Celtic: Martin O'Neill insists club need January signings

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has made it clear that the club needs to strengthen its squad in the January transfer window. The 73-year-old, who returned as caretaker manager last month after a dismal eight-game tenure under Wilfried Nancy, says Celtic must "supplement" their current squad if they are to have any chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title.

O'Neill's comments come after a tumultuous start to the season, during which the club has lost six games and conceded 18 goals. The Northern Irishman acknowledges that he will be under pressure to deliver results, but insists that he will "not have any excuses" if Celtic fail to get the job done.

The club's summer transfer activity caused frustration among fans, who protested against the board throughout the campaign. O'Neill says that his rapid return as caretaker manager is "every bit as strange" as it was a month ago, but adds that he has been working with former Celtic players Mark Fotheringham and Stephen McManus to identify potential signings.

Celtic have already brought in Bournemouth right-back Julian Araujo on loan, but O'Neill believes that the club needs to make further additions if they are to challenge for the title. The manager says that he would "love" forward Daizen Maeda to remain at the club this month, and is determined to drive Celtic on to a successful end to the season.

O'Neill's comments come as the club prepares to face Dundee United in his first match back as caretaker manager on Saturday. With 18 league games remaining, Celtic know that they need to strengthen their squad if they are to have any chance of winning the title.

I think O'Neill is spot on about strengthening the squad 🤔. It's been a pretty rough patch for Celtic and fans are feeling frustrated. I'm not surprised he's calling out the summer transfer activity as a potential issue - it's clear that the club needs some serious reinforcements ⚽️. That loan deal with Araujo is a good start, but I think more than just one or two signings will be needed to push Celtic up the table 📈. The fact that O'Neill is working with ex-players to identify potential signings is also a positive move - it shows he's serious about getting this right 💼. With 18 games left and a big match against Dundee United on Saturday, I'm expecting some big changes in the coming weeks ⏰💥

idk how they cant afford 2 make some decent signings already 🤔👀 i mean, its been like 6 losses and 18 goals conceded...its not exactly a confidence booster for the fans. and yeah, i agree with martin o'neill that the squad needs to be strengthened but isnt it about time they made some moves? loaning in julian araújo is just bandaid solution 🤕

I'm so done with all these transfers and injuries 🤯. Can't the club just get it together already?! 😩 I mean, Martin O'Neill's gotta be right though, we do need some new blood in that squad... Julian Araujo's a good start, but we can't rely on just one guy to save us. 💪 I'm loving Daizen Maeda's style tho, he's always been an amazing player! 🌟 What if Celtic gets their act together and wins the title? That'd be epic! 🏆

I'm just confused about this whole thing. I mean, didn't we just have a Premier League season where teams had to navigate all these financial restrictions? It's weird to see Celtic splashing cash in January 🤑. And what's with all the drama between the fans and the board? Can't they just get along? 😐 I know some of my mates who are big Celtic supporters were really frustrated last summer when they signed that guy from Bournemouth, Julian Araujo. They thought it was a waste of money 💸. Now O'Neill's saying he needs to supplement their squad...like, how does that even work? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this season's playoffs ⚽️...remember when they were called the old First Division?

I'm gettin' a bit worried about Celtic's season 🤔. Martin O'Neill is right, though - they do need some reinforcements in January 🛍️. Six losses and 18 goals conceded? That's not exactly a great start ⚠️. And with Wilfried Nancy's tenure being so underwhelming, it's no wonder fans are frustrated 😩.

But I've got to give O'Neill credit for coming back as caretaker manager - that does seem like a bit of a strange turnaround 🔄. And working with Mark Fotheringham and Stephen McManus to identify signings is a good move 💡. Bringing in Julian Araujo on loan is a decent start, but they'll need some more quality players if they want to challenge for the title 🔥.

I'm curious to see how O'Neill does against Dundee United this weekend - it's his first match back as caretaker manager 🏈. And with 18 games remaining, Celtic really do need to get their act together ⏰. I'll be keepin' an eye on them 👀.

I don't get why Celtic's board didn't just do some decent scouting before bringing in a loan player like Julian Araujo? I mean, Bournemouth is a decent club, but we've already conceded 18 goals and lost six games... it doesn't add up. 🤔 What's the thinking behind these signings, anyway? And what's with Daizen Maeda being a "love" interest for O'Neill? Is that just PR speak or what? I need some sources on this, guys! 💡

omg is it really gonna be a miracle season for celtic lol 73 and still trying to turn things around who knew martin o'neill had it in him but seriously the team needs some serious upgrades or else it's just a waste of time and all those protests against the board were totally justified

😐 I think O'Neill is right on the money though, they've been pretty meh all season so far. They do need to supplement their squad and get some decent players in ASAP 🤔. Six losses already? That's not exactly a strong foundation. I'm still surprised he got his job back so quickly tho... must be because the fans are itching for results 🙄. But seriously, Daizen Maeda staying put would be massive for them, he's been having a rough time too ⚽️.
