Ann Arbor Folk Fest announces new format, partial lineup for 2026 - Detroit Metro Times

Ann Arbor Folk Festival Mixes Things Up for its 49th Edition

The Ann Arbor Folk Festival, which celebrates its 49th year, is shaking things up for its next event. Gone are the traditional two nights of folk and roots acts at Hill Auditorium; instead, the festival will kick off with a full concert featuring a headlining artist on Friday, January 30, followed by the usual format on Saturday, January 31.

According to festival organizers, this change is a response to audience feedback. By mixing things up, they aim to create a more dynamic and engaging experience for attendees. The exact reason behind this decision remains unclear, but it's evident that the festival is committed to listening to its community and making adjustments accordingly.

As of now, the Friday night headliner will be announced on November 17, while the full Saturday lineup has been revealed. Performers include Grand Rapids indie rock band the Crane Wives, Philadelphia singer-songwriter Amos Lee, Los Angeles folk rock band Dawes, Uganda-via-Texas act Jon Muq, and University of Michigan student Nat Timmerman (performing as Rabbitology). Massachusetts singer-songwriter Ryan Montbleau will also take the stage, serving as the festival's MC.

Tickets to the event range from $56.60 to $281.50 and are available for purchase starting Wednesday at 10 a.m. for members and Friday at 10 a.m. for the general public. More information can be found on The Ark's website (theark.org).

just saw this news about ann arbor folk fest 🎸 and i gotta say, it sounds like they're trying to breathe some new life into the event! mixing up the format by having a headliner on friday night is gonna be a game changer for those who love live music. and yay for more diverse lineup 🌎 with acts from all over the world! πŸ’– can't wait to see what other surprises they have in store for us πŸ€”

I'm stoked about this new twist on the Ann Arbor Folk Festival πŸŽ‰! It sounds like the organizers are really tuning in to what the audience wants, and I gotta respect that. By starting with a full concert featuring a headlining act, they're definitely shaking things up and trying something fresh.

It's cool that the Saturday lineup is still going to follow the traditional format, though - sometimes you just want to keep some of the tried-and-true elements of the festival intact πŸ™Œ. I'm also loving the mix of local and national acts - it'll be awesome to see Nat Timmerman (Rabbitology) get his chance to shine on the big stage 🎢.

One thing that's got me curious is what inspired this change in the first place... maybe there was a particular comment or suggestion from a fan that really resonated with the team? Either way, I'm all for it - more variety and surprises at the festival are always a good thing!

I'm so stoked about this new direction the Ann Arbor Folk Festival is taking 🀩! I've been going to this fest for years, and it's always amazing to see all these talented artists come together. This change feels like a breath of fresh air - who doesn't love a good headliner to kick off the weekend? 😎 I'm curious to see how the Friday night concert will set the tone for the rest of the festival...and also hope that Nat Timmerman's set will be lit! 🀘

the new format is gonna be super interesting πŸ€”, i mean who doesnt love a good headliner? 😎 but idk about this, are they gonna lose that chilly folk vibe they're known for? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ the lineup looks pretty cool tho, i'm lowkey hyped to see nat timmerman perform as rabbitology 🐰🎸

I think its kinda cool how they're shaking things up this year πŸ€”, defo change of pace from the usual format. I mean, why not give the fans something new to look forward to? And its awesome that they're listening to audience feedback and making adjustments to keep it fresh. The lineup looks fire too! πŸŽ‰ I'm hyped to see Nat Timmerman's Rabbitology set up on Saturday 🀘, cant wait to see what Ryan Montbleau brings as the MC 🎀. The crane wives from Grand Rapids are gonna bring that indie rock vibe and Amos Lee is always a soulful treat 🌴... its all about variety this year and I'm here for it!

