Chargers’ Justin Herbert to undergo procedure for broken bone

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will undergo a procedure to correct a broken bone in his hand after being hit during the team's win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The injury forced Herbert out of the game, with backup quarterback Trey Lance stepping in as relief. Initially, it was reported that Herbert had suffered an injury to his non-throwing hand, but he later returned to the game wearing a massive cast.

Despite the setback, the Chargers were able to secure a 31-14 victory and improve to 8-5 on the season, which puts them firmly in the playoff conversation. However, the looming challenge ahead may prove difficult for Herbert, who is expected to have surgery on Monday to correct the injury.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh expressed uncertainty about whether Herbert will be able to play in their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles, stating that he is treating it as if he is playing on Monday. If the procedure is not invasive and Herbert's condition does not worsen, he may be able to wear a brace like the one he had on during his return to the Raiders game.

Herbert has previously suffered a broken finger in his non-throwing hand in 2023, which required season-ending surgery. The hope for the Chargers is that this injury will follow a similar trajectory and not result in a longer-term absence for Herbert. However, with only a few days until their next matchup, Herbert's status remains uncertain, leaving room for change by the time they face off against the Eagles.

🤔 This injury drama is a perfect example of how player safety can become a major concern in professional sports 🏈. I mean, think about it - an NFL quarterback getting hit so hard that he breaks a bone in his hand? It's like they're more worried about winning games than protecting their own players' well-being 💼.

And let's be real, the fact that Herbert is expected to have surgery on Monday and still has a chance of playing in the next game against Philly... it just shows how stacked the NFL schedule is 📆. The Chargers need to make sure they're not putting Herbert's long-term health at risk for the sake of winning a few more games ⏰.

It's also worth considering that this injury could have serious implications for the team's playoff chances 🏆. If Herbert can't play due to lingering effects from the broken bone, it could be tough for them to make a deep run in the postseason. The NFL needs to take steps to prioritize player safety and prevent these types of injuries from happening in the first place 💪.

man, this stuff can be crazy 🤯 ... Chargers are doing alright i guess but this is not what you want when you're in the playoffs... Justin Herbert was rockin' at the beginning of the season and now he's dealing with this mess... hope it's not too bad for him... if he has to go under the knife on monday, that's gonna be tough for them... can't say i'm surprised though, injuries happen especially when you're gettin' hit all over the field like that 🤕

😔 the hand injuries are always so unpredictable... 🤕 hope jherbert recovers well from this one 🙏 it's crazy how his season could take a turn like this 🚨 but still 8-5 is not bad 🎉 and if he can get back to his normal self, i think chargers got a good shot at the playoffs 💪 meanwhile, eagles are looking pretty solid this season too 😏 maybe it'll be an interesting matchup 👀

just can't believe how fast football injuries can pile up, feels like just last week Justin was out and now he's back on the field with a new injury 😩💉 hope this one doesn't turn into a season-ender, Chargers are still in contention for playoffs though so fingers crossed 🤞 that this surgery goes smoothly and Herbert gets to lead his team into the postseason 💪

omg man 😅, cant believe herbert had to sit out a game with this stupid injury 🤕... anywayz, i think it's not good that he's having surgery on monday lol, like what if its more serious than expected? 🤔 and now harbaugh is all uncertain about herbert playing next week 🤷‍♂️... fingers crossed the docz do a minimal procedure so he can get back on the field ASAP 💪

.. I'm glad to see Justin Herbert is going to get some help with his hand 🤕. It's crazy how much pressure those quarterbacks are under, especially when you're playing in a tough league like the NFL. The fact that he was able to play through the injury and even returned for part of the game shows just how tough he is 💪.

But at the same time, I'm a bit worried about him going into surgery 🤔. If everything goes smoothly, it's great, but you never know what can go wrong during these procedures. And with only a few days until their next game against the Eagles, it feels like there's just too much riding on this one guy 🕰️.

