Boston Fleet Remain Undefeated Behind Aerin Frankel's Shutout Performance
The Boston Fleet have cemented their status as the last unbeaten team in the league, extending their winning streak to three games with a 2-0 victory over Vancouver Goldeneyes at Agganis Arena. Goalie Aerin Frankel was once again flawless between the pipes, stopping all 21 shots that came her way en route to a shutout.
Frankel's impressive performance marked her second shutout of the season, and she has allowed just one goal in three games this year. The Northeastern product boasts an incredible .986 save percentage, making her a formidable presence for opponents.
The Fleet's success can be attributed to Frankel's steadying influence, which provides confidence to the team in any situation. "When you have goaltending that is that solid, it gives your team confidence," said head coach Kris Sparre. "She works so hard at her craft and deserves everything that she gets coming her way."
The team's offense has also been on point, with Abby Newhook scoring for the second time in two games to give Boston an early lead. The Goldeneyes were unable to generate quality chances throughout the game, despite outshooting the Fleet 19-2 through the first period.
However, it was Jill Saulnier who sealed the win for Boston with a beautiful individual effort. The Halifax native scooped up a puck at the offensive blue line and turned on the afterburners before snapping a quick wrister past Vancouver netminder Emerance Maschmeyer's glove.
Sparre believes that his team is just scratching the surface of their potential, despite starting the season with three wins. "It's a great feeling to start like this," he said. "But we're kind of looking at this as a beginning point... there's so much untapped potential in our whole entire lineup."
The Fleet will look to continue their winning ways when they take on another opponent in the league, but for now, they remain undefeated and poised for a strong season.
