Body of homeless woman found in trash bag in East Harlem likely died from overdose, NYPD says.

A 35-year-old woman, identified as Bonnie Schulman-Rice, was discovered wrapped in a black plastic bag on the sidewalk near Park Avenue and East 124th Street in East Harlem. According to authorities, her body showed no visible signs of trauma, but police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Schulman-Rice had been living without a fixed address, but there is evidence that she had an address at West 130th Street and Fifth Avenue from 2018. She was reported to have ties to family members on Long Island, but their comments about her passing remain scarce due to the emotional nature of the situation.

As police continued to probe into her death, a passerby alerted MTA authorities who then notified NYPD officers around 6:30 pm on Monday. The investigation is ongoing with no immediate arrests made so far.

Details surrounding Schulman-Rice's final hours are still being gathered by detectives as they seek to determine how she ended up in the trash bag where her body was found, and whether foul play was involved.
