Cantina la Martina brings La Tamalada back to Kensington in first Philly event since closure

Cantina la Martina Brings Vibrant La Tamalada Festival Back to Kensington for First Time Since Closure

On February 1st, The Lighthouse in Philadelphia will host Cantina la Martina's highly anticipated fourth annual La Tamalada festival, marking the first time since its closure in November. This free outdoor celebration promises to bring together the community with food, drinks, and entertainment.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring local street vendors selling handmade tamales alongside traditional Mexican beverages such as atole and tea. Visitors can indulge in these treats on a pay-as-you-go basis, with each tamale priced at $6. Cantina la Martina's owners have vowed to continue hosting pop-ups and community gatherings, making La Tamalada a vital part of the neighborhood's cultural scene.

The festivities will be complemented by family-friendly activities, including hayrides, barrel rides, artisan vendors, and a petting zoo with adorable horses, goats, and pigs. At 2 p.m., participating vendors will compete in a tamale-making contest, with awards given to the top entries.

La Tamalada is an annual celebration honoring La Candelaria, a Mexican tradition marking the close of the holiday season. This year's event also pays tribute to the community gathering that traditionally follows Rosca de Reyes, further solidifying its connection to local culture.

The Lighthouse will serve as the perfect venue for this festive gathering, with plenty of space for attendees to mingle and enjoy the offerings. With an exciting lineup of activities, food, and drinks, Cantina la Martina's La Tamalada festival promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.

I'm stoked that Cantina la Martina is bringing back their La Tamalada festival after being closed down. It's amazing how the community has come together to support these kinds of events, and it's a great way to celebrate our cultural diversity ๐ŸŽ‰. The fact that they're doing pop-ups and community gatherings afterwards shows that they really value the community aspect of these events.

I think what I love most about La Tamalada is the food โ€“ handmade tamales are a game-changer! And having local street vendors selling traditional Mexican drinks like atole and tea will definitely add to the festive vibe ๐Ÿน. The fact that it's free is also a bonus, making it accessible to everyone.

The activities they have planned sound awesome too โ€“ hayrides, barrel rides, artisan vendors... it's going to be a fun-filled day for all ages! And the tamale-making contest is a great way to get everyone involved and competing. I'm sure it'll be a really fun event that brings the community together ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•. The Lighthouse venue is perfect for this kind of thing, with plenty of space for people to mingle and enjoy themselves. It's going to be an unforgettable experience, no doubt about it!

So they're bringing back this thing after like 6 months? ๐Ÿค” I'm not sure if it's a good idea, it feels like a bit of a PR stunt to me... They're charging $6 per tamale, that's kinda steep for a community event. Don't get me wrong, I love tamales as much as the next person, but I wish they'd make more of 'em available for free or low-cost. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I'm hyped that Kensington is bringing back La Tamalada ๐ŸŽ‰, but you gotta wonder, who's footing the bill? Is it the city government providing some funding or are we looking at a private-public partnership? Either way, I love that Cantina la Martina's owners are keeping the spirit of community gathering alive. It's all about creating those social connections and a sense of belonging, which is what our politicians should be focusing on ๐Ÿค”. Now, let's talk infrastructure โ€“ The Lighthouse is a great venue, but have they considered the logistics of getting all that food and drink out there? And what about accessibility for all attendees? These are questions we need to ask ourselves as we celebrate our community's diversity ๐Ÿ’•.

I'm so stoked they're bringing back La Tamalada! ๐ŸŽ‰ I've been missing that vibe since it closed down in Kensington. The fact that Cantina la Martina is making an effort to keep the community engaged with pop-ups and gatherings shows they really care about what's going on in our hood. $6 for a tamale sounds like a pretty sweet deal too! ๐Ÿค‘ Can't wait to check out the festival, it's gonna be lit! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I'm thinking, what's the real reason behind bringing back this fest? Is it just a community service thingy or is there some hidden agenda? I mean, our city's been investing in revitalizing old neighborhoods and this festival is right in the heart of Kensington. Did they do some market research to figure out what people would actually want to come back for? The free outdoor celebration sounds cool and all, but have you seen the prices on those tamales? $6 a pop? That's not cheap! Maybe it's just a PR stunt to get some good press going before the next local elections.

Ugh, I'm so skeptical about this festival... Like, have they even thought through the logistics? Free outdoor event with no clear plan in place? What if it rains? What if the vendors get lost on the way there? And $6 a tamale is steep, especially considering they're still figuring out the kinks. Plus, I'm not sure how well they'll be able to control the crowds and keep everything running smoothly...

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ๐ŸŽ‰ cantinas gonna bring back la tamalada festival! its been a while since kensington saw one & now the lighthouse is hosting it? thats fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ i'm hyped they got family friendly activities too, my little ones will love the petting zoo ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿด! tamale prices r pretty reasonable @ $6 each too! cantina la martina always brings the culture ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŒฏ๏ธ

๐ŸŽ‰ OMG I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS EVENT!!! ๐Ÿคฉ it's amazing that cantina la martina is bringing this festival back to kensington after being closed, i've heard so many great things about their tamales and the community vibe they have, this event is going to be a total celebration of mexican culture and food ๐ŸŒฏ๐ŸŽ‚ i mean who doesn't love free outdoor events with good food and drinks? ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ˜Š and the fact that it's family-friendly with activities like hayrides and a petting zoo is just perfect for families or groups of friends looking for something fun to do on a nice day โ˜€๏ธ can't wait to check it out and see all the delicious tamales and drinks ๐Ÿ˜‹
