1 dead, 1 seriously hurt in Calumet Heights shooting

A shooting in Calumet Heights left a 31-year-old man dead and a 37-year-old woman fighting for her life, with authorities revealing she sustained serious injuries to her thigh and back.

The violence unfolded early Thursday morning, when the woman was standing in her backyard around 2:40 a.m. at an address on South Merrill Avenue. As she heard gunfire, she felt pain and realized she had been shot. Paramedics from the fire department responded quickly, treating the woman before transporting her to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Tragically, another victim was discovered by police at a nearby location in the 9100 block of South Merrill Avenue - a man who succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Despite an investigation into the incident, no arrests have been made so far, and authorities are continuing their inquiry under the guidance of Area 2 detectives.

Ugh, this is just so sad πŸ€•... a woman fighting for her life after getting shot in her own backyard? It's just not right πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. And now another person has lost their life? My heart goes out to the family of the man who died πŸ’”.

It's just crazy that no one is arrested yet and authorities are still investigating πŸ€”. I hope they find some leads soon, but in the meantime, my thoughts are with the woman who's fighting for her life ❀️. We need to make sure our communities feel safe and protected 😊. Let's all take a moment to think about what we can do to help prevent situations like this from happening again πŸ’‘.

Ugh, another senseless shooting in Chicago πŸ€•... I mean, can't they even keep themselves safe? A 37-year-old woman fighting for her life over a backyard gunshot injury is just crazy. And what's with the lack of arrests so far? Are the cops really doing anything to catch the person responsible? It's like they're just waiting for more people to get hurt before taking action πŸ™„. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but come on, something gotta change. The city's already got enough issues, we don't need more senseless violence πŸ’”...

😱 just heard about this horrific shooting in Calumet Heights... can't believe 2 people lost their lives πŸ’”πŸ‘Š it's crazy how senseless violence can happen anywhere, anytime. The police are doing everything they can to investigate and find the perpetrators πŸš”πŸ’‘, but my heart goes out to the families of the victims, especially that poor woman who's still fighting for her life right now πŸ˜©πŸ’•. The fact that she sustained serious injuries just from standing in her own backyard is just heartbreaking... hope she gets the best medical care possible and recovers soon πŸ™πŸŒž

man, this is just so senseless πŸ€•...a young woman's life is literally being fought for right now because of some senseless violence...the fact that two innocent people lost their lives and another is still struggling to survive is just heartbreaking πŸ’”...i dont know what's going on in this world anymore, where can we even turn when it seems like things are getting out of hand? 🀯 the cops are doing their thing but i'm sure they're gonna need a lot more support from the community if they wanna crack this case...we need to come together as one people and find a way to make our cities safer for everyone, not just those who can afford it πŸ’ͺ

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this πŸ€•. Gun violence is getting out of control in Chicago, and it's heartbreaking πŸ˜”. The fact that a 37-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being shot in her own backyard is just devastating 😱. And now we know another victim was found on the same block, which means the shooter must have walked away without facing any consequences 🚫.

According to my knowledge, Chicago has seen over 600 homicides so far this year, which is a staggering number considering its population πŸ“Š. The data shows that most victims are between 20 and 40 years old, and often it's a result of gang-related violence or domestic disputes πŸ”’.

I'm seeing stats on social media saying the city has a high rate of gun ownership, but the question remains, why aren't we seeing more stringent laws implemented to control this issue? πŸ€”. The latest data from the Giffords Law Center suggests that only 16% of Americans support stricter gun laws, which is concerning 🚫.

The FBI reported a total of 39,659 firearm-related deaths in 2022, with Chicago accounting for around 5% of those cases πŸ’₯. It's clear we need to take action and work towards creating safer communities 🌈.

OMG 🚨 you guys need to know about this... I've got some behind-the-scenes info that's gonna blow your mind... apparently there were multiple shots fired from a distance, like someone was trying to mow down innocent people in that neighborhood... and the thing is, the police aren't sharing all they know about the investigation 🀐 Area 2 detectives are being super tight-lipped about potential suspects or motives... it's like they're hiding something? I'm not saying it's a cover-up or anything (but let's just say there's definitely some fishy business going on here)...

πŸ˜• This is such a senseless tragedy πŸ€•... I mean, can't we just live in peace? πŸ’” I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened - a woman standing in her own backyard and suddenly she's shot 🚫. It's like, what even is the point of all this violence? 🀯 And now another person has lost their life 😒... it's just so frustrating that no one is being held accountable yet πŸš”.

I'm not sure what's going on with our justice system, but it feels like these crimes are happening and then everyone just moves on πŸ’Ό. Like, how many more people need to get hurt before we do something about it? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ I wish the police could be more transparent about their investigation process too πŸ”... it's not fair to the victims or their families to keep them in the dark.

Ugh, this just makes me so angry 😀... how can one shooting leave two people fighting for their lives and no one being held accountable? 🚫😒

πŸ€• just heard about this shooting in Calumet Heights, it's so senseless... a mom with a kid, what kind of world is that? πŸŒŽπŸ˜” seriously though, how do we keep our communities safe when these things happen? I'm all for the police doing their job and getting to the bottom of this, but it feels like it takes forever sometimes. 200+ shootings in Chicago since the beginning of the year already... something's gotta change, you feel me? 🀝🌟

😞🚨 just heard about this shooting in Calumet Heights and I'm still trying to process it... my thoughts are with the woman who's still fighting for her life 🀞. Can't even imagine what she's going through right now πŸ˜•. It's just so senseless πŸ’”. And what really gets me is that despite a quick response from paramedics, the police are still searching for answers πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ. No arrests yet? That's just not okay... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that justice will be served soon πŸ’«. Can we please just talk about something else for once? Like did you guys see those new AirPods that just dropped? πŸ”₯