OMG, I'm literally so hyped 🀩 for the new format of the Ann Arbor Folk Festival! Like, I've been going to this festival every year since I was a teenager and it's always such a magical experience 😊. And can we talk about the lineup? The Crane Wives are one of my fave indie rock bands ever 🎸 and Amos Lee is like, my ultimate singer-songwriter crush ❀️. Dawes too, they're like, so underrated 🀣. I'm super stoked to see Nat Timmerman perform as Rabbitology, he's such a talented artist 🎢. I've already got my tickets for the whole weekend and I'm counting down the days until Jan 30 πŸ’₯πŸŽ‰

aww man, festivals always seem so much fun, but did you see that the headlining artist is only announced like a month in advance 🀯? it's like they're trying to keep the excitement under wraps or something. and what's up with the price range tho? $56.60 for a tix is basically affordable, but $281.50?! that's just crazy πŸ€‘ anyway, i guess some people might say it's a good thing the festival is listening to its community and making changes, but idk if it's really gonna make it more "dynamic" or not... maybe they should've asked me first πŸ˜’

idk why they changed it, i mean the festival has been doing the same thing for like ever... but then again, its great that they're listening to their audience and making changes πŸ€”πŸŽ΅. so now there's gonna be a headliner on friday instead of just having a bunch of smaller acts. sounds cool, not sure if i'd wanna go see amos lee though 😐. are they still gonna have all the other folk and roots vibes that we love? and whats up with rabbitology being on the bill? is nat timmerman some kinda big deal or what? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Man, I'm all about this vibe they're going for. You know, like how we've been conditioned to expect this traditional folk festival format, but now they're shaking things up and giving it a fresh spin 🀯. It's like, what if the whole point of a music festival isn't just about the music itself, but about creating an experience that leaves you feeling something more than just nostalgia or familiarity? By switching up the format, I think they're tapping into that desire for something new and exciting πŸ’₯.

And let's be real, who doesn't love a good surprise every now and then? It's like, we get so caught up in our routines and daily lives that sometimes we forget to shake things up ourselves 🌱. So yeah, I'm all about this bold move by the Ann Arbor Folk Festival crew – it's gonna be lit! πŸ”₯

Man, I'm so down for this new vibe they're bringing to the Ann Arbor Folk Fest 🀘. No more two-night, same-old-same-old folk fest for me! I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved those nights out but it's been a while since I've had something new to look forward to. And hey, if the crowd is asking for it, who am I to argue? A headlining artist on Friday night sounds like an awesome way to kick off the fest 🎸. Plus, having a local U of M student opening up for some big names is a great way to give back to the community. Only thing I'm worried about is that they might mess it up πŸ˜…...

Another festival trying to spice things up by throwing out tradition πŸ€”. Like, what's wrong with a classic format? Now it's gonna feel all over the place... 🎢

And great, just what we need more overpriced tickets πŸ€‘ - $281.50?! Are you kidding me?! You can buy a decent record for that price and still have change πŸ’Έ.

I mean, I guess some people might appreciate the "dynamic" experience 😐 but personally, I'm good with my usual folk fest vibes 🌿.

omg, i dont get why they changed the format πŸ€”... werent we all used to having those two nights of folk acts? now its gonna feel like 2 different events instead of one big festival vibe πŸŽ‰. plus, isnt thursday night usually when they have the smaller venue shows? whats the point of mixing it up if its just gonna feel disjointed?

so they're making changes to the festival, which is cool i think its always good to listen to what people want πŸ€”...i mean who doesn't love a headlining act right from the start? anyway, gonna have some awesome acts like Amos Lee and Dawes on saturday...also Nat Timmerman as rabbitology is pretty interesting, not sure if im down for that but hey its different!

I'm so stoked about this new direction the Ann Arbor Folk Festival is taking 🀩! Changing things up to make it more dynamic and engaging for attendees is genius πŸ’‘. I mean, who doesn't love a surprise headliner? It's like they're giving us a little present on Friday night 🎁. And the lineup looks amazing too - Amos Lee, Dawes, and Ryan Montbleau are always killing it on stage 🀘. Plus, having Nat Timmerman as Rabbitology is a great way to bring in some local talent 🌟. I'm already counting down the days until January 30...
