Dallas Mavericks' Brandon Williams apologises for marijuana arrest

Dallas Mavericks guard Brandon Williams issued a public apology for his recent marijuana arrest at Dallas Fort Worth Airport, citing that he was "a distraction" to the team. The 25-year-old had less than two ounces of marijuana found in his luggage, which is illegal for recreational use in Texas.

Williams missed two games with the Mavericks after his arrest but returned in their 107-105 win against the Indiana Pacers at American Airlines Centre. Despite the incident, Williams said he can't elaborate on the details and wants to take full responsibility for being a distraction.

The NBA has relaxed its stance on marijuana testing since 2023, so it's unclear whether this will impact Williams' future with the team or his personal life.

Other notable games saw the Chicago Bulls extend their perfect start to the season, while the Los Angeles Lakers edged out the Minnesota Timberwolves in a thrilling finale. The Memphis Grizzlies also secured a win at home against the Phoenix Suns, while the Portland Trail Blazers edged past the Utah Jazz with key free throws from Jrue Holiday.

In other matchups, the New Orleans Pelicans fell short to the Denver Nuggets, while Kevin Durant led the Houston Rockets to a strong late comeback against the Toronto Raptors. The Atlanta Hawks overcame an early deficit to win at the Brooklyn Nets, and the Boston Celtics capitalized on home court advantage with a 125-105 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

So he gets caught for weed and now he's apologizing for being a distraction? Like what did he do exactly? He was just chillin' in his seat or somethin'? 🤷‍♂️ It's not like it's a big deal... I mean, we all know the NBA is super relaxed on weed stuff now anyway. 2023 changed some rules and all that. So yeah, he's gettin' off easy if you ask me. Didn't even do any real time before comin' back to play ball. Maybe he should've just kept quiet about it instead of apologizin'...

man... think about this, we all make mistakes right? like brandon williams he slipped up but now he's owning it and taking responsibility 🤦‍♂️. what's important is how we respond to those mistakes. do we run from them or face 'em head on? for brandon that meant missing some games and then coming back stronger. it's a reminder that growth happens outside of our comfort zones, and sometimes that means being a little uncomfortable ourselves 🌱. let's all try to be like brandon - own up to our mistakes, learn from them, and keep moving forward 💪

omg what's with all these celebs getting arrested for marijuana lol like Brandon Williams is a grown man can't he just chill? 🤣 i feel bad for him tho, being a distraction to his team must be super embarrassing but at the same time it's not like he was driving or anything so idk if i'd be too mad 😒 and i guess it's good that the NBA has relaxed their stance on marijuana testing now maybe players can just move on from these little mistakes 🤪

🙄 I'm so done with NBA players who think they're above the law... like Brandon Williams, dude! You get arrested for weed and suddenly you're this "distraction" to your team? Give me a break! 🚫 You're still gonna show up to games, score points, and expect everyone to just forgive and forget? Newsflash: it's not that simple. The guy's got some serious growing up to do. I mean, what if he had been caught with harder stuff? Would the team be so quick to take him back? 🤔 It's all about perception vs reality here. Williams wants to be all heroic and apologetic, but let's not forget, he's still got a ton of explaining to do to his teammates, coaches, and fans. The NBA has relaxed its stance on weed testing, but that doesn't mean it's all sunshine and rainbows for him now. He needs to take responsibility for his actions, period! 💯

omg can't believe brandon williams got caught with weed in his luggage 🤯 like, you're a pro athlete dude! shouldn't be a distraction to your game anyway... but idk what's going on in texas man lol they really need to chill out on the marijuana laws 🙄. and honestly i feel for brandon he took full responsibility and apologized already... maybe he just needs some self care and mindfulness practices to deal with the stress 💆‍♂️

meh, another celeb gets caught doing something dumb and now they're owning up to it 🙃 gotta ask tho, if you're already missing two games what's the point of apologizin' beforehand? seems like just gonna get used as a talking point for their next game back 👀 also, can we talk about how ridiculous the NBA's stance on weed testing is? 2023 yeah sure lol it's not like they're tryin' to make an example outta Brandon Williams or nothin 🤷‍♂️

I don't usually comment but... think Brandon Williams was kinda harsh on himself. I mean, two games missed is already pretty big deal, you know? And now he's got this whole 'distraction' thing going on... it's like, dude, one small mistake and you're already stressing about being a distraction? 🤔 And what's with not wanting to elaborate on the details? I feel bad for him. Like, I wouldn't wanna be in his shoes either. Can't we just have a conversation about this instead of being so quiet about it? 😐

omg what a rookie move from Brandon Williams 🤦‍♂️ i mean i get it mistakes happen but being transparent about it is key too he should've been more honest about his situation maybe just said something like "hey guys i had a bad day" or something 😅 instead of saying he was a distraction to the team what does that even mean? 🤔

Mjolnir's got some 'splainin' to do! 🤣

[A GIF of a basketball bouncing into a hoop, with the words "Just another day in the NBA" written on the screen]

Williams should've just said "I'm stoked to be playing ball, and I'm feeling pretty chill about this whole situation 🌱"

[An image of a team's coach looking unimpressed, with a caption: "When you're like 'Son, we gotta keep it together, not get distracted'"]

NBA players growin' up, learnin' to navigate life outside the court. And also learn how to deal with the law 🤣

🤔 I'm telling you, there's more to this story than meets the eye. This whole "I was a distraction" thing just sounds like an excuse to me. Like, what does he mean by that? Was he getting in trouble off the court too or is the team just worried about his on-court performance being affected by... other things? 🤷‍♂️

And have you noticed how convenient it is for him to come back to the game after missing two, and they win against the Pacers? Almost like they needed a distraction from their own issues. 💭 And don't even get me started on the NBA's relaxed stance on marijuana testing... that's just a cover-up if you ask me 🤐.

It's all about the money and power, folks. They're using this as a way to keep players in line and maintain control over the league. The team's trying to send a message without actually saying anything too loud 😏.