Still, I'm rooting for him to come out of this okay 💯. The Chargers have been playing really well this season and Herbert is such an important part of that team 🏈. Fingers crossed everything works out for him and he can get back out there soon 🤞

I'm so sorry I missed this thread 🙈🏈. So yeah I think the Chargers are doing alright considering Herbert got hurt. I mean 8-5 is a good record and all but I don't know if they can keep it up with him being injured. Lance did okay I guess? I'm not really sure what to expect from this next game though, with Herbert's status uncertain. If he doesn't have any other setbacks like last time then hopefully he'll be back to normal soon 🤞🏈

Ugh, I'm literally fuming about Justin Herbert right now 🤯! I mean, one minute he's out there throwing touchdowns like no one's business and the next he's hobbling around with a broken bone in his hand 🤕. I feel for him, bro, this is just not fair 😩.

And can we talk about how scary it was to watch him return to the game wearing that massive cast? I'm trying to be positive, but it's hard not to worry when your favorite QB is limping around on the field 🤦‍♂️. And now they're saying he might not even make it for their next game against the Eagles?! 😱 What if this injury takes longer than just a few days to heal?!

I remember when Justin suffered that broken finger in 2023 and had to sit out for the whole season 📆. My heart broke for him, but I was so proud of how he bounced back from it 💪. This time around, let's hope for the best and not the worst 😊. But seriously, can we please just take a deep breath and focus on getting Justin Herbert back to 100% ASAP?! 🙏

I don't think it's ideal for Justin Herbert to rush back into the game that soon... 🤔 I mean, he just came back from an injury in his non-throwing hand and now he's got another one, even if it is a broken bone in his throwing hand! 😬 A few more days to heal would've been better, you know? Now they're relying on him to be good as new in just 3-4 days... 🤞

just got out of a fantasy football draft and my guy just benched lamar jackson lol 😂 meanwhile in real life gotta feel bad for herbert, hope that surgery goes smooth and he can get back to throwing with ease 🤞 those chargers are looking good this season though 👍

Ugh, sports injuries are the WORST 🤕! Can't believe Justin Herbert has to go through another surgery... like, when will he be good again? 😩 I'm trying to look on the bright side, but it's hard not to worry about him. I hope it's something minor and he can just wear a brace or something 💪. Jim Harbaugh seems pretty chill though, which is cool 🤗. Fingers crossed (lol) Herbert makes a speedy recovery so he can get back to throwing touchdowns for the Chargers 🔥!

🤕 oh no like this is bad news for the chargers especially with the playoffs coming up 🏈😬 just hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those hand injuries that keep you out for a while 👍 but hopefully trey lance can step in and lead them to a win 💪

Ugh, great just what we need, another QB injury 🤕... Like it's not bad enough that he had to go out in the game with a broken bone, now he's gonna have surgery on Monday and his status is still up in the air? 😬 And with only 3 days until their next game against Philly, if anything goes wrong during the procedure or if the injury isn't as minor as they think, it could be a total disaster for them. The playoffs are looking more and more out of reach for this team... 🤦‍♂️

Omg u gotta feel 4 Justin Herbert he went out of the game and came back w/ that huge cast 🤯💉! Hope he recovers fast so he can play in the next game, would be a huge bummer if he misses it 😞. Can't wait to see how this plays out, Chargers are doing well but this injury could change everything 💔. Trey Lance did good fill-in though 👏

Omg, like, this is a big blow for the Chargers 🤕! Justin Herbert's hand injury could potentially keep him out of the game against the Eagles and that would be a huge loss. I mean, he's their best QB and Trey Lance isn't exactly the same level of player 😐. The fact that they were able to win with him out is awesome though, it shows how deep their team is.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed (literally) 🤞 that the surgery goes smoothly and Herbert recovers quickly. It's also a good sign that he was able to return to the game without further complications, so maybe this won't be as bad as the last injury he had in 2023 🙏. The Chargers are definitely in the playoff conversation now, but this could be a major setback if they can't get Herbert back on the field soon 💪.
