In Search of Youkali album review – Katie Bray is outstanding in this voyage around Weill

I just loved this concert ! Katie Bray's voice is so emotive, it's like she's singing directly from your heart . I mean, the way she conveyed the emotions in Barbarasong was just breathtaking . And William Vann on piano, Murray Grainger on accordion, and Marianne Schofield on double bass... they're all so talented! The way they worked together to create this beautiful tapestry of sound is just genius . I loved how they wove in those songs from Huckleberry Finn too - it's amazing how Weill's music can still evoke such strong emotions even after all these years . Anyway, if you get the chance to see Katie Bray perform, you totally have to go!

I mean, can you imagine having the chance to dive into someone's emotional world through their music? It feels so...humanizing? Like, we're not just listening to a bunch of notes and chords, but actually feeling what the artist is trying to convey. And Katie Bray does just that with Kurt Weill's discography - she takes these complex, often cryptic lyrics and makes them feel like you know exactly what she means, even if you don't speak German or whatever language he wrote it in Her voice has this way of wrapping around you, pulling you into the emotions of the song...it's like a warm hug for your soul .

man i just listened to this kurt weill thingy with some lady named katie bray and it was so emotional i felt like i was transported back to the 30s when weill was still alive lol the way she sings barbarasong gives me chills every time i think about weill's life and music he was such a genius, but also super tragic

i loved how they did this youkali melody at the start, it set the tone for the whole thing, like the soundtrack to some old film or something. and that song je ne t'aime pas is just haunting man, it makes me think about all the love songs weill wrote but never got to finish... anyway, katie bray's voice is just amazing she brings so much depth to every song i'm definitely going to listen to more of weill's stuff now

Just listened to Katie Bray's piano recital and it was mesmerizing ! The way she weaves together Kurt Weill's songs is like a journey through emotions . William Vann, Murray Grainger & Marianne Schofield are amazing too, creating this beautiful sonic tapestry . I love how Bray's voice takes you to the depths of Weill's lyrics, it's like she's singing straight from his heart . The way she conveys melancholy in songs like Barbarasong is stunning ! Can't recommend this enough

Bray's just got this gift for making you feel all the feels without even trying ... trust me, I was crying during one of the songs. And what really impresses me is that she doesn't overdo it - her voice remains so grounded and real .
