I mean, come on, 3 times they lead and give it up? It's like they're giving away their free lunch πŸ”πŸ₯€. Quinn Hughes was on fire though πŸ”₯, but it wasn't enough to make up for those sloppy defensive plays.

And what's with the goalie situation? Filip Gustavsson made some great saves, but can't he just make a couple more stops in regulation? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's like they're trying to give the opposing team an easy win πŸ˜…. And the OT goal from Simon Holmstrom? Come on, that one stings πŸ’”.

I know the Wild have some young talent coming up, but can't they just get their act together for once? 🀯 This is getting frustrating ⏰. The Islanders got lucky, plain and simple πŸ€. Can't wait to see how this season unfolds πŸ‘€

omg i'm still shook by that game 😱 what's up with the wild struggling to close out games in reg? like they had ben jones get his 1st career goal but still lose in ot 🀯 simon holmstrom scored this huge winning goal for the isles and it was such a thrilling comeback πŸŽ‰ i feel bad for ryan hartman tho, that looked like a pretty scary block 😷 can't wait to see what happens next in their season series! are the wild gonna regroup and come back stronger or what? πŸ’ͺ

omg didnt see that one comin 🀯! islanders totally deserved the win, they played so clutch in overtime lol. i feel bad for the wild tho, quinn hughes had an insane game 😲. ben jones got his 1st goal and i'm lowkey hyped for him πŸ‘. ryan hartman's scare was super scary though πŸ€• glad he's ok. anyone else think the wild will bounce back from this? πŸ€” they've still got a great season ahead of 'em πŸ’ͺ

I'm low-key disappointed that the Wild couldn't close out the game. I mean, they had those leads and just dropped them like hot potatoes πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. It's not like the Islanders were outplaying them or anything... well, actually, they kind of were πŸ˜…. Quinn Hughes is a total stud, and the Wild should've found a way to shut him down. Now I'm curious to see how this season series plays out between these two teams... maybe the Wild can learn from their mistakes and come back strong πŸ’ͺ.

man i just saw this game what a wild ride 🀯 the islanders came from behind so many times it was like they were playing the other team's playbook lol the wild looked so solid with quinn hughes on defense but you can't win games in regulation when you're giving up leads all the time 23 saves for gus but not enough i feel bad for ben jones getting his first goal tho

Ugh I'm so sick of these forums always having to post about sports games πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Can't they just focus on something else for once? Like, I get that the Wild's homecoming party got ruined by those Islanders and all, but do we really need a whole page dedicated to it? The game was thrilling I guess, but it's not like anyone here has the time or energy to actually watch it. And now they're just going to keep rehashing it over and over again... Can't we talk about something more interesting for once? πŸ˜’

This game is like the 2022 midterms all over again, folks! 🀯 You've got one team coming into town thinking they're gonna take it easy, coasting to an OT win (like the GOP assuming they'll sweep) but then BAM! The underdog Wild come out swinging, making some crazy plays and giving their home fans a reason to celebrate. But in the end, it's like the Democrats - always finding ways to get the job done in the clutch, but still can't seem to close the deal when it matters most πŸ’₯

And then there's Quinn Hughes, the Wild's hero of the night πŸ™Œ. He's like a liberal snowflake, always talking about social justice and whatnot, but when it comes down to it, he's all about that W βš”οΈ. And let me tell you, facing his brothers on Monday is gonna be like the ultimate showdown between progressivism and... well, more of the same πŸ˜‚. Will Quinn's love for his family win out over his love for hockey? Only time (and maybe a few overtime games) will tell πŸ€”

OMG lol what a game!!! πŸ˜‚ I was on the edge of my seat, like literally hugging my couch πŸ›‹οΈ. Those Islanders are crazy, they came back from like 3 times behind? 🀯 That Simon Holmstrom dude is a total boss though, his overtime winner was SICK πŸ’₯. And Ben Jones' first career goal for Minnesota, that's lit πŸ”₯! Can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings for the Wild, especially with Quinn Hughes facing off against his bros 🀝🏻πŸ’ͺ.

OMG, what a game!!! 😱 I'm still shook after that overtime thriller 🀯! The Islanders came from behind like three times (whoa!) and just outlasted the Wild πŸ’ͺ. Quinn Hughes was on fire πŸ”₯, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. Ben Jones finally scored his first goal for Minnesota and all us Wild fans were hyped πŸ˜†... too bad it wasn't enough.

I'm still reeling from Ryan Hartman's close call πŸ€•, I thought he was done for good! Thankfully he bounced back, but that was a scary moment ⚠️. Filip Gustavsson made some huge saves, but just couldn't seal the deal πŸ’”. The Wild are struggling to close out games in rego and it's looking like they need to work on their end-of-game strategy πŸ€”.

Can't wait for Monday's game with Quinn Hughes facing his brothers for the first time πŸ˜…... should be good!

I'm telling ya, this game was like watching the party crasher – it came in uninvited and stole the show πŸŽ‰. The Wild had everything going for them, but their inability to close out that last lead was like a classic case of party poopers 😐. I mean, come on, can't they seal the deal? It's like they're giving away wins left and right. And don't even get me started on their D, it's like they're playing four-on-five most of the time 🀯.

And now they've got to face these Islanders again, who are basically the team Minnesota wishes they were 😊. I'm calling it now – this is gonna be a regular season showdown for the ages. It's like watching the titans go head-to-head in some epic struggle for supremacy πŸ’₯.

omg i think the wild were just unlucky πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ i mean they played such a great game, quinn hughes is literally unstoppable πŸ’₯ and ben jones got his first goal, that's amazing for him! but sometimes these things just don't go your way, you know? i'm not saying the islanders were the better team or anything, but maybe they just found their groove at the right time. and yeah, simon holmstrom scored some sick goals 🀯. anyway, can't wait to see what happens next in this season series between the two teams! πŸ˜„

omg what a crazy game!! i was literally on the edge of my seat watching this one... quinn hughes is insane tho! 🀯 how does he even do that? 😲 anyway, it's super disappointing for minnesota to lose like that. they had such a great chance at winning and then just couldn't hold onto it. i mean, ben jones finally got his first goal but it wasn't enough... πŸ˜” still, what an amazing effort by the islanders! πŸŽ‰ simon holmstrom's win was so clutch! πŸ’ͺ
