Her dad ran from the law, killed animals and joked about murder. She was certain he was guilty — police weren't.

Heather Thiel's search for answers about the 1992 double murder of Tim Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad has led her down a rabbit hole of investigation and heart-wrenching truth. Her father, Jeff Thiel, had long been her prime suspect in the case – but three years ago, police concluded that her cousin Tony Haase was actually responsible for the brutal killings.

The reversal sent shockwaves through the family and left Heather feeling lost and uncertain about what really happened on that fateful day. As she delved deeper into the case, she began to uncover more evidence that pointed towards Jeff Thiel – including a chilling comment he made days before the murders: "It's funny how you can get away with murder these days."

Yet despite her father's increasingly suspicious behavior and the mounting DNA evidence pointing to Tony Haase, Heather still harbored doubts about his guilt. When she finally found herself speaking to law enforcement again in 2022, she shared her concerns about Jeff Thiel – only to be told by investigators that they had already excluded him as a suspect years earlier.

The case's twists and turns took a dramatic turn when Tony Haase was arrested on August 11th, just days before his trial. The defense argued that Haase's confession had been coerced through an hours-long interrogation, but prosecutors countered that the DNA evidence strongly linked Haase to the crime scene.

At the trial, Haase's lawyers attempted to weave a narrative of coercion and degraded DNA evidence – while the prosecution painted Jeff Thiel as the prime suspect due to his motives and modus operandi. However, in the end it was not enough to sway the jury, which delivered a guilty verdict for Haase on the fourth day of deliberations.

For Heather Thiel, the outcome has brought both closure and renewed uncertainty about who really committed the heinous crimes. Despite her cousin's acquittal, she remains steadfast in her conviction that Jeff Thiel is responsible – and that justice was served by the jury's decision.

I'm tellin' ya, this whole thing just feels so familiar to me... like I'm watchin' a 90s drama or somethin'. You know how they used to say "don't rock the boat" back in the day? That's what's goin' on here with Heather and her dad, Jeff. One minute you think Tony Haase is off the hook, next thing you know he's back on it again... 🤯 It's like the whole world has just flipped upside down! And to make matters worse, now everyone's all shook up 'cause the verdict came out. I mean, I'm tryin' to be optimistic here and all, but I gotta ask... what really went down that day? Was it really Tony Haase or was Jeff Thiel playin' us all along? 🤔

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing 🤯... I mean, it's like, you've got a family member who's been wrongly accused for years, only to be cleared through a coerced confession 😱. But now, with DNA evidence pointing towards another relative... it just doesn't feel right, you know? 🤔

I think what bothers me the most is that there's still so many unanswered questions 🗑️. Was Jeff Thiel really innocent all along? Did he really make those comments that pointed to his guilt? And what about Tony Haase - did he really get coerced into a confession? There's just too much ambiguity in this case for me 👀.

I'm glad the jury delivered justice, but at what cost? For Heather and her family, I can only imagine how hard it must be to have these questions still lingering 🤕. We need more accountability in our system of justice, where we can ensure that everyone gets a fair shot at redemption or closure 💯.

I'm totally shook by this case 😱 - three years ago they say Tony Haase was cleared but now it looks like they had no idea 🤦‍♀️ what really happened. The DNA evidence seems pretty strong, but I guess you can't always trust a confession 💔. Heather's dad being the prime suspect is wild though 🤯, and that comment he made about getting away with murder? Chilling 😓. It's like they say in true crime circles: nothing is ever as simple as it seems 🔒.

OMG 🤯 like I'm totally feeling for Heather right now 😔 she's been on this investigation journey since 1992 🕰️ and it's crazy how everything just keeps getting more complicated 💥 I mean, I get why she wants to know the truth 🤷‍♀️ but at the same time, I can see why she'd be all messed up in her head right now 😓 that comment from her dad tho 👀 "It's funny how you can get away with murder these days" 🚫 is like, totally chilling and suspicious 😳 so yeah I think it's cool that Jeff Thiel was ruled out as a suspect before but also kinda frustrating for Heather 💔 I'm just glad the jury delivered justice to Tanna and Tim's families 👊

🤔 I mean, can you believe what just happened? Like, Tony Haase gets convicted and all, but Heather still thinks her dad did it... 🤷‍♀️ What's up with that? 😕 Like, if she didn't think he was guilty back when they said he wasn't a suspect years ago, why is she still on his side now? 🤔 It's like, the truth will come out eventually, right? 💡

🤔 this whole thing just got so weird... like how can you have a prime suspect and then suddenly they're not? 🙅‍♀️ did they really close the case on Tony Haase 3 years ago, or was it just covered up till the DNA came in? 🕵️‍♀️ i mean, Heather's dad saying that out loud is super sus, but if investigators already said he wasn't a suspect... what were they thinking? 💭

can't believe this case still got me thinking 🤯. I feel for Heather, she's been through so much searching for answers about what happened to those two ppl. now that Tony Haase is locked up i'm sure it brought her some closure, but i gotta wonder if justice was really served when the DNA evidence pointed towards Jeff Thiel all along? 🧬💔

omg can u believe this case?? 🤯 i feel like heather's been through so much emotional turmoil trying to get answers about what really happened to tim & tanna. first, they thought it was her cousin tonny, but now it's back to her dad jeff... and honestly, that comment he made before the murders is giving me major chills 😱 i don't know how much more she can take. the DNA evidence seems pretty clear, but at the same time, you can't help but wonder if there were some other factors at play. anyway, i'm just glad justice was served in the end 🙏 but for heather, it's still a case of "i told u so"... even if it's hard to celebrate when it's her own family member 🤷‍♀️

Man... this case is giving me all these vibes of 'The X-Files' back in the day 🕵️‍♀️. I remember watching that show with my family, trying to piece together mysteries like this. Anyway, Heather Thiel's been down this rabbit hole for years and it's wild how her story can be both fascinating and unsettling at the same time 😳.

I feel bad for her, though - all these twists and turns must've left her feeling lost and confused. And now with Tony Haase getting a guilty verdict, I'm sure she's still got her doubts about Jeff Thiel... maybe never gonna get some answers, you know? 🤷‍♀️ Still, it's crazy how this case has been ongoing for so long - like a real-life 'Dateline' episode 😲.

omg u won't believe this 🤯 I've been following this case for ages & it's like, soooo crazy! Heather's dad Jeff was always a prime suspect but then they said Tony Haase was the one? only to find out later that he might not be guilty at all? 🙄 And now there's more DNA evidence pointing to Jeff again... it's like, which one is it?? 😩 I don't know how much more of this the family can take. What do u think happened tho? was it really Tony Haase or was it just a setup?
