'In our DNA': Celtic deepen London ties with girls' football initiative

Celtic FC Foundation Launches New Girls' Football Initiative in London Amid Rainy Skies

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, coaches from Celtic FC Foundation braved the torrential rain in south London to launch a programme aimed at providing girls and young women from underprivileged backgrounds with opportunities to play football. The initiative is part of the foundation's efforts to deepen its ties with the local community, reflecting the club's long-standing commitment to helping those in need.

The foundation's chief executive, Tony Hamilton, explained that this programme is not an exercise for them but rather a natural extension of their mission to provide meaningful change for people living in their communities. The club was founded by Brother Walfrid, a Marist Brother who provided hot meals for Irish immigrants in Glasgow in 1887. This legacy has been carried forward, with the foundation now working across London and several US cities.

Hamilton acknowledged that charity was once marginalised but is now an integral part of Celtic FC Foundation's identity. The club has established numerous initiatives since its 125th anniversary in 2013, including a fuel bank initiative and a Christmas appeal that donates ยฃ400,000 to local families, homeless people, and refugees. These efforts demonstrate the foundation's commitment to helping those in need.

The new girls' football programme is just one example of how Celtic FC Foundation is using its resources to make a positive impact on the community. By partnering with local schools and churches, the foundation has been able to expand its reach beyond Glasgow, where it was originally established. With 11 supporters' clubs in London and New York, the club has built strong relationships with communities across the city.

The programme is also made possible by the generosity of Celtic FC's fans worldwide, who have enabled the foundation to raise significant funds through charity events such as golf days and a biannual legends match. The foundation receives only a fraction of public funding compared to counterparts in England, but Hamilton credits the club's supporters for their strong social conscience and willingness to support local initiatives.

As the foundation continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to its core values of helping those in need and making a positive impact on the community. With programmes like this girls' football initiative, Celtic FC Foundation is proving that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a brighter future.

Ugh, another charity initiative to make us all feel good about ourselves ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, who doesn't love a good excuse to donate money and pretend we're doing something amazing? But seriously, it's cool that Celtic FC Foundation is using its resources to help out the community...I guess. The fact that they're getting most of their funding from fans' charity events rather than public funding is kinda admirable, I'll give them that ๐Ÿค”. Still, it feels like a lot of fluff and not enough actual change being made. Oh well, at least we can all feel good about ourselves while we're donating ๐Ÿ’ธ

Ugh I'm still not getting my head around the fact that people used to think charity was cool ๐Ÿ˜…, now everyone's all about it... just saying, back in 2013 when they celebrated their 125th anniversary, I was like "yaaas, let's get this charity thing going" ๐ŸŽ‰. And then they started doing fuel banks and Christmas appeals? Mind. Blown. ยฃ400k to local families? That's some real change ๐Ÿ’ธ. It's dope to see them partnering with schools and churches to reach more people. I love how the fans are all about it too, who needs public funding when you've got a bunch of passionate supporters willing to make a difference? ๐Ÿ™Œ

I'm just saying, I love how passionate Celtic FC Foundation is about giving back to their community ๐Ÿค. The fact that they're not relying on public funding but instead getting support from fans and charity events is really inspiring ๐Ÿ’–. It's awesome that they're expanding their reach beyond Glasgow and building strong relationships with schools and churches in London and NYC ๐Ÿ‘. But, can we talk about the rain โ˜”๏ธ? Like, I get it's not ideal for launching a new programme, but come on, 11 supporters' clubs in one city? That's just a lot of people to coordinate ๐Ÿ™ƒ. Also, ยฃ400k donation every Christmas is no joke ๐Ÿ’ธ...it's great that they're making a difference, but how do we know all that money isn't getting lost in admin costs ๐Ÿค”?

I'm so down with this new initiative by Celtic FC Foundation! It's about time we start giving more opportunities to girls and young women from underprivileged backgrounds, you know? Growing up back in my day, football was just a game, but now I see how it can be a powerful tool for change. ๐ŸŸ๏ธ

I love how the foundation is partnering with local schools and churches to reach out to more communities. It's all about building those relationships and making a positive impact, you feel? And let's not forget the fans โ€“ they're the ones who make this whole thing happen! I remember when I was a kid, my dad would take me to Celtic FC matches, and now I'm proud to see how that passion has translated into supporting local initiatives. ๐Ÿ’–

The fact that it's raining outside doesn't matter; what matters is that people are coming together to make a difference. That's the spirit of community, you know? And who knows, maybe one day we'll have more girls and young women playing football at all levels. That would be amazing! ๐ŸŒŸ

ugh i'm literally so emotional reading this ๐Ÿคฏ...i mean i love celtic fc foundation's mission its so beautiful they're really making a difference in people's lives especially the young girls who need a safe space to play football and express themselves i feel like they're really showing us what it means to be a good human being by giving back to their community without expecting anything in return ๐Ÿ’–

i also love that they're partnering with local schools and churches its so cool to see them building relationships with the people who need help most ๐Ÿค and yeah charity is no longer stigmatized like it used to be its totally accepted now which is amazing

anyway i'm getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about all the good that celtic fc foundation is doing ๐Ÿ˜ญ can we please support them more? ๐Ÿ™

Ugh, more charity initiatives ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿˆ... don't get me wrong, it's great they're trying to help out some underprivileged kids play football, but is this just a PR stunt? I mean, how much of their own money are they actually putting into this initiative? And what about the long-term effects? Will these girls be able to sustain their love for football without relying on charity every year? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'm loving how Celtic FC Foundation is stepping up their game to support the next gen of female footballers! Reminds me of when I was younger and played footy with my mates, we had no fancy training facilities but our local community pitch was like our own little paradise ๐Ÿฐ. The fact that they're doing this initiative in south London amidst all the rain is just heartwarming ๐Ÿ˜Š. It's great to see a football club using its platform for good and making a real difference in people's lives. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good football match or two? ๐Ÿ†
