LuckyChap International, a joint venture between Margot Robbie's production company LuckyChap and European giant Mediawan Group, is set to launch its doors in January with an official presence in London. The new entity aims to produce international film and television projects across the U.K. and Europe.
The partnership brings together Mona Qureshi and Tanya Qureshi, two seasoned industry veterans with extensive experience in creative leadership. Mona Qureshi joins LuckyChap after a stint as director of scripted series at Netflix UK, while her sister Tanya Qureshi recently served as commissioning editor in drama at the BBC.
The Qureshi sisters will oversee creative and day-to-day operations for LuckyChap International, with a primary focus on television. The company plans to build out a broader team across film and television in the coming months, working closely with its US-based counterpart.
"We've always shared a deep love of storytelling, so getting to build something together at LuckyChap feels like a dream," Mona Qureshi and Tanya Qureshi said in a joint statement. "As sisters, we've cheered each other on through our individual careers, and now we get to combine everything we've learned to grow this next chapter – literally and figuratively – side by side."
LuckyChap International will operate under the leadership of Monaco-based producer Pierre-Antoine Capton, who led discussions with Robbie's company. The international venture is majority-owned and controlled by LuckyChap, with Mediawan maintaining a minority stake.
The strategic partnership and investment emerge from ongoing conversations between LuckyChap and Mediawan Group. Mediawan has established itself as one of Europe's biggest independent studios, producing more than 400 titles each year across drama, unscripted, documentary, cinema, and animated original content through 80 production labels operating in 14 countries.
The partnership is seen as a major coup for Capton, who will work closely with Mona Qureshi and Tanya Qureshi to support LuckyChap's growth and creativity. "We are thrilled to support LuckyChap's talented teams in this new and pivotal step of their development," Capton said in a statement.
LuckyChap International is poised to capitalize on the UK's growing reputation as a major production hub for movies and shows, as well as its source of buzzy hits such as "Adolescence." The company will focus on producing films that reflect LuckyChap's signature DNA, with an emphasis on unique voices and bold ideas.
